Just a quick one.

If we book a site in advance or on the day. And we are unable to make it.

Does anyone know the cancellation policy please ?.

I’ve tried to glean the info from their site but it’s not clear (to us) .

CCP is a commercial business, the extra subscription for this facility is good income to them. Making it difficult to cancel is not surprising. They also rely on customers not remembering to cancel and just letting it roll over. Their scheme, their rules.

Absolutely, but I think they'll have to change it soon as (AFAIK) there's a new law in France that says cancelling subscriptions must be doable online now. Good news for me because I want to cancel my ripoff SFR contract!! :)

EDIT - Yes, here it is, introduced just over a year ago. Maybe someone should inform CCP.

Interesting. But as always in France they will ignore it for a while, maybe comply in a year or so?

Are you sure it lapsed and did not auto-renew? I have just investigated cancelling my Pack Privileges subscription and found the following instruction:-

  • The PACK'PRIVILÈGES must be cancelled by post addressed to CAMPING-CAR PARK (Service Résiliation PP - 3, rue du Docteur Ange Guépin 44210 Pornic - France) at least 1 month before the renewal date indicated in the « My account » section of the CAMPING-CAR PARK website or application. In this letter, you must indicate the reference number of your PASS'ÉTAPES card as well as your name, first name, postal address and email address.

So, dead easy to subscribe to digitally but all the way back to snail mail if you want out. I'm very surprised that they pull a stunt like this.
They sent me an email and I didn’t renew. So far no auto renewal.

I've just sent an email to them. Might get a reply by the end of August but who knows!

I still want to use the card, and I have a reasonable credit balance in the account, but we just don't use any of the features in the Privileges Pack as it turns out.
Just use it up , then cancel your DD or how you pay, next time you want to use them , open a new account in your wife's name.

I cancelled our privilege pack auto renewal recently. Sent an email requesting it and received a polite and helpful reply the following day saying the pack won't be auto renewed but the privileges will remain until the auto renewal date. All very simple and efficient.

I think the key is getting there early. If you leave it too late in the day, most people have already got to where they're going.
Surely the point is that Pack Privilege lets you book in advance so you don't have to get there early !

Has anyone ever found a full one? We haven't, no way I would be booking, there's always somewhere else close by anyway.
In fact if you have the app you can see if there is space before you go to it.
We found a full one in France but as you say there was a campsite next door.

There are a couple of CCP sites now in Spain. The Lorca one was free until this July, and I wonder if this will be the next stage of the companies development.

Oh good. I've written to them so perhaps they will do the same for me. I wonder why they leave their terms unaltered.

We haven’t found a full one, out of high season.

But travelling in summer holidays with threee children
Calais Aire was full 3 weeks ago, could not believe it…unheard of. But since the change of ownership and installation of hook up it has become far more popular. Interestingly, there was also 5 German caravans taking up a lot of space. Seen this more and more where caravans are starting to use Aires. Nobody around to Police it so guess they just think it’s okay.

This screenshot shows a couple of full aires in Brittany. One of them is Cléder where we will be staying for a couple of nights in two weeks this Tuesday. I've booked in advance because I know this aire is popular, especially at weekends.

Of course there may not be a spot for us, their system isn't very accurate at knowing how many spaces are taken. If it's full I'll get straight on the phone to get my money back as you have to pay in advance when you make a reservation.

I stayed at Martel earlier this year and there was a caravan and a couple of tents. I checked the board outside and they are permitted. There are toilets and showers because it a municipal campsite until recently. The caravan had a full awning out so with the car as well took up at least 2 pitches. The campers were a couple of women on bikes so I guess they just walk in and use it free.

Calais Aire is clearly marked, “No Caravans”

Martel is a "Camping de mon Village" and is a proper municipal campsite for most of the year. Some only open for all campers in high season but Martel has facilities open from April to November.

Yes. Often. Especially on the coast. Take a look at any from La Rochelle and south right now.

A couple of weeks ago we stayed at Martel (absolutely beautiful town) for 3 nights because it was stinking hot and there is lots of shade there. It was full all the time we were there and we only got the last pitch when we arrived. It is the only one of their sites that I have been on which permits caravans and tents. There was only one caravan but with a full awning and a car took at least 2 pitches. There was also a couple of young women in tents but they were using corners that would not be accessible to MHs. People appeared to be gaining access by phoning the control desk and saying there was still space (the pitches are not defined) so it ended up very squashed in parts. There is a free Aire about 100m along the road but with no facilities whatsoever.
All ex Mon Village and most ex municipal camping sites allow caravans and tents when the sanitary facilities are open.

To guarantee a space for the people with the privilege pack they must have to leave a few spaces free at every site. So it might say full even if there are empty spaces. I don't know if this is a fact though. Just speculating.

I don't think they guarantee you a space until you book one, if it's full you then can't book one but if there is a space when you book that space will be yours and put as no space on the app.

I misread it.. it says this

You may enter and exit the aire as often as you like, a spot is guaranteed for you at anytime on the aire.

Yes, when a place is booked it is marked as unavailable but the problem is their system isn't 100% accurate knowing how many places are free - folk have been known to enter without being counted. :)

And also they couldn't keep places available in case someone might book, how far would you have to go, what if twenty suddenly wanted to book and there was only twenty to start with.

At places like Martel, where pitches are not marked and the number given is notional, we saw people talk their way in. I think there were 4 more vans on site than the maximum quoted. Some were parked in really awkward spots.

Yes

The one at Saumur is usually full in high season. One of our favourite towns but can be tricky to get in. We tries to book it 4 months in advance to coincide with our Ruby wedding anniversary but no luck. Some horse event was on that weekend.

I think the biggest issue is the marking of pitches. The App shows how many pitches then counts down from there as people book in. However, many of the Aires have no demarcation of spaces, therefore if people take more space than was used for the calculation and allocation then you could turn up to find no space but the App showing there is. They really need to mark out the pitches so people know how to park, Calais being a great example. I did write to them but got a cut and paste reply which didn’t even mention the point I was trying to raise. The golden rule is arrive early and you are almost guaranteed a space.

As there is no one on site to police pitches, i have also seen people spread out over two or more pitches with their awnings, trailer, motorbike / scooter, especially when the pitches aren’t clearly defined

Cheers
