Chausson 727 welcome
Afternoon Guys 😊. Just looking at joining a caravan and motorhome club for booking on campsites really. Is it recommended by you lot out there??

I'm a member of both clubs, CAMC is a bit more expensive but the facilities are slightly better in my opinion, all the club sites i've stayed on have had showers with proper taps rather then push buttons that give you 20 seconds of hot water at a time, however CCC are significantly cheaper if you're over 60 as they give you a discount. If you intend longer stays CAMC max is 21 days with a 2 day break I believe and CCC are 28 days max with a 5 day break before you can return.

Have stayed on some great CLs for c£25 per night
That is a ridiculous price for a CL, I can't believe anyone would pay that.

We left the C&MC last year as I could not justify the cost v facilities. We don't want:-
  • pitches the size of a small African state
  • EHU (unless metered)
  • to subsidise the "heated awning brigade"
  • overheated toilet blocks
I fully appreciate others will have different requirements
On another point it seems to me quite a few join for the perks, not the provision of main sites

I was a member for many years until in the space of a few months I had cause to complain about a particular site and warder. Also, in a separate incident about the way they dealt with a simple travel insurance claim. If what they offer is what you want then fine, but if something goes wrong be prepared for a nasty fight. The Post Office is a mere pussycat by comparison ;).

Left both after 2 years. For us a waste of money. They are not run for members, they are businesses masquerading as clubs.
It doesn’t matter to me what they call themselves. If they provide a service that I want, at a price that I think is reasonable, I will continue to use them.

To give an idea of pricing, low season Chertsey CCC with age discount, single occupant two nights £31 CAMC Winchester £42, both hardstanding with Electric similar sites with similar facilities except for the better showers at Winchester and slightly bigger pitches, not that the showers at Chertsey are bad just that they are push button ones.

You going NEC Martin ?
Yes👍 Wednesday and Friday 🤔 don’t ask, OK I booked for Wednesday and then said to friends about it but they couldn’t do Wednesday so we decided to move sites as original one full and go again them on Friday, I could have changed tickets over but thought it wasn’t worth the hassle, are you going?

Kingsbury water park C&CC site for the NEC show, £26 for two people, electric and hard standing with age concession discount (y) I don't think that's too bad ;)
We stayed at Kenilworth rugby club for a couple of nights in October, 30 minutes from NEC.

Yes but most are honest about their purpose, not purporting to be a club run by members for members.
.. but I've found nothing dishonest about the C&CC, I pay my yearly membership fee, I get discounted prices for staying, amongst other stuff.

We are in both clubs and use the sites occasionally, we also use Caravan and Motorhome Club to book ferries especially if we are going from Hull as their rates are much better than booking direct.
And with CMC we got 5% off our next cruise plus a further 5% for booking on board plus £500 on board credit.

You have to ask about the affiliate program, they don't advertise it.

I really don't care whether the CAMC is a club or a business. it's easy to join, the grounds and sanitaires are immaculate, the pitches spacious enough and it costs peanuts to belong. I've only used my fourteen years of CAMC membership for about four or five nights a year when visiting family as I only tour abroad.
If the membership fee was of the slightest financial concern to me I wouldn't have bought a motorhome in the first place.
(It's my impression that those who moan about the membership/site costs have probably drawn down pension funds or taken out finance to buy the m/h but are income poor).

We ditched the CAMC after over 30 years being members, it is a huge profit making business. Why pay £56 a year just to have the privilege of paying inflated prices for a night, ok the sites are not too bad with fairly decent facilities but we found we spent more time on other commercial sites with better facilities for half the price. No doubt of the two main clubs the CCC are better value as they give age concessions for the older generation and also run the Temporary holiday sites which are usually very good

That's a very big assumption that people choose to leave these clubs because they can't afford it. For many it's about how they operate. I retired at 56, I'm now 64 and haven't touched my pensions.

We are alo in the Motor Caravaners Club where we have met many Motorhome Fun members. From our point of view, the two clubs compliment each other, one with hundreds of rallies and some CLs, etc. We have been in several Motorhome Clubs and now stick with Fun and MCC. Very happy with both.

Your last paragraph ( apart from being insulting) is a big assumption without any substance. I cancelled my membership not because I couldn’t afford it but because I don’t like the club and their arrogance. They recently offered us all a free night because they realised members were leaving in their droves. I got a ferry quote that was £100 above the price direct from the ferry company. When I challenged them they offered to price match. Needless to say they never got my business.

Not in my case. I seek value for money ......... And I have no idea how to arrive at such an impression ..

It's neither insulting nor an assumption; it's my personal impression (other impressions are available), although undoubtedly there will be exceptions.

We're in both, mainly for CL/CS network but also London-adjacent sites. So far not found any non-club options within the M25. Seen in many discussions that they're expensive, but paid very similar amounts for non-club sites in Devon. Grandkids love the playgrounds, etc...
