Continental Vans Banned?

I think it's because of the travellers at one time they wouldn't let hobby or tabbart caravans on as it was travellers that had them, but now they use motorhomes aswell, but you are like sardines in a tin on that site
Many are Autotrails now so maybe ban them too. Seems an odd thing to ban Continental MH.

We have a Rollerteam so wouldn’t be welcomed ( if it’s true) and there are lots of us around

nearly ten years ago one of my mates in a lhd van was asked to pitch nose in at hendra in newquay so his habitation door faced the same as all the others....he was told it was ensure fire reg spacing for units...ie car/caravan/awning-car/caravan/awning rather than car/caravan/awning-awning/caravan/car
i went to lots of sites, in my lhd, that gave you instructions on where/how to put your van on the pitch but i never wound the awning out so i could park in the middle of the plot
we always wondered what they would do with a van that has a rear door or twin sliding doors ?

banning them seems a little ott

Has anyone on here actually checked with home farm . Hate to think we are destroying any réputation they may have without fact. . Certainly at Warren farm no such rule is applied.

Isn't there a Chausson mh with 2 hab doors
1 either side.
That would really confuse them.
I might go here for a weekend and drive into the pitch instead of reversing.
Technically hab door is still on the passenger side.

I know I know what a rebel

Some sites do turn business away if the vehicle doesn’t ‘fit’.

I was browsing search for sites the other day and came across one (Ettie’s Field) which actually listed which vehicles would be allowed to stay... the unit had to be ‘cool’. You were advised to phone before booking if in any doubt as to whether you would be classed as cool enough to grace their site.

Pretentious twats!

A quick phone call confirmed their licence only allows motorhomes to be reversed onto pitches to allow quick exit in an emergency so they cannot accept continental motorhomes with hab door on the drivers side.

So why do they not put Continentals in one line and UK ones in another.. or is that too easy ?
Is their loss though, and I wouldn't go there anyhow as too packed in.

Thought I would have a wee look

Well it is true.

When booking you have to choose between 3 options, Caravan (UK spec), Trailer tent or Motorhome (UK spec). I phoned them to ask what that meant and they told me that my motorhome with its hab door on the right is classed as "continental" and they do not take "continental" motorhomes!

Words truly fail me .......................

Having said that it is the type of place that I would avoid like the plague anyway.

My Moby has 2 cab doors, hab door on RH side and 'Emergancy escape window' opposite the hab door...

From their "terms and conditions" generators from 9am to 6pm would stop me going straight away, even if I had stripped the paint off ours and polished the alloy;)

We do accept generators only on non electric pitches, between the hours of 9:00am - 6:00pm but we do reserve the right to ask you to turn the generator off.

- Our staff reserves the right to refuse white caravans, motorhomes and will ask guests to leave the site.As Ettie's Field doesn't accept these vehicles. There will be no refund offered if this becomes necessary.

.

You could always paint some hippy flowers on it and drape a few fairy lights around... you might just be acceptable! :D

I don't wish to intentionally throw the cat amongst the pigeons here but I quite like the idea of a site having a USP which attracts a specific audience.

I first came across the Ettie's Field site last year when I joined the UK Airstream Club and their punters seem to really enjoy the place and what it offers, including the fact that they'll never be surrounded by dozens of white Tupperware boxes.

If it works for them then good on em' as they seem to have a sizeable enough following to keep their business buoyant and unique.

Have to agree.

I'm sure there are loads of sites with a criteria for staying, that appeal to different life styles. Adult only? No dogs? Naturist?

Likewise, there are lots of sites that like everyone parked with the doors facing the same way. Guess there must be a market for this as well.

Personally I'd never choose to stay on this type of site. So I'm not their market. Actually, in a scrape and having the choice of this or the Naturist site, I'd have to seriously consider the weather :D

We turned up in our pilote Galaxy to a site in the Peak District and the first words of greetings were ‘your doors on the wrong side’ (ours has the drivers door on right and then hab door on left?!?!) we explained we had a door on both sides and was happy using either if it made that much difference ... that seemed to quieten him down ... very strange ...

It’s a lot closer to answering the question than any of the other responses.

Have you tried ringing them?

No, didn’t think so.

Ian
People have rang them and posted their response. What’s the slapping of the head thing for.?

We had similar trouble when we had a Hobby caravan years ago there were a few places that didn't like them probably due to assosciations with travellers. Just go somewhere else maybe another site will set up with the opposite requirement
