Choices for new van

Nice one, is the Knaus built well with no wood in the construction, gave you looked at the build quality construction of each brand and was that also influencing your final decision?
Yes we’d done some research before looking to save liking a van visually to find out it wasn’t the quality we wanted, the one we’ve went for has Aluminium skin which seems to be the way companies are going. After construction quality we looked at the quality of furniture and this is where a few let themselves down mainly the Euramobil we looked at although it was their bottom of the range.

We’ve decided on the Knaus Sun TI 650 Meg platinum range, really liked it and reviews are very good also being the platinum it’s quite good spec. Our choice wasn’t easy as loads of good vans out there, we got it down to the Malibu and the Knaus, few things swayed it for the Knaus. It has heavier chassis, auto box and bigger engine amongst other things.
Glad you've found a van to suit, looks good, hope the transaction goes smoothly. Which dealer did you goto in the end?

Thanks Neil, we’re going with Don Amott but if I’m honest we preferred the sales guy at SMC he just couldn’t match their deal. I said I’d give him a courtesy call this morning to let him know my decision so you never know ?

Had a look in one the same as yours while their and loved it unfortunately even after breaking into the piggy bank it was to much ??

Good choice Gerry lorger Knaus same group as MORELO so welcome to the club.

Thanks Andrew,

here's a brief review of the vans we viewed.
Malibu by Carthago very nice van and look good quality but the ones we viewed where the 130 engine with manual and chassis max to 3650kg unless you do some work
Knaus I'll have to say was top quality as we've bought one  The construction seems to be good quality and has the full heated double floor so ideal for Scottish winters, personally we thought the inside was the best quality we viewed.
Euramobil This was my favourite before viewing possibly as it was cheapest and I'm Scottish, the construction seemed good but in our opinion it really let it's self down with the interior fittings. It was their entry level so that could be the reason.
Hymer Exsis these looked good quality vans in this price bracket but just didn't grab us for some reason and we liked the level floor in the Knaus which these don't have. Looked at the Carado also and not a patch on the Exsis.
Laika look good on the surface but personally we don't think they're as good as they say, they are advertised as double floor but don't have one. When asked the salesman he said it was double floor until I quizzed him and he admitted it was double skin so totally different. They do look nice with some innovative touches so I see why folk buy them.
Burstner we like these but after doing some research a few owners aren't happy with the newer versions, we could have got a new one for several ££ less but wasn't for us.
Adria as we owned one before we thought we'd look again, like the Euramobil unless you go for the Sonic they seem to be cheap inside and no double floor, Also a lot of complaing on their FB page regarding quality with some having water running down the interior back wall.
Dethleffs we liked the pulse and espirit quality wise but noting really done it for us

These are just our personal opinions and we know nothing so don't buy a van on our say so and don't be offended if you own a van we don't like.

A fantatsic write-up!

Jim could do with a man like you in his new magazine operation.

Don't be shy, what's all that about. It can't be you congratulating him over the purchase of a new kayak.

Go on Gerry, spill the beans
I'm sure all will be revealed in good time

Enjoy the new van Gerry. Happy travels (y)

Gerry,

What Laika model were you looking at? My 2019 Kreos 5009 has a huge heated double floor.

Congrats Gerry, might see it if David does another Dumfries meet.

Gerry,

What Laika model were you looking at? My 2019 Kreos 5009 has a huge heated double floor.

It was the model below that in low profile, I think it was a 309 but looked at that many I can't remember.
I did read the Kreos had the proper double floor its just the salesman was trying to convince me this model had one the just didn't put hatches or any access to it

I can see why you opted for the Knaus vans Gerry. I saw a couple of new ones today and they were really lovely inside.

Good choice sir.

Pilote every time the French equivalent of Hymer and 20 grand cheaper badge snobbery!

I have just purchased a Malibu I500 180bhp 9 speed made the choice between Carthago c-tourer 150, the main difference between the 2 vans is wall construction material and chassis all the dimension are exactly the same on both vans be it double floor, lockers, garage etc, the one I purchased is on the Fiat F40 chassis (dont know if this is a new line) it has a better payload of 4.4t compared to the alko 4.25t.

The wall and roof material are different thickness 33mm compared to 38mm, so should be lighter for a better payload against the cost of insulation. They are both made in the same factory all fittings furniture construction are all the same the only thing I would say is the Malibu is less "bling" which I personally prefer.

The Malibu came with the touring pack and roof aircon and I still paid in excess of £10k less than a 150bhp standard c-tourer, with that saving we are having full air fitted and our E+P jacks swapped over
