Camping Gaz 907 cylinders……….. outrageous price!

It's the sort of thing I'm quite happy to do and could do it safely without a problem but I wouldn't post it on forum or YouTube.
Too many people out there who see things on Web and think it's fine to copy when they haven't got a clue.

Each to their own I guess, if I were to attempt to do the same at home I dare not think of the chastisement/fete that would await me from Cindy, an ex-Firefighter but still in the brigade in a fire safety role. But then she knows I’m a numpty without the requisite expertise, who would likely be attempting such using some questionable (‘much cheapness’) equipment sourced from who knows where on the interweb. ;)

Some interesting points from both angles of cost saving and potential danger but in reality no different from people who refuel their petrol lawnmower while the engine is still hot.
People are doing this with propane from the larger bottles due to the difficulty getting suitable camping bottles especially the 6kg ones.
A little knowledge can be dangerous but nothing in the opening post implies that this is the case.

I received a notification that I was mentioned in a post by the OP yesterday, which was timed at 4.35pm (16.35hrs).

No such post exists anymore. Hmmm, I wonder why?

Jock.
How weird? I did press the ignore button but did not realise that meant that you could not read the post I made. So I have ‘un ignored’ you so that you can see it. As far as I can tell it was there all the time.

Yes, I have just this morning been made aware of it, but thanks anyway Richard.

Chockswahay. If you can see my post, I am as keen as the next person to save a few bob, especially in these trying financial times, with worse to come apparently, but to be fair, where you might have thought you were doing others a favour by demonstrating your efforts to cut energy costs, in actual fact, you did no one any favours, least of all yourself, be openly setting yourself up on the great big WWW.

If I was a passenger in your Hot Air Balloon, and you told me not to do something because it was dangerous, I would heed your advice for the very reason that "I might not know any better", whereas you as the pilot would.

Decanting flammable gases or liquids, without the proper training, equipment, and PPC, is a No No, and I am sure it will be legislated against somewhere. I just don't know exactly where though. So, to encourage others to maybe do the same, just to save a few bob, is somewhat irresponsible in my opinion. YouTube is full of videos from folks, giving similar dangerous advice. :(

Regards,

Jock.
So now I have been able to see your reply…. I’m not inclined to disagree with your basic sentiment, I just think you could have been more factual and less personal. It was not my intention to encourage people to do it but I get the point. As for training, well I have all that is required for the task. By the way there is no law against it, and for others that think it is illegal or in breach of contracts with gas suppliers that would only apply if you ‘rent’ the cylinder. In the case of 907’s they are bought and owned …. Not rented.

My father in law was a Fire Officer...and talk about a pedantic individual.
I'm all for.safety and push the reasonably practicable safety side..but my looooord it was just too much. And every opportunity he'd be ramming videos down people throats of fires in 3rd world countries high rise blocks in the 70s and how "this will happen to you if you fart in a strong wind."

He retired and was given a cushy part time job for the local health authority (quite openly admitted it was a job for the boys) going round checking care homes ...fighting equipment etc. He was finished after 6 months for condemning everything and anything costing thousands for the most trivial things...need signs for this..you can't use that..this needs replacing.
Even his ex colleagues said he should reel it in a bit but oh nooooooo...fire kills...so you can't argue with me.

Sometimes you can go too far the other way in the name.of elf and safety...and FIRE KILLS..

Note I'm not saying then posters here do/done this but it happens.

Would I fill my gas like that...of course I would if times were hard
