Corona Virus, Great Escape. Med. Spain to Green Spain

May follow in your footsteps very soon. Thought we would stick it out in Murcia but not sure we can stand it!

It was very misty this morning but the sun has come through now and it's a lovely 22° ish forecast for today.

We're going exploring on the bikes soon. Hopefully I'll get some nice photos to show the area off!!!

So far, so good. No lockdown here 🤞🤞🤞

Our first exploration of the area.

First, stretching ...

These photos were taken at a recreation area. No-one there but us and on a sunny Sunday in July! We're hoping that the coast will be fairly quiet as well.

Note the ample parking for motorhomes and easy access to launch a kayak 👍👍

It's just around the corner from where we are staying.

The building in the first photo is a bar, but all closed up at the moment 😥

We're now parked (alone at the moment) in a sheltered spot at Fisterra (Finisterre). We've had a walk, visited the lighthouse, chased all the other motorhomes off and are now chilling before lunch/dinner.

The internet isn't good (can't have everything all the time) but I'll try a few photos.

We're on the right, but now there's no-one on the left 😁

Looking to the lighthouse.

Other photos are on my camera. I'll post them some other time.

I´m sure we´ve been there - did you pass a sloping car park on the right to get to where you are now? That´s as far as we got, and didn´t fancy staying there because of the slope.

Yes. A sloping carpark both sides of a road. There were more motorhomes parked up there than down here earlier. Windier up there as well!!

My photos will have to wait until I can tether them to Martin's phone.

We now have two companions.

Okay. We're now at Muxia with internet signals strong enough to post photos.

Yesterdays walk. We made it up from a Wikiloc route and Google maps. It took us to the top of the nearest hill, with an archaeological site of a ruined Ermita.

We DID get neighbours but it was a quiet night, except for the rattling and banging of the striped warning board on the back of our van, only inches from my head. That will be removed, or tightened!!

And so to today. We drove back and through Cee to go to a Mercadona. I've always bought Garlic and Parsley stock cubes from there, for many years. In my last Mercadona shop in Mazarron they didn't have them. They didn't have them in Cee today either 😥😥. Anyway they had Galician beers 👍.

We continued driving towards Muxia, but stopped off en route to have coffee and croissants bought in Mercadona €0.29 each!!! Martin found a short walk we could do which took us down to a beach. Ample parking for motorhomes, and the first none Spanish registered one (Dutch). Anyway its here.

There were some nice new fennel plants growing and also some mint. So we've got both to add to salad tonight.

There are also some nice flowers.

Honeysuckle, nastursions, and the other orange ones which I know but can't remember, and fruit? that looks like Kiwis?

We then drove through Muxia to get to the Ermita and lighthouse. Pulled our stomachs in going through the town when we were detoured by a small market. We pulled into a lovely parking spot and had a photo stroll, a spot of lunch and Martin took his fishing rod to wet it in the sea.

As pleasant as the parking was at the Ermita, the fish didn't bite and the sea was so noisy 😥 so we've dropped down to the town, near the marina. Not at all scenic but the blinds are shut to keep the van cool anyway. I'll be off out with my camera later.

We stayed there a few years ago when the so called celebs walked the Camino and I had the misfortune to meet them. I was feeding a big green lizard there too.

Martin went along the harbour wall to have a go at fishing. We spoke to two locals who showed us photos of their catch over the last few days. Tomorrow's intended spot is a good place for fishing, allegedly! It's good for mountain biking also, so we should have another exceptional day.

I photo'd the boats in the harbour and I then sat on a rock watching the waves and ... dolphins 🙂🙂

No good photos but proof positive if required.

Apologies, I haven't been following this thread very well - had a ceiling to paint.😀

You are not too far from an interesting area. The English Cemetery is worth a visit and you could overnight there. The track is rough but doable I think although we did it in a much smaller van. You could cycles there instead of course.

Thanks for this. We're cycling around the coast tomorrow so we'll try to visit the cemetery.

Looking forward to another day of exploring.

Today we drove to Camariñas. 3.5km from our Dolphin spotting rock but over 20km by road. We had a Wikiloc ride planned, that would take in the English Cemetery John DBK suggested we visit. The ride started well, the scenery was stunning and we spent more time stopping to take photos than riding ... until the wind hit us. The last time I biked in such a strong wind must have been cycle camping on Islay in the Inner Hebrides, long before we were motorhomers. So grateful for heavy e-bikes!

Some motorhomers had braved the wind and bumpy track. We saw two Spanish, one Polish and one German registered.

We managed to ride down to the cemetery (slowly because of the side wind). Some youngsters on traditional bikes walked down!!!

DSCN3409.JPG

We did cut it short towards the end and rode the roads instead. We didn't want to use too much battery power fighting the wind.

We're now at the small village of Arou (slightly more sheltered). We couldn't get through the streets due to roadworks, parked cars and overhanging balconies, but a local directed Martin to this spot, where we're happy for a night.

And our view.
DSCN3413.JPG

We had a bit of excitement earlier (well the horse that escaped it's paddock did). It legged it just as its owner got this close. We don't know if it's back yet 🤔

We're still limping along with our duff leisure battery. It's OK whilst the sun is shining but we don't expect it to stay like this for the whole trip away. It was supposed to be available for collection from 7 July at an industrial park at Ferrol, but so far we've heard zilch. Martin has emailed them but ...

We are hoping to go to a private camperstop in the Fragas de Eume natural park for three or four days but would like to get the battery beforehand, although leccy is available there.

Anyone "done" Fragas de Eume??

We tried to find the coastal road/track from Camariñas but gave up - I was looking for something a bit wider than that! But you would have seen the much better track going up the hill after the cemetery. This was the way we eventually approached it. :)

Haven't been to Fragas de Eume - but it looks intriguing.

Lovely photos, your not missing much back in Murcia. Hot, humid and windy this afternoon. Sat indoors under the air con now.

I'm so glad we've got away. Firstly to escape the heat and, secondly, to see the wonderful corner of Spain we're in now.

We're not having any problems with the virus. People are wearing masks on the busier streets (nowhere has been that busy though) and masks and hand sanitiser was compulsory in Mercadona (gloves were available but not compulsory). We've not been anywhere big yet though and won't be going to A Coruña.
