Cold Caller on The Doorstep Asking to Buy Motorhome!

It's always for their dad 🤷‍♂️
Can they not come up with a better story...like the prince of Namibia needs it to carry his wealth to the uk for some lucky person to get 🤭
I'm on a main road, nearly all of us have cameras, and have had many knocks on the door and notes left on the van....I dont lose sleep over it, lifes too short for that 👍
Totally weird story from him. We are not on a main road, very off the beat and track really, so no his dad wouldn't have been past a few times that's bull. You wouldn't come here unless delivering or live here or in the immediate area. My van is out of sight unless you are on the actual drive, hers is covered but is visible from the road.

Unless they or someone else has been looking already there would be no way of knowing the setup at her house.

I've told her not to worry about it, getting that cover off quickly and without making a noise will give them a nosebleed, mine is blocked in with her car and needs to be shuffled back and forth about 15 times 👍

We had one come round the back of the house , and must have tried the back door , he was there when we got back , we had an alsation on a chain , it had let him get to the back door , but not leave , 2 hours he said he'ed been there , not a happy bunny ! :)

The story is all made up . They are pulling on the heart stings “ I am looking for a motorhome for my dad “
They drive around and find motorhomes on driveways . They make a note and then call at all the houses in the area . The offer to purchase is genuine but they are looking to pay well below the market value ! In some cases the motorhome is just sitting there and isn’t being used . Someone with cash there and then can sometimes be very tempting at the right time and some people probably do sell at a rock bottom price if they are desperate and need money . You can search on here and see many posts ( including mine ) from worried funsters who had the “ Irish door knock about the motorhome “ but to the best of my knowledge not one of these people have ever had a motorhome stolen after the knock at the door .
Like I said . Why would they target a 2006 Swift motorhome 😂

On the rare occasion we have had the knock on the door, they a very firm no from me.
We then bring our best alarm, which is Robert sleeping overnight with Gus.
Gus is as soft as butter, but he has a much bigger bark than you would expect and if they met Robert, I think they would think twice.
We wouldn't leave it to chance, we would look right pillocks if our old girl disappeared.

Happens all the time , I've lost count of the amount of times we've had folk at the door asking if campers are for sale and several have been Irish.

But nothing has ever happened after they've been told no. And that's been years now
Mind you didn't your driveway look like a Forecourt once 😄

Cheers🍻

Nobody has ever knocked on my door and asked if they can buy our van.............................oooo'ps it's not parked on our drive it's in a secure lock up, that's probably why  ;)

Mate had his stolen off his driveway last year.
He came downstairs and thought his kids had left the back door open, nope they had broken in took the keys moved his motor out of the way to get to his van and drove off.
Their dog never made a sound so they are very professional ☹️☹️

If he was planning on stealing it WHY WOULD HE KNOCK ON THE DOOR,,?.BUSBY..its a regular occurance.just hoping to buy it cheap.

I had a note put on car I once had, asking me to sell it, and to phone a number.

I didn't phone and within a week it was nicked. Never saw it again.

Totally agree with the security measures listed above. I'd also go for having an unfed leopard in the cab.

They’re not just looking for Motorhomes. ;)

In COVID lockdown we had nowhere to go so Two on Tour kindly said we could stay on his drive.
Whilst there he had someone turn up asking if he ‘would sell one of his Motorhomes’ as they could see his and ours!
Nothing came of it and Paul‘s place is high in security!

If he could'nt buy the van did he want to tarmac your drive as he had some left over from a job?

Because you’d be surprised how many people are (stupid/gullible/too friendly (Select one that doesn’t offend😉)

Within ten minutes the proud owner is sat in the camper with the visitor, with a mug of tea, biscuit’s singing like a canary about the mods and upgrades that have done, including the security precautions they’ve taken as “You can’t be too careful these days”

When one knocker-boy asked me if I wanted to sell my m/h I noticed another on the pavement with a fishing rod about 12' long. I thought it odd that there wasn't a reel or any tackle on it.
My neighbour said it was for reaching in an open house window to withdraw keys which people invariably leave in sight on a table, worktop or freezer.

No one would find my keys, i've got them hidden away in the third draw down of the desk in my study in an old cigar box...Oh wait...Damn!!
They'd never find mine. Most of the time even I can't remember where they are.

And your address is?……. :ROFLMAO:

Checked CCTV, they had already been earlier in the day while she was out. Had a little mooch about round the front before going. Got reg etc.

They came onto the road a different way that time but drove straight to the house so they obviously knew what the setup was beforehand. The conversation they had with my sister made it clear that they were already aware there was a new one on her drive plus hers so someone has been on her property and seen it or they have been told by someone. That is the unnerving bit because you're left wondering.

I know some people have said 'oh don't worry it happens or it's happened to us it's fine' but it's not fine when uninvited people to your home make you uninvited offers 🤷🏼‍♀️

Hopefully they were just trying it on and won't be seen again.

I make no apology for posting the photo below, as I have done on a number of threads. If it prompts anyone into increasing their security, then it’s been worth it.

I would add, that at the time of this incident my security was pretty good anyway….CCTV, Growler (with window stickers, neon lights, which frightened them off when they opened the door), steering wheel lock, windows and roof openers all marked with Vinchip markers…..plus other layers which I keep to myself.

Took them less than 2 minutes to overcome the Fiat locks, so I’ve now fitted deadlocks.

Having seen far too many victims of unwarranted ‘visitors’ having a nosey, distraction burglaries, rogue ‘tradesmen’ praying on the elderly, etc. I don’t give any cold callers of this kind the benefit of the doubt - and make sure they know it, and that I’ve clocked them and any vehicle that they’re travelling in. Even if it means having a wander after them (I live in a secluded cul-de-sac) I’ll let them see me recording the registration and if the scrote detector goes off I’ll ring it in to 101.

This might just be an Irish thing by the way as I'm currently touring in Ireland and I've just had the 2nd person come and ask me if I was selling my motorhome. Both claim to have just sold one
