Hi all, we are travelling down through France early in the new year and looking for stop overs. Has any one used Camping Car Parks and what is your opinion using for overnight stops? I believe pay £5 account set up, put credit on your account and book sites on line - does this work ok? Looks good to me as they have lots of all year sites and you have the confidence of booking sites ahead. I might be over worrying but we are traveling will be out of season. Thanks

5 stars from me.. used several this past summer..

good spacing
excellent services
6A EHU included
Reasonable prices around €14.50
Pay using CCP card on exit..
Top up card using the app

no need to book at this time of year and you can look ahead and see how many places are available.

What's not to like.. 👍

I wouldn't rely on water being available in the winter months, we read on here often enough that water is turned off for obvious reasons in winter.

No problems with them at all, if you want to prebook you will need to pay €29 for Le pack priviléges but I wouldn't bother, the app tells you how many pitches are available in any particular site so you can see whether there's room or not, you need the card to get in, you can get this in advance of travel or from a machine at a site, you can put funds onto the card from the app.

Agree with above comments, good value and you can rely on services being clean and working. I'm pretty sure the water is always on too even in winter.
Others may be able to confirm as I've only used them May to October

Do you mean I needn't have a card or registration on arrival but can just turn up and have one issued by the machine at the gate?

A card can be issued when you arrive and costs 5 euro but must be topped up with sufficient funds so you can pay as you exit.
Very simple to use - tap the key pad on entry and tap the exit point on exit - that simple.
I would recommend buying the card in UK and adding funds to it before you leave on your travels rather than fiddle at the first entry point when might be cold, wet and windy!

They are very handy but be careful in Winter which ones you choose as many of them were campsites with all grass pitches and are unusable as we found out last January.

As above, I purchased the Le pack priviléges, well worth it especially if you are travelling some distance to your next stop, nothing worse than looking at the app in the morning, seeing availability then turning up to see that someone has beat you to it . They were all very clean and well maintained.

They do vary we only ever seem to find the grotty ones. Once you have the card you can enter with it and when you leave just top up with the amount you need to exit.
They are on the expensive site from €8 to €15 some even more.
They are supposed to have the water on all year but not always the case so make sure you travel with a full tank.

LennyHB’s point about water has reminded me that last January we stopped at 2 going down to Spain and 2 more coming back in March and none had the water turned on.

Not got privileges but would do if we were in France for longer than 2 weeks at a time.

We’ve stayed in a few now and liked them enough to stay a couple of nights but there are others that wouldn’t suit us - they’re a good part of the mix.

I love the fact the app works real time and tells you how long till you get charged for another day. It’s super easy to add funds) I keep balance of 2-3 nights ‘just in case’.

Currently sat in a lovely one at Seurre on the River Saone 😀

We were there in August and it is a good one with some nice cycling along the river. Is the town open now - it appeared to be almost totally shut for the two days we stayed!

We have used a few now. Quite expensive, but you do get all facilities; tap your card on the bourne post to operate. Normally WiFi as well. You don’t have to pay for the privilege option as you can book a pitch on the day of arrival. Check app for spaces, then book if only a few left.
I would order a card before going as you have time. Just easier. Then top up as you use it.

We are users of this scheme when we stray into France....great value....here in one region if Spain there is a similar network...secure parking in gated area for 6€. Little extra for water and electricity....now that's great value..too..

What's the Spanish one called?

Actually to my knowledge it doesn't carry a name....there are a group of Camperstops in the Castile la Mancha Region that offer this scheme.....if you look on Park4Night and find the Red Motorhome symbol that carries a 6.05€ overnight charge...that's the ones....credit card payment on entry...

The ex municipal sites are given a separate name - Camping de mon Village - and are amber on the app map. Some do have at least some hard standings.

The CCPs are more numerous , have a navy symbol on the map and I can’t recall staying on any without at least part hard standing. You can see photos on the app and user reviews, so you really shouldn’t have any problems.

I was put off by the ‘Mon village’ label thinking it would be a bit like a holiday park but stayed at one this October and loved it - peaceful riverside site co-run with local village.

There seems to be two CCP in Spain, the one in the south at Lorca is a bargain 1 euro per night inc ehu, don't know how they an do that ?
Even Lenny HB may be tempted at rates like that.
Not surprisingly it's popular but there are 3 free places for tonight
I stayed at the one in Pinhel NE Portugal which was 6 euro in October and was a pleasant enough place for a night.

Yes but better to get one before hand not all machines have them. You then will be given a code for each site you visit untill a card turns up or you find a machine that will spit it out.

We've been to the one at Rochefaucauld twice and love it. The spaces are huge and the whole place is very well kept and quiet, with just a short walk into the centre, with the chateau, cafes, restaurant, the river and even a chocolatier!! :)

We've also been to one that was dreadful, with no fencing around it, smashed overhead lights, unkept grass and very noisy! Apparently it was 'in the process of being upgraded'....but they still charged top whack for it!!

I guess they're like anyting else; some good, some bad. They also have a habit of not allowing / deleting negative reviews, so best to ask on here if you've got your eye on a specific one :)

One I stayed on was still being constructed
Had this to wake up to at 8.00 am
Inches from my window, hell of a racket
lasted for 40 minutes
Despite a complaint and request for a refund they wouldn't budge even though there was no mention on the app that the builders were still working
