Visited a small site in last weekend. Site has approx 50 pitches and some lodges and pods. Got chatting to the owner and apparently his electricity bill last year was £37,000 alone, then you have to add water, waste, wages, upkeep etc and then we wonder why prices are increasing as much as they do.

Some don't go on sites JUST to get ehu. Some sites offer a lot more. Of course one has to pay.

We do not use EHU, toilets, showers, have no kids or pets, can find our own choice of bars and restaurants, so what do these sites offer?

Not many seem to guarantee a good view compared with what we find most times in the Pyrenees, Alps, Italy and Greece(mostly right at the beach alone)

I was wondering about the people who spend day's, weeks and even months "on the road" using lay by's, aires, car parks, waste land etc.
Crap in a bag or in the woods I think🤢🤢 I think or put cassettes in a bag and go into shop toilets to empty.
If it came to that my van would be gone! Afraid I like things simple when I’m away so it’s mostly sites, although we can go a few weeks without having to empty our black waste tank I still like to get set up and not have to worry when I’m away about some dummy driving into or stealing it. Mostly Stelplatz for one night when going to get somewhere quickly.

Loads for those that use EHU, toilets, showers, have kids and pets!

So one assumes that you don't use campsites? so accept that they have facilities that you don't need, and as the cost includes things you don't need, its for you to avoid such places, not assume that they should change their raison d'être IE Facilities!

I think we di

I think we did 5 aires on our last Euro tour. 3 had no facilities, 2 did have an Elsan and water.
Didn't bother us as we would not stay on a aire for more than 1 night. We would make sure we were on a site the next night.

Two Aires out of five should have been sufficient.

We did two 20 week tours last year. One was Germany and France so no problem there. Then Italy, Greece. Our two cassettes lasted till just before ferry to Greece, so to do all services we stopped at a site(old filling station), because it has a good taverna and even with the €10 site fee it was cheap. A week across the Peloponnese to next ferry to an island where we know of a sewage chamber by the road, so that was OK for 4 weeks. Similar going back.

A lot of filling stations have outside toilets, ask before filling up or move to next.

We have never dumped anywhere other than a proper toilet/sewer.

As been mentioned prior, it's a good job we are all different.
We look for sites that maybe has a resturant/bar. As for views, again on our last trip for eg we stayed on so many sites with spectacular views. Lauterbrunnan. For heavens sakes we even stayed by The Moselle.(y)
And, we prefer ehu.
And convenience

You correctly assume we do not use campsites, so why do you think I might want to change their raison d'etre? Campsites can do what they want since we do not go there.

I was just asking bobnick about the extra facilities he referred to in post #58 might be.

As we all know all sites are different.
Some sites have more facilities than others, like pools, small shops, cafes, golf course (no i don't either). Space between the vans, water on pitch, grey waste on pitch. Food vans, and more.
We look we choose.

I stand corrected, withdraw my post and apologise 😳

That’s fine and your view. If you can afford to fit 460ah of lithium, go for it, I can’t afford to.

Many of us do this MH stuff on very tight budgets, so have to rely on EHU for more than a few days away.
You're in the majority. Motorhoming enthusiasts are not the average holidaymaker. Even as the CMC attempt to cater for those using motorhomes they cater for the majority who, motorhomers or caravanners, use their vehicles mostly as supplied and who mostly stay on the site for a week at a time. I get tremendous satisfaction from making my motorhome as self-sufficient as I can as do many others on this forum because I enjoy working on it. But it definitely isn't something that’s necessary in order to enjoy a motorhome holiday.
