Caravan Wardens Required Market Rasen Racecourse

As far as I see it, if they are advertising the posts as full time and 'free accommodation', then they must still comply with minimum wages but they are allowed to allow an 'accommodation offset'.

https://www.gov.uk/national-minimum-wage-accommodation

So for a couple (over 25) doing a full time job (let's say 40 hours each) they would earn £656.80 per week

The permissible 'accommodation offset' for free accommodation is £52.85 each per week, so £105.70 total

Therefore a couple working full time would need to be paid £551.10

Anything less than this per 40 hour week would breach minimum wage regulations

Though I'm not entirely sure that providing a pitch qualifies as providing accommodation

A Hod and triple extension ladders. When your half way up and the ladder starts bouncing it gets emotional :D
Been there and done that.................minus a hod full of bricks though.

That Warden's job sounds like seasonal hard labour to me.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

We just haven't found the right assistant wardens yet, we are compiling a short list
Hi.
Surely that is a "Vertically Challenged" people only advert.....SHAME on you, there are lots of tall people want a job as well.
Tea Bag (PS. My height on Tinder is a Guestimate'ish...:whistle:)

That the job vacancy runs from March To October and they are now in April trying to fill it, means a lot of folk probably think the same

I think it doesn't help that they don't say what they're paying. As many peoples perception is that it will be peanuts, for a lot of hard graft.

Friends did toilet / shower block cleaning grass cutting unblock drains, and check toilet blocks last thing at night ............
 FOR A FREE SERVICE PITCH. Oh they did get gas electric and internet. o_O
What pi$$ed them off was having to ask for tokens for the washing machine.

 They only did it to get the experience of campsite work, never done it since. Bob.

It’s still listed on the Caravan and Motorhome Club website as an Affiliated site so there must be someone working there.
Its about 8 mile away from where we live and we stayed there a few years ago when between houses. The showers were a bit grotty which you get when you get a clinging plastic curtain around your legs so I hope that they have been improved. Not a bad place to work though.

That has to pay quite well though!

They do seem to make it sound like your gonna be busy! I reckon it would be a good earner, especially for two!!
Sounds like one of those vacancies that lay about Brits don't want cos they are lazy, so the well paid management just had to bring in workers from Rumania who will do a fair days work whatever the wage is.

Talk about being provocative! ........................ Romania even. ;)

Cheers,

Jock. ;)

I agree with Buttons to some extent. Most jobs would sound a bit daunting if you list every single thing that you are likely to do as they have done. But 40 hours work is 40 hours work. Personally I would rather do 40 hours of varied work like they are offering, than say 40 cushy mind-numbing hours just stuck manning a reception.

Not for everyone, which sounds like most that have replied on the thread, but there's always someone that will be interested for a variety or reasons. Some campsites will most definitely take the p**s.

As has been said before on other threads that come up with camp jobs advertised, it will be a lifestyle choice.

Mainly it depends on the hours required and the responsibilities, but when we first hit the road in 2009 and where looking at cheap ways to stay somewhere a campsite job for the summer looked a good option, free pitch, electric, water etc for 4-5 months for a few hours work each day would work out just right. It's all about what works for you.

I wouldn't worry about minimum wage and workers rights to much. Have a look at volunteer sites, 5 hours work 5 days a week for bed and bread and dripping. What a great way to explore new places on the cheap.

If we where going to be in the uk this summer I'd be sending our details to @eddievanbitz

its the fact that they state '40 hours' that i find strange
if i use 42 hours, just for easy maths, then it is 6 hours a day each which sounds reasonable... say 8am-2pm for one and 2pm-8pm for the other
BUT.........
one has to answer the phones/man the shop whilst the other is out cleaning/mowing/showing people to their pitch
one is working for the racecourse during/pre racedays when the other would still have to be manning the phones/shop
which means the hours must overlap, jobs on the site need doing 7 days a week, phones must always be manned, for the site and the for the golf course at weekends plus late arrivals and security rounds then it is an open hours job which is not a problem in itself as long as they dont pretend it is 40 hours
i think the ad would be better if they said how much it paid and left the hours off as anyone thinking of going for it would know it is a 24/7 job as you live onsite and grab your downtime as and when

Nothing strange about 40 hours must be the most common number for a working week. It says you are assisting a ‘team’ so no idea how many staff they have. Just not enough at the moment :D

Are you actually interested in the job?

In a previous job I sometimes went to work and disappeared for 72 hours whilst supervising the discharge of large parcel tankers ,and that job didn't pay overtime , Boy was I glad I got out of that one .

In H M Forces, yes definitely, but in a civvy role? I certainly wouldn't consider those hours to be expected of anyone. :(

Cheers,

Jock.

On a well played salaried job some unpaid hours are the norm on lineage you want paying for every minute worked

If, you are a "one man" Business, The hours you put in can be well below "slave" rates in terms of "pence per hour". AND don`t get me started on about "working for the Tax man/Government/Local Authority, for free", Doing their Job`s for them!.

Hi, Jock At the time it was the norm for all the guys/firms involved it was just part of the job 1970s to 1980s. It went to 12 hour shifts after this period .

Only 12? Hour`s?.:(. When your "back to back" failed to materialise, that became Very, "open ended"!!:(. The plant ran 24/7/365-1/4, and couldn't be left.!!.
I tried it for 3 Months when I had a "Break" from being At Sea, when Second Boy was Born. In the end I went back to Sea, I had more time with the Family overall doing that. Eventually Month on Month off, on the Ferries.
