Vrsic pass is out. Too far.
Wurzen pass up.
Then we LL decide Bled or Fusine.
The A11 tunnel is out because of toll (probably both sides) so we have to keep going til the loibl pass.

NB we will take our passports with us.

If we go Bled that is beyond our normal comfort level. It will be touching 150 KMs which is nearly a tankful of petrol (or 6 euros) 😉

What a cracking day out.
Westys advice was relooked at this morning over coffee and we went Wurzen pass vrsic pass and back again With immense thanks to WESTY66 for pointing out these passes in what can only be described as stunning scenery.

Unfortunately the really good photos on a decent camera are far too big to upload on here and FB wouldn't take 13 of them !

I actually meant coffee in Kobarid….. but you didn’t get that far😉👍👍👍

Thats fine. Paula offered to push us up the hill tomorrow as well 👍

Having now checked our distance today 75 km and going up 3 steep hills, we think Bled at 75 km going over and through the loibl pass seems quite doable. Loible pass was ok in comparison to those 2 as we have made it up to the tunnel earlier in the week.

Besides, I think I am getting withdrawal symptoms of the smell of burning brake pads

As there is no place to put this in the journal.
Lake temperature was spotted today and according to the thermometer it is 25c
April was warm this year and although late may has been wet it has been warm with it.
2 weeks ago lake temperature was 20c which was refreshing upon entry on a warm day.

It is worth keeping an eye on lake temperatures if coming late may early june

Loibl pass through to Slovenia where we went onto Lake Bled (incoming)

We decided we would go through this tunnel but armed with the knowledge that we would need our passports on the way back to get back into Austria from Slovenia.
The road up is windy but wide enough. We have been in a bus that overtook a tractor... https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/journals/loibl-pass-austria-slovenia.488/

Just an update of no journal entry today, just in case you were expecting one.

We have moved on from Worthersee to Millstattersee and the weather is best described as appalling. Currently writing this up and we can't see the lake but this was it earlier
IMG20240610161735.jpg

It looks like the heavy stuff is coming later tonight and we have thunderstorm warnings til Wednesday night.
If we go up the lake to Spittal about 6 KMs away then onto the hills then we will get snow according to ventusky.
Temperatures for next 3 days for us are 15 12 14 as highs during the day however I got burnt this afternoon in 18c and the aftersun is in full use. Burnt on my legs which have been out most of the time.
We also pick up the Millstattersee card which gives more freebies beyond the KC card.
We LL be here for a fortnight and there will be more cable cars going higher a couple of gorge walks, some panoramic roads, a boat trip, some boring museums, an adventure park lake (think zip wire swimming pool) all for free. The sauna down the road is discounted for us so that is a possibility here as well.
This campsite is heaving for time of year and 23 euros ACSI.

I’m sorry I’m gonna have to stop reading your posts on Kärnten now, you’re just having too much of a bloody good time!!🤬🤬🤬

Gorge walk (a funicular type railway incoming shortly

A 9 euros KC freebie about 15 miles west of Spittal.
Signposts are available just before you need them.
There are 3 available parking areas and motorhomes can easily get into the larger 2 and although the portacabin style toilets didn't look... https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/journals/groppenstein-gorge-kärnten-card.490/

2.5 journals today.

This is number 1, a museum. Number 2 will be a gorge walk which we think is better than yesterday's and on a par with the unpronounceable T gorge from about 3 weeks ago.
I won't put a link up to the 3rd one which will be (eventually) a cable car to 2600 m

Having failed to go up the cable car we went to this museum in the vicinity in Mallnitz which is quite picturesque even on a full misty day and with a number of various aged 10-16 year old different coach trips visiting this educational... https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/journals/bios-national-park-center-mallnitz-kärnten-card.493/

2nd update. Corker gorge. Heavily intoxicated with ohotos

This is our 4th Gorge walk and they are all excellent. This one, however, comes equal top with the unpronounceable T gorge.
We weren't going to do this today as the cable car was our intention but a schoolgirl error made us do plan B.
It's only... https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/journals/ragga-gorge-kärnten-card.494/

A non journal update.

We have had 2 days of incessant rain so far with tonight and tomorrow morning to come.
We have changed from lidl to Billa and been in 4 so far today and purchased in 3 of them. A nice burger roll for 2.50. Tins of herring for 1.49 and while we were at the first one they had some sun loungers for 34.90 which I need for my back as I can't lie on my front on hard ground (back issue) but we were far too far away to bring them back on the scooter so thought the Billa at Seeboden (about 5 miles away from us would have them but no) so we tried everywhere else as carrying them on our bike we would draw attention to ourselves. Spittal would have been a no go for this reason.
Thought we had to give up but as we came through Millstatt like an oasis in a desert another unknown to us Billa sign appeared. So we got 2 as they had them.
Got out to the bike with the intention of my knees pushing them against the front but that would only work if I put my feet on the pillions footpegs and her feet on top of mine. So we went for the trusty squeeze them in between us system and in our saturated state set off in the thunderstorm riding the scooter and having to go up the campsite hill. Really unfortunate that hopefully there are no photos of this.
This is right outside our door now

You have. They do a curry herring tin and a Mexican one for 1.49. we even picked up their next week's bargain offers and even more impressive to us is they have a dirty kebab van right outside in Millstatt and the prices were visible so they can expect a purchase if it ever stops raining

Number 2
Wildlife park and stuffed animals which we thought was a lot better than anticipated

We looked at this wildlife park and thought it might be a bit of a con.
The photos make the wildlife look real but they are stuffed animals but we thought it would be worth a go.
As soon as we got there a massive chicken appears up the hill... https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/foru...ark-nature-barn-feld-am-see-kärnten-card.496/

521.50 euros so far with about 12 days left.
If we can get to 840 euros (each) then that would be us only paying 10% of everything and a joint savings of 1512 euros.

They do ....... But they are ideal cheap lunches. I don't think we have had the same flavour yet. Surprisingly only had about 4 tins as we keep finding Billa or McDonald's bargains.

In France we normally baguette and ham it up for lunch but German and Austrian bread just doesn't get anywhere near to the quality and we are out each day.
We may try a tuna one soon just to break up the monotony. Mexican today and it had quite a kick
