Corona Virus, Great Escape. Med. Spain to Green Spain

Tomorrow night's parking (if I have my say) is here ...

View attachment 406852

Anyone been there?

Again, the reviews say narrow road, but narrow to some is a motorway to us!!!

???? Anyone ????
Looks like a good place. There are a couple of miradors on the way in for photos if there is room to park. :)

you can get spanish type 'ordanance survey' maps as I have a few for the area around here. I got them from a book shop in Lorca who had a large selection but all in a large drawer? very odd. You had to know they sold them . :giggle: I'm sure they do them for all areas of spain but might well have to beordered. I will look them out to see who makes them/supplier is tomorrow.

Years ago we were sent to a shop in Lorca and maps were in a drawer. I wonder if it's the same shop (and the same maps)?!

IGN Maps?

The Jumars have a pass out. After a very strict lockdown in our apartment in the Murcia region, we slowly had a relaxation of the rules and, eventually, permission to travel.

After a few hiccoughs. Failed leisure battery and failed delivery of a new one, amongst a few other niggles, we made our arrangements, and left, yesterday.

A mere 500 km or so got us to a motorhome parking north west of Madrid, and in a village in the back of beyond, village to nowhere, but they've put in an emptying facility and parking for at least 12 motorhomes, with space for more.

We had a very quiet night, but cooold, after the Murcian temperatures. Duvets were pulled on sometime during the night.

This morning we continued our journey north west and have now arrived here to start the holiday proper.

A horrendous journey along the Spanish motorways

brought us to our overnight, and tomorrow's overnight also. On a lake with canoeing lessons and an airfield, so far we're "Billy no Mates" €6 a night with leccy, it would be sad not to pay.

Tomorrow our bikes are coming out and we're exploring the local area.

During the next few days or do we'll be "doing" the coast 😉

Where is this?

It looks beautiful. I'm interested in this wikilok you mention. We use trailforks and strava to look for rides but will check this out. Currently in France but we will be travelling through Spain for a few months from September. I hope we'll find some of these amazing spots. Is there a good online resource for finding footpaths in Spain? At home i subscribe to OS maps and have all of the uk on my phone. So handy for finding walks wherever you are.

Wikiloc CAN be useful, but like all public apps, it's only as good as its contributors! We use it to get an idea of routes. Hundreds of entries means a good area for paths and tracks and lots of outdoor activity.

I've just downloaded Maps.me as recommended by Lenny HB I'll be giving it another try.

We are heading up to the Cabo Ortegal to see whether it is a narrow road, but we've detoured down to the parking Area de Fornos, for coffee. Parking (but NOT camping behaviour), is allowed 👍

We expect it to get busy with cars later so we either stay put or leave soon to drive up the hill.

We were hoping Martin could fish here, but it's a bathing beach.

We're Billy no Mates now at the Lighthouse, the view of which is from my side window. Photos have been taken, but we're back in an internet black hole again.

My phone is charging, and if I walk down towards the lighthouse with it later, I might get a better signal to send some piccies.

This post might not even send 😥

We need to find out where, and if, the quarantine is still in place in the Lugo coastal region. That determines our onward trip from here.

Anyone know the position, or know of any sites we can search to find out?

Do you eat what Martin catches?

Hmmm. Sooo interesting sitting here people watching.

People putting their kids on the wall around the lighthouse (for a photo). Couples (very non athletic) climbing onto the wall and walking around (for a photo). Happily, so far, no accidents have been made in the taking of said photos 🙄. It's easy to see how "accidents" happen.

When I post the photos you'll see the wall, and the drop!!

Looks like this is the quarantined area,

We've decided to move back down to the town, where we have

Fishing possibilities
Internet that works quickly

So that's where we are now. We were here ...

But now we're behind a college in town!! Official motorhome parking though and we'll not see much of the "view" once we're asleep.

Martin's happy. He's off out with his fishing rod and some of our King Prawns!!

If you are still wanting to see the playa de las catedrales you will need to do a bit of a detour round the lockdown area, I got water at Mondonedo aire. It's a free aire but I didn't care for the town so drove out to the coast along from the cathedrals, found a quiet parking ( field type ) at Benquerencia and walked along to the playa. Glad I did as the parking at the Cathedrals was very busy, can give you a screenshot and close enough co-ordinates if you want to go there.

That was (is) the plan. So yes please 👍

Thanks bigtree

It's in the memory bank.

We've decided we were heading east (to heat) too soon, too quickly. Still not knowing, exactly, what we had to miss, and loathe to miss bits that weren't necessary, we decided to go back to the northern part of the Fragas do Eume, before we braved the OOB 😨.

We've parked up at the visitor centre for the Park. The land is owned by the local hotel/restaurant, who charge €5 for 24 hours. No facilities, but lots of useful information and leaflets provided.

We did an 8km walking route that started directly from here. It was lovely (especially if you have good knees to walk downhill for 40 minutes to visit the (already seen) Monestary and then head back uphill. We've decided that uphill (painfree) walking is beneficial for Martin to build up his thigh muscles, so didn't complain about that bit.

Some photos. As usual ...

Water bottles, cut to catch the wind, to keep the birds off the strawberries 😊.

A LB(bit of pink)J singing in the Bush whilst Martin was hunting a splinter in his shoe/sock. Juvenile Chaffinch??

The old "modernised" wash house.

The church. And a natural font.

The Monestary has already "been done" but the old mill ruins are still seen on the River.

DSCN3609_1.JPG

We donned masks (cos everyone else was) to walk through the Monestary buildings, then started the climb back.

Water supply?

And self explanatory.

On the small river, the same one as the mill for the Monastery.

Nor a chaffinch, the bill is wrong shape. No idea at the moment what it is though! Some sort of warbler perhaps? 🤔

Okay. We've sorted the OOB area in Galicia. There is no longer one 😊. Martin popped into the Guardia Civil station in Ortigueira (handily positioned next to the motorhome service point 👍) and the three officers there all confirmed that the quarantined areas are now no longer.

We've driven a few kilometres further up the coast to a small port with parking (and other motorhomes!!). It's at O Porto de Espasante.

Here.

It reminds us of Norway!!!

Fishing is allowed. I think there's a small headland with mirador I can explore and there's a fish restaurant at the end of the parking where we're going to have lunch. (That's NOT like Norway 😂).

Oh well GTB voted for, or not. Here it is.

We first had a wander around the village to see if we found anywhere else we fancied eating. Nothing took our fancy more than the place on the port, and that was within a good staggering distance (if needed. Not, as it transpired) back to the motorhome.

First some photos of the "other" beaches. We are on a very small headland (will be explored later) so there are beaches on all aspects.

Our van, in the middle, looks OK on top!

We found the biggest fig trees we've ever seen.

GTB .... next 👍

I'll say now. This wasn't a "menu del dia" 👍👍👍.

We had two beers to start!

Then we chose ...

Revuelto de setas y gambas
(Scrambled eggs with mushrooms and prawns)
Forgot to take the photo when it arrived, but my portion.
DSCN3634.JPG

And ...

Chipirones encebollados con patata fritas
(Baby squid with chips)
DSCN3633.JPG

And

Zamburiñas "al la Trapela"
(Clams in a spicy oil)
DSCN3637.JPG

We teamed these with a chilled bottle of Galician "White"

With a view of the port and motorhomes in the background😊😊

GTB???

P.s. we have four baby squid in a doggy bag for tomorrow's pasta meal 😂😂
