Surely this project is the recommissioning of a large luxury home that’s fallen into disrepair, so won’t work for either genre of show?

I saw you were uncomfortable with the post earlier which was interpreted as critique, but do you have a project plan, one which takes into account interdependency of each element of what you plan to do?

As a finishing post for today - this new thread has only been live for a day and it's 5 pages already, I guess I am public enemy number 1 for poor old Jim, who as I understand it has to read everything as owner and moderator...

I've been power washing the front concrete for 2 days, it was under an inch of slime. I will finish tomorrow and offer up 'the test' for you all to judge.

'The test' is influenced by what my old man (who served in merchant navy during WW2) once told me in answer to a question about how to know a person - and what I subsequently found is quite a well known phrase. "you can tell who a man wants to be by the car that he drives. You can tell who he actually is by the house that he lives in"

It's a thing that's served me well over the years when assessing folk I've encountered on the journey.

I wasn’t suggesting Dawsey was going to use an antiquated methodology such as this… 😱

However, if your jet washing the concrete, when the Mrs wants to get the hell out of the Motorhome and into the house, it’s good to have a plan your following.. 🤪🙃

To be clear. It's a joke. I am not a celebrity and want precisely zero to do with any celebrity or anyone or any organisation to do with any of them. Please stop suggesting we make contact with 'escape to whatever' or 'new life in blah'

I've lost count of the number of times I've been told to get 'escape to country' or 'dixk and angel' or 'my wonderful new life in france blah' involved.

It's all just bullshit. Sorry to urinate a big fat dish of reality on anyone's beliefs. Filmed, edited, market read each one. Edited again, then presented to tell a story the audience might like. Just like all else on TV. Oh Please!.

We do not watch any sort of reality TV. It's clearly absolute nonsense. Why folk believe any of it is just beyond us.

I worked in large scale industrial asset management for a long time. I can sniff BS management speak 'or training to grad trainees who know sweet FA about life' an absolute mile away. Give me Chaser and that digger any day of the week. I'm going to look at that thing.
 
I really like the stuff Ben Fogle does, I find it very entertaining.

Totally agree. Everyone has their strengths and I hope i'm not so bad at picking it up. I'm going to see Chasers JCB soon as i can, this week if poss.

Despite him being a total disbelieving cynical PITA a lot of the time for me, this was a top tip. Redemption !

I don't mean to poke fun, but I've dealt with dozens of project managers over the years and the language (like H&S language, or HR language, or legal language) is fascinating. Not designed to be impenetrable to the 'outsider' but it ends up being the same nonetheless.

HR = admin. Pure and simple. Should not exist as a board reporting function.
H&S = responsibility of a good manager who understands UK law and isn't afraid of the regulator (the UK HSE). ie vey few. Should not exist as a board report function.

Legal = only required for high end deals
Stakeholder management = repository for old contractors nobody knows what to do with but is too afraid to let go.

DEI - yes we had to ensure black and transsexual faces were among offshore wind turbine maintenance staff in Barrow, probably the most white and straight town in the whole of the UK. Nobody there even admits to being gay.

Again, fur bucks sake or Oh Please!, or as Jim's bots will translate - oh dear.

This is why I took early retirement. When I started my career the chief engineer had a bottle of scotch in his cupboard

Neither me nor Bea resent nor judge anyone and each to their own. Power of pink pound and all that, it's great.

But dont ever tell us what to think

Screw the modern world

It's why a moron like trump got elected - the European politicians need to see that and quickly....

I've no idea if Jim reads everything, but I very much doubt it.

We've had one or two offers of help already, it's very much appreciated. To be honest I'm quite looking forward to rolling my sleeves up once again, it's been decades since I did proper manual labour. Just a couple of months back I was staring down the barrel of having to go back to corporate type work, the 2hr London commute, suited n booted etc, after thinking I'd escaped it and managed to sort of 'retire' at just past 50 yrs.
