Cirencester Park CMC site - new access road

Our MH is there in mid August so pls bash the worst of the rocks back with yours 👍🏻

Things are starting to happen .......

Excavations with a small digger began today. Some of the lay-bys are being extended, with their corners being lopped off to make access to them easier. The blind bend is being made gentler, but will still be pretty blind. A lot of the rocks have been pushed about 6 inches further back from the carriageway. This work is being done by the CMC’s contractors - presumably at the CMC’s cost.

Steady progress today with more corners lopped off and surfaces prepared for tarmac. Arrangements of wooden posts have appeared in a couple of lay-bys. Not sure they’re really necessary but at least they’re not rocks!

Andy - I nominate you to keep this thread updated after tomorrow, please. We are escaping on Friday morning and wild camping for a night rather than battle against the tide to get out on Silly Saturday. There will be 25 vans per hour arriving from 9am. I can see them queuing up along the top of the lane, and probably back out to the roundabout.

wild camp in one of the new lay-bys. ::bigsmile:

Ok, here is my final update:

The lopped off corners are now all prepared ready for the top layer of tarmac. Three of the lay-bys have been extended in this way while one of them remains in its original form, albeit with the rocks rather more embedded into the earth bank. The rocks either side of this lay-by are still pretty close to the carriageway.

On Silly Saturday it is planned to have a warden stationed at each end of the access road, armed with walkie-talkies, directing the flow of traffic. Good luck to all those who venture here!

Over to AndyPK

Well, up at Cirencester Park today - and, I’m happy to report, everything seems to be running ok! There are C&MC chaps at either end of the road with radios to allow traffic in/out; the alterations to the lay-bys etc., have made a big difference to the ‘feel’ of the approach road; there was no queue on the main road (despite the local council closing one lane for hedge trimming!!) so it’s a big ‘well-done’ to the C&MC for taking action and sorting-out what could have been a big problem! The site looks pretty full, with lots of happy campers everywhere!

All seems good to me. Staying here at the moment. I been in and out today, as long as outfits with car or caravan are entering and leaving at the correct arrival and departure times vehicles will be able to pass.

We went to the site today it was a bloody nightmare. We had cars and motorhomes behind us and we met about 20 cars coming the other way from the cricket club total gridlock lol 😂
