Cost of running Alde heating comparison Gas or Electric

That's what I thought, but then I thought to chill there has to be heat somewhere else and then with inefficiency of the chilling process there must be a net heating effect, but marginal.
The ones I have used chilled the air going through them. The air needed to be warmed by something else, either a heater or sunlight.

Can it cool the air without creating heat somewhere else? I would suggest not, the cooling requires an evaporator and a condenser if it runs on a stand refrigeration cycle.

I guess like a refrigerator the heat extracted has to be dispersed but unlike a refrigerator it is not insulated so the cooled air and extracted heat between them are unlikely to make a meaningful contribution to the ambient temperature.

Yes, it takes air in the back, through a hepa filter if fitted, and blows the air out of the top which is warmer than what was drawn in.

Perhaps I am wrong and some models do warm the air before blowing it across the cooled condenser.

There are 2 types, desiccant and compressor.

Campers on site right now are using an average of £12.30 a day on a 10 amp hookup

They're all huddled up under electric blankets I should think! 🥶❄️

So you’re not making a great deal of profit Jim!

No not during this cold snap, not making anything. but then in summer they use very little, swings and roundabouts. You can understand why more sites will be closing during winter though. Imagine if I was on commercial leccy. 😲

This is why the club sites don't want people to be able to opt of of paying for electric in the summer and then use more than they pay for in the winter.

Ok guys got some sort of update for you I switched to Lpg on Friday morning with heating set @ 9.5 degrees this morning Wednesday the gas has changed over to the other 11kg bottle, so five full days for 22ltrs of Lpg =£17.60 @ 80p per ltr so quite pleased with that result our van is 8.25 mtrs 👍

Interesting as it gives me a rough cost on what it's going to cost me when we get back in January. That's a lot cheaper than electric thats for sure. out of interest did you get notification it had changed over or was it that you have been checking?
I have a mopeka fitted but the MH needs to be level for this to work which on the side of our house is only possible with the E&P deployed on manual mode and blocks.

I have been keeping an eye on the Mopeka app so reasonably accurate.as the van is on our drive.

So on a metered site, are you best using gas for the fridge? How KWh will a three way fridge freezer use in Spain in ‘winter’ conditions do we think?
3 - 3.5Kw a day Harvey, so not leaving a lot out of your 4Kw allowance for other electrical needs. Once I sussed that out, I reverted to gas for the F/F.

Very similar gas consumption as I found Steve, albeit higher temperatures.

Steve, I can't comment on electricity use on the MH, but during the pandemic when I had Covid and was self isolating in the MH, I went through a 6Kg cylinder of propane in 2.5 days. The Alde 3000 heating was on 24/7.

We went through 1 x 11Kg cylinder in 4 x days, when in the Lake District recently.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Looks like you saved a chunk of money. 22x7.08=155.76 kWh at an electricity price of 34p per kWh would have cost you £52.95.

Yes Jock possibly more usage due to low🥶 ambient outside temperatures 👍

Now who has a diesel heater to do a comparison 🤣🤣
155.76kWh divide by 10.96kWh per litre = 14.21 litres. Diesel At £1.72 x 14.21 = £24.42 which is more than the £17.60 spent on gas. Gas is still the winner. 😀
