caravan club - all change !

I can never get my head round the multiple charging options that the CAMC have. You only really need two. Hard standing or grass electric optional. Or am I missing something. Yes. Perhaps I am. The opportunity to make money!!
I am currently at Dezenac on a Camping Car Park stopover. 11 euros full services inc laundry. Formerly a municipal Site now taken over, fully automated.
Another point with the CMCC. Veg Preparation area !!! Washing up area!
and of course Showers closed for cleaning , having said that we don’t use them anyway.
How refreshing it is to be back over the Water in civilised Motorhome Country!

I suspect that treating people like gentleman only ever worked one way. I wonder how many unable or unwanting to turn up phoned the site to apologise and offered to pay the price for the pitch if they were fully booked as they had reserved a spot someone else could have used?
I don't think the reason for being unable to attend comes into it try saying to an airline that you want to pay nothing because you had a reason you couldn't come also if there was a get out for the reason some will just make it up.
I'm glad they've changed and it should make booking a lot more straightforward.

And more pitches available as no multiple bookings allowed now, 1 pitch per member across the network for any particular day / night

its only happened twice in my life personally.,

why not take a sensible veiwpoint and ask for a deposit from the people who have let them down previously

Sooo, isn't that you?

🤣

I don't see a problem with taking a deposit, and the cancellation time is pretty short to be fair...

It was bonkers allowing people to book more than one place for the same night without losing deposits. It might well be the facility to easily overbook at no cost caused a shortage of availability and caused more overbooking just in case.

When we were towing, the kids were small then, we regularly came across people who freely admitted that they had booked 3 or 4 different areas for a weekend, and then went where the weather looked best and just left the others, All too easy when no deposit, only honesty. is required !!

You cannot book more than 1 site for a particular night per member, never could even before deposit so I think you were misled. Of course if you were both members in your own right you could both book separately but why pay an extra membership 🤔

no it isnt f*****g me - where do you get that stupid idea ?? i have never done a no show in my life !!!

Your wrong, i lament the reason it's nessesary, not the money, another benchmark of honesty gone
Really? I own a campsite and making people pay in advance was the best thing we did!

People tell us they won't book in that case and we say 'your loss, bye'

Moving away from the argument about deposits …… I tried to do some booking on new website. First of all you seem to have to put in arrival date, but that is not kept through to the site selection stage so no point to it.
I tried to book Cheltenham race course and fair enough, on the calender, some dates marked as closed, so I started choosing random other dates all the way through to August 2023, no dates I selected even if one night, were available - but that does not show on the calendar. I’m not sure that site would be fully booked all next year anyway.
So then I tried another site - Cirencester. Managed to get a night selected and moved on to completing the booking. Had to put in each person’s name AND date of birth, already stated as an adult, I don’t see why they need DOB. Anyway decided to proceed so attemped to add husband’s DOB. Unfortunately you are not allowed to get the keyboard and type it in, you have to use the displayed calendar which shows current month, October 2022 and goes backwards one month at a time ! After skipping back a few months, I gave up and left his date of birth as somewhere in 2020 🤣🤣. Tried to proceed but it wouldn’t as age of person did not meet requirements of being an adult😳
How am I supposed to skip back to 1946 without getting RSI??
Have given up!

I can't remember how I did it but having just booked Warwick R/C and Chatsworth for later this month I think I dragged and highlighted the 2022 date showing and typed the year in, whatever, I did find a way around it.

Hi riverbankannie
If you are trying to change the date of birth using a mobile, if you press on the current year for a couple of seconds you should get a drop down box so you can select the correct year.

This has been my main gripe too.

Sometimes it will speed things up by keeping your finger pressed on the back-arrow but often it doesn't.

On my android tablet, I have once kept my finger pressed on the calendar and got a drop down option to choose the date but not everytime.

It really does need fixing.

Using ipad, thanks will try that.

Yes simple fix just to be able to type it in - or leave it out altogether, why do they require date of birth adult or not should be sufficient - and I will be making one up for both of us.

I usually back-arrow to about the year 2000. If someone wants to challenge my age when I get to the site, they are very brave! 😂

You said it happened to you twice in your life. But whatever, wind your neck in 🙄
not a no show - i have had to cancel twice on my life, on both occasions it was in plenty of time and i spoke to the camp site directly as well

i am getting tired of repeating myself now - i didnt say i would not pay a deposit - i said it was a sad indictment of todays society that its now necessary. I have just paid IN FULL for 3 days at a site in a couple of weeks time hence me suddenly finding out about it and my subsequent ramblings on here now.

I'm not so sure it's been that good a system for a long time maybe it's more how long it's taken them to do anything rather than suddenly got worse

Prices will go up until people stop paying, the Europeans won't pay exorbitant prices so their prices are reasonable.

Have you seen how much continental Motorhomes are?

Continental motorhomes are a different breed. They don't mind parking in up in a car park for the night (or several). Prices range from free to 20 euros max ( in really popular tourist destinations) with fresh water and waste being the only facilities. Suits me too.

:sneaky:
Did you mean the CCC or the CAMC - or both?...Or any others for that matter.
oh dear, i meant what used to be called the caravan club - but because of its new long name nobody calls it that any more - so CAMC i think .

aires are wonderful, but they vary from a drain in a corner to water and hifi and free leccy in a huge field with a lake or beach - most i have seen is 16 euros

I had a call earlier this year for a site I had booked a year before and had forgotten about, as I spoke with the warden I apologised and offered to pay as it was my fault for not dairying and not turning up, my apologies were accepted and in that instance I was not charged. But if I had of been charged I would not have been coming on to this site and complaining how unfair etc etc etc

Oh I have its a human condition, I recall one day sitting on the M25 knowing my plane had taken off at luton you could see the teeth marks of anxiety in the steering wheel. Another time from America I mixed up the take off and landing dates Doh! I also walked on to a wrong plane the nice lady came and fetched me and escorted me to the correct one. Wrong trains, wrong part of the country for a meeting the list goes on.

When we had a caravan in the 1980s when our kids were young we were CC (as they were) members mainly for their Red Pennant insurance. I can remember then complaints about selfish double or treble bookings. Very annoying because I was working and could never just make a quick decision to go away for a weekend because all the sites were booked.

It has taken a long time to try to sort it out. IMHO there was never a time when it was a gentemen's club.

So you are happy to pay a deposit? I’m getting confused now 🤣
