I’m guessing that making money was the first consideration when they realised how lucrative it could be
Cynic!

Out of interest, what would have been your proposed solution to the problem?
(Leaving it as it was is not an option)

Given the cost to implement and then operate the scheme it would be very interesting to know the actual profit margin it is making.
(Assuming it is actually making a profit by now)

In people's garages locked away and tucked up until there is a car rally/show somewhere on a nice sunny day in the summer. They won't be used on a daily basis - hence the exemption from tax and other restrictions.
see above, it was corrected to 340k classic cars in total (not 340k cars per year)

Beats me why anyone would venture into an emission zone in a motorhome unless you live in such a zone.
I would circumnavigate such a zone to avoid going where I'm clearly not wanted.
The issue is that city by city the emission zones are being rolled out.
Eventually it will be town by town.

If you currently don't need to go near them, avoiding emission zones will become go from a minor occasional inconvenience to a problem.

Modern diesel engines store the harmful particulates and chuck them out in the countryside when the engine has a good run to regenerate. So is it ok to bin the dpf and drive in the city if you've paid to pollute?

If you burn the soot in a DPF, it's mostly throws out CO2, which doesn't cause air quality issues.

I lived in the LEZ area 25 years before LEZ existed and therefore long before the ULEZ was extended. What was I supposed to do?

Air pollution isn't that mobile. Most of it stays pretty local.

CO2 is a greenhouse gas. Which is a totally different issue to air quality.
Wonder how that Sahara sand gets all the way to uk. ?.BUSBY.

All the fuss about air pollution BUT our rivers canals and lakes are a national disgrace regarding pollution. BUSBY.
It is a disgrace. And a hell of a lot of pollution in our waterways is from transport and petroleum (plastic) products.

Why does it have to come down to charging, if your vehicle is not compliant with their criteria then it’s banned from the area, job sorted.

Yes, agree, so the ULEZ is fairly blatantly a cash raising exercise.
Best thing to do is if you have to go into a London emissions zone, is don't use your MH.

But why would you want to? Go to Europe where you are loved, rather than stay in UK where you are loathed.

There is much discussion on here about the need to have a Euro6 emissions motorhome.. The focus being that the increasing number of LEZ will render the use of your motorhome going forward much reduced. The popular view is this restriction will increasingly apply both in the UK and in the EU. I’m pretty sure the pre Euro6 vehicles on here at least equal the post Euro6 so it’s a substantial number.

What if there was another approach? Why can’t we campaign to get all motorhomes exempt from any current or future LEZ?

So I’m thinking motorhomes are typically:

A long term investment.
Overall a specialist vehicle which ultimately represents a low number % of UK vehicles. (? Less than vehicles exempt by age?)
Low annual mileage
Overall low emissions foot print: solar, lpg etc
Encourage an active lifestyle: walking, cycling etc
Increases tourist spending in many areas.

I’m sure there are many other reasons I’ve missed.

Is there an opportunity for MHF to start, post the General Election, a campaign via our new local MPs or a petition via the government website to get some traction?

Views?
If a trades person who may have a well maintained van that inputs big time to the economy provides a job or jobs can’t. Why would there be any concession for a minority group ? The minority group are in the main not contributing to employment in a meaning full way and is just being used for leisure. I suspect any application would swiftly be declined.

Reckon it’s a non starter (the petition not the MoHo)

Exactly, been in france over a month, very few roadworks or traffic queus, fully serviced campsites less than twenty quid, food and diesel on par or cheaper, better weather, only drawback for us is long drive north on return.

Why would there be any concession for a minority group ?
I tend to look at it from the ‘why not’ perspective. There are large areas on the UK my MH currently can’t go, even a diversion from the M25 to inside the M25 is £300 per day. That’s totally disproportionate. It won’t be long before we see other similar wider areas I’m sure. The reason a concession could be given is the very fact that we are a minority. Small concession at that, nothing to see here just grant it and move on….

Although nothing has happened in France yet, barring a slight delay to the Rouen LEZ for camping cars, I would be surprised if the legion of French Camping Caristas take this lying down! Time will tell.

I bought a motorhome to keep away from cities so I couldn't give a toss.
It’s not about cities. It’s about charging. Today inside the M25, tomorrow Greater Manchester, charges to enter Cornwall, Devon, National Parks……. My thought is shouldn’t we as a Minority Recreational Group get ourselves ahead of the curve. Shouldn’t the Government be encouraging motor homing with all of it obvious benefits to fitness, mental health, small carbon footprint…..maybe a stretch but not by much.

In effect that is what is being done.
They have chosen to do it over a period measured in in years.
And look at the furore it's causing!

Imagine they had chosen to do it either overnight, or over a period of time measured in months.
No democratically elected government would survive long

No deliveries to the shops.
No Amazon or DHL deliveries
No letter post
No school busses
No minibuses (Schools, teams, youth groups etc)
No Coach tourists
No local workmen, gas, water, electricity, phones, decorating, gardening, plumbers, roofers, etc etc.
and final nail in the coffin, a large percentage of the older cards would have to go as well, typically those owned by the poorer sections of society.

Most busses and taxis would still be OK as would richer people with more modern cars, and as from this year as the first EV delivery vans have appeared on the market some deliveries could take place. But at the moment these vans have a very small payload due to the weight of the batteries, so fine for Amazon, but it does not work for the local builder or food delivery.

Probably because that won't generate any income.
In my view it's nothing to do with pollution, it's just a cash-cow.

It's like clean electric.....do they have a separate generating and distribution system for clean electric?
No....it's all in the same system so you aren't using clean electric at all, except on paper.

Nobody has mentioned that one UK city, I think Newcastle-upon-Tyne, does exempt Motor Caravans.

So an exemption is possible.
I'm assuming that'll annoy/confuse all the people with post converted campervans that can't convince the DVLA to switch their vehicle type.
