Choices for new van

You guys are older than I thought.

I'd be on cold rice pudding for a week if I suggested single beds. ;)

Our 2nd van had a transverse bed and although it was great our last van beat it hands down in the bed department with singles that can be made into double, we’d go for an island bed but yet to find one where my feet don’t hang off the end or corner.

We have a French bed and it's fine for me, but I'm only 6ft.

Just an honest opinion on how good or bad the van is

It’s our third MH. We’ve had a Swift , which was awful and a Pilote, which was okayish. The Laika is superb. It’s very well built, bits do not fall off and it’s solid. Doors, cupboards and drawers are well put together and are well constructed. The habitation door is sturdy and has two decent sized bins on it, one for general rubbish and one for recycling. The interior is extremely stylish and has some lovely touches, especially the lighting. There is a Jack and Jill bathroom, so if both beds are used, access in the night means you don’t disturb each other. The kitchen is well designed and had two deep sinks. It’s well insulated and stays warm, or cool with material lining the ceiling. The chairs and sofas are comfortable. The garage is massive and we keep tons of stuff in there, including our two electric bikes.

We’ve had it four years and done 27,000 and it still looks new. We bought it from Southdowns, and we are very happy with their service.

i thought carardo are the Dethleffs budget version.
we’ve had a Dethleffs and was pleased with the quality however the Toscana hobby we have is better. To give an idea of level. Isn’t the association because Hymer bought out Dethleffs
The Dethleffs budget version was Sunlight or always used to be.
I had a Dethleffs and liked it, very well put together.
Have you thought of calling in to Cannock and Go European to have a look at Carthago?
Or even importing one from Germany! You’ll get a lot more for your money.

Had a look on their website and will pop in for a look, we imported our last van new from Germany and would again but the savings aren’t anywhere near the same due to exchange rate.

We sold our van last month so now on the lookout for a new one, choice's up here are limited so we're heading down south or north to all you south of Watford   . We've booked next Friday off work and plan on heading down Thursday night so we're up early to start our viewings.

We've spoke with some dealers regarding some vans and although we don't have a dead cert on make or model it must have single beds over garage.

Here's a list of some makes we'll be looking at so please feel free to give your opinion on them.
Euramobil
Knaus
Hymer Exiss and T models
Carado I know its Hymer but is it the same structure
Burnster Lesyo Harmony LTD
Laika
Adria we had one before and liked it, have read some bad reviews on them lately though
Dethleffs

We would like to stay with in our budget of £65K but could stretch it for the special one
Hi we have had Dethleffs, Hymer and now a Hobby. The Dethleffs was without doubt the best put together and best presented van. Thinking of changing the Hobby to another Dethleffs.

Part of the Hymer Group, very good value fr money but the structure is nothing like the Hymer, they have timber internal walls, I think there is timber within the structure. Built on the standard Fiat chassis cab which give great ground clearance at the cost of handling.
Hymer's have not had timber in the structure since the 70's and new models since 2016 have aluminium internal walls.

Carado's are good value and if you self import depending on the model you could have a brand new one on the road for under £40k.

Have a look at the Hymer B/DL models we have a B678DL and find it very workable they do shorter versions? you’ll probably only get used ones no as line discontinued we had a Exsis but didn’t have the storage and also had stepped floor I believe the new ones are better though? good hunting
Probably out of OP's budget as they are holding their value well.

I imported in June last year and there are still massive savings to be had.
Just because the Euro isn’t where it was doesn’t mean you can’t save money.
I only got 1.13 in June and saved well over 20k.

My Dethleffs I got 1.41 in 2015 and just px that for my new Carthago and I got back what I paid for it.
If it were me I’d be looking on Link Removed

We have just bought a Laika from CAMPER UK in Lincoln. They have loads of German/ITALIAN makes.
A huge place with loads of choice.
Enjoy

Been looking on there for the last few months and although I can find the odd one with substantial savings I don’t think I’ve seen many at £20k savings

A member of Carthago owners UK is selling his immaculate C-Tourer Sport 144, 7m long.

Bought new in January 2017, 16k miles, 150 engine, automatic, VB air suspension, island bed, chassis 3850kg. Yours for £73k. PM me for details if interested.

Beware useful load!

I think that’s the Island bed layout which so far we haven’t found one long enough to prevent my feet hanging out the bottom corner ?? also one on sale with less mileage and 10k cheaper, granted it’s a 2016

Best savings are normally on factory orders at Caravan Salon. I think Rob's saving includes the higher trade in value you get abroad.
Likewise, I saved around £25K on my current van, the trade in price on my old van was £12 more than what UK dealers were offering.

Have a look at Go European at Gailey, just off the M6.
Had an email from them the other day offering 2019 models with up to £32k discount.
There was a very nice Carthago e- line at around £89k.
They are a family run company and very good to deal with.

Richard.

What’s the difference between Carthago and their Malibu range.

What’s the difference between Carthago and their Malibu range.
Malibu started as PVC's but the range has been extended into full A class vans now.
Compared to Carthago they are the 'budget' range. I don’t think they have the double floor or are winterised to the same extent.

Richard.

A bit like the difference between Rapido & Itineo or Adria & Sun Living I think.

We recently bought a dethleffs pulse 2019 in that budget extremely happy with it although it's only had light use so far and is our first motorhome so nothing to compare it with but 2 friends of ours who have had motorhomes were really impressed and said they would consider for future purchases.

Slightly off subject but are you thinking buying new or used?
My own thoughts are buy an as new, used. There are plenty out there. The amount of peops who think its a great idea to retire/sell up and buy an expensive MoHo and set sail into the sun. 6 Months later they dont like it and the MoHo is up for sale, 500miles on the clock and £1000s of pounds reduced compared to new.
One of my brothers being 1, I bought it of him at a year old as his wife didnt like MoHo`ming (Bailey Approach Autograph 750) then 18mths later he went and bought a Burstner with more or less same layout!
Sounds a bit brutal but let someone else take the initial hit of losing thousands.
Having said that, my last 2 cars I have bought new but only because of the 0% finance that was offered at the time, Ford then Jaguar.
Unfortunately I dont see many Leisure vehicle companies offering 0%, but even so, if you are buying outright you would save a huge amount if buying privately, as not everyone is in the position to buy without going through a dealer and anyone selling privately has a limited amount of potential buyers.

I’ve only had a quick look at the T430 le and it has the double floor with tanks inside and heated, going by the quick look it looks very similar. Will investigate more tonight

The CB Malibu's are on the Fiat Camping Car chassis so single floor, cheaper furnishing. Pretty good vans they look cheap until you spec the necessary extras, once you have done that not much difference in price to a Carthago C-Tourer, so you would be better off with the Tourer.
