Cold weather is not the enemy

Love the winter living up here and being away in the van when it’s cold and snowing.

I read a lot of threads and talk to a lot of people who say its a shame its no longer summer and the season is over etc..

For me winter IS the season..... Starting now we have Halloween. Guy Fawlks Night. Christmas. New Years and snow covered hills. autumn leaves. Crisp mornings..

I think its the best time to be away in a Motorhome. Wrap up warm. stock the hot chocolate and enjoy the British countryside. Its stunning with a morning frost. We all have heaters and winter clothes. Summer most of us are missing AC to stay cool. Were better equipped as a nation to enjoy this end of the calendar.

No ,I'll give it a miss thanks.

To some extent I've specific and semi-exclusive summer and winter hobbies and interests and drift into and out of each as the seasons change.
I really don't cope well with short, cold and grey days. I'd much rather be snug in my village home with family and friends around than sitting on my own in a motorhome in a damp field from 6 p.m. onwards.

Its been grey and wet here for the last 6 days ....ive got nothing done bar walking dogs which then results in wet coats etc trying to dry them.

But today it cleared up around 12 bright sunshine even a little bit warm ....so ive been busy getting everything moved out the caravan and then giving a clean and winterizing it ...

When its dry and sunny i get so much done when its miserable i become lazy and almost depressed .

Ive never been a winter person but it seems to get worse each year ...roll on tomorrow and im off heading for sunnier climes.

I could not agree with you more, we really enjoy the cooler weather.
Even if it's chucking it down we can snuggle up with a film and a cuppa and the dogs at our feet.
You're so lucky in Scotland, you can do that all year round, except on 24th July (Summer) :giggler:

Is that your van or have you nicked the photo?
Not my van. More chance of photographing our van on the moon than being in that situation :giggler: Saying that we did have 8ft snowdrifts here with the Beast from the East a few years back before we got our van :Eeek:

You growing into a Southern softy ? 😆😆😆
The older i get the less tolerant i am of the cold ...last couple of weeks ive been suffering from stiff joints , sore back , sore feet ....i just like the warmer weather

Same here, ended buying some long socks and some Damart thermalactyl PJs and tops to keep the weather at bay. Works very well.

Just looked at that photo again, the snow is over 9ft deep around the van. There must have been the same amount on top of it :Eeek:

I don't mind it being cold, I m/h all year, BUT I find the old bones need the sun to get going, so, Sunny cold and bright, no problem.👍 Cold and wet 👎

Try running a roofing business in the winter. The phone never stops but the weather stops you working drives me around the twist. Fill in your planner for the week ahead and by 0830 Monday morning its all gone out the window. Need to retire then my only worry would be how long to stay away in the moho!
I’ve seen builders working on roofs in Canada 🇨🇦 I thinks it’s about -25 when they decide it’s a bit too cold to work outside.

The jury is out, we’ve struggled with over heated fridge/freezer now we are away mid November for a tester few nights. 🤞🏻🤞🏻

We love being away in winter, the MH feels cosy and everywhere is quite. I've just reserved a spot on the Aire in La Plagne for January

Pot and kettle come to mind
I've experienced a Welsh summer
Only difference from winter is the rain is warmer
Having spent most of my life in the West of Scotland and the last 19 here in Mid Wales I can assure you that this part of Wales gets very little rain in comparison. I've been wearing shorts here virtually every day since Easter. I could count on one hand the number of times I used to wear shorts in that same period back home. Saying that work mates can't understand why I wore a t-shirt all year round at work while they were wrapped up with layers and hats and gloves! Southern softies I'd say :giggler:

Everyone to their own are my thoughts, been there done that got the deckchair, I’ve camped all year round in caravans and Motorhomes and even once in a tent in snow, but for some of us, with advancing years comes widespread arthritis, and my idea of enjoying Motorhoming no longer includes sitting in the van on a wet weekend on wet grass no matter how much heating I’ve got, my season used to last 12 months of the year but those days are gone, it’s got to be hard standing during inclement weather and ehu which I rarely use, but would want to ensure fully charged batteries to run blown air, I used to love the sharp crisp mornings away in the van but not anymore, my joints just don’t do cold damp weather.

Naw, absolutely hate winter.

We do use our van all year but much more enjoyable in Summer and late sring/early autumn.

We were bodyboarding at Cullen Beach on the Moray Coast yesterday.
Pouring with rain and had the place to ourselves.👍

Not surprised you had the place to yourself, my days of surfing, windsurfing and bodyboarding in colder months are loonnnggg gone.

I love the cold , that dry cold winter we had a few years ago where it dropped to -20 I was out in that every day , not sure the dogs were so keen mind

What I dislike about Britain is rain , I'll go anywhere if it's cold, but not if it's raining

The clocks changing is the real downer that limits outdoor activity
I have got plenty of decent gear it's getting the motivation to get out that's the issue.
No problem when we get to below freezing its just the "Dreich" ( dull and or gloomy) stuff we get about know that's hard going.
Forecast for next few days looking ok though (y)
