CAMC is this taking the Mick

I guess you've both missed the "no obligation" bit ?

It costs the advertiser nothing to be entered into the Britstop guide. It costs nothing if there is space to park your van... advertisers can restrict numbers and/or days if they know they're going to be busy anyway.
They can insist on "ring ahead".

But it is simply advertising, and no advertising has a 100% strike rate.

So, yes you're expected to look at what they offer, but no obligation to buy.
Like regular parking at a garden centre for example, go in for a browse but you certainly don't have to buy a potted plant just because you parked there.

You can debate the moral imperative all you like... but the deal is... no obligation.
(y) Nope nothing missed.
ymmv on how to use Britstops
But "ethos"??

edit: ethos = "the characteristic spirit of a culture, era, or community as manifested in its attitudes and aspirations. "
So who grasped the meaning of ethos best :P :)

I guess people are different.....but out of common decency I personally wouldn’t dream of parking in a shop car park without using the store, let alone stop at a Britstops without supporting the venue.

But it takes all sorts I suppose 🙄

Do the other gyp er travel er guests not mind then John
LOL !!!
It looks like the whole weekend has now been abandoned due to the weather..
Where as we ( proper motorhomers ) could not care less about the weather, many who were going to attend have emulated snowflakes as it 'might be chilly'

and high season,
I always struggle with anything like this. In my mind it should be a reasonable price & the same throughout the year.
The wrist band toilet entry system is great if people play fair. Recently in the lakes my wife caught two woman at 0530 whilst taking dog for a pee putting their bands in the slot and going back to their tents so they had first dibs in the morning . Just wrong
regardless of what type of system they have pt in place I would always ebter to ensre that they are fll & no one is taking the p***. As they always will.

I've just looked to check for the sames dates at Hawes and CAMC come up with £101.10. as a member. Yours is a serviced pitch. Take into account the reduction in VAT that comes out to £88.46, I think. less that £30 a night. Now some will think that is too much but you have to take into account that Hawes is a popular location and the first week of September is also popular. Those comparing with a CL or similar are like comparing chalk and cheese. Compare CAMC sites with commercial sites with similar facilities.

As #allsong has said...If you book on to a fully serviced pitch and compare like for like...it is not that bad. Its also still in "peak season" too so bare that in mind too. As of the 4th ...it comes down again because of the season now being classed as Mid season.
Personally its not too bad a cost when it is actually compared like for like to any of the other sites around

As I said in my post - the moral imperative is a different debate

I missed the bit In your original post where you said it was a different debate....🙄

That is the exact opposite of the Britstop ethos...
Would you still write that after followup posts about what ethos means and direct links to Britstops' position?
nvm. It's slightly offtopic :)

I can never understand why people compare UK site prices with Europe, last time I checked they still charge for the ferry or chunnel and I’m pretty sure the fuel usage would be slightly more, oh and then there’s a thing called time that has to be used travelling.

🤷‍♂️
It's as quick for me to travel to France that it is to get to say the Highlands,,,Its not so much the cost as not being ripped off..plus of course the weather,,I don't do cold and rain. BUSBY.

OOps double post

And the ferry is free.
Of course it is,,A few nights of free aires plus the much cheaper cost of sites soon pays for ferry but if it cost me 500 pounds each way to get to the sunshine and carefree driving and camping Europe offers i would happily pay..BUSBY.

Thats great

What if France is the last place on earth I want to visit?

let them try the tip they could leave some gear there. ok.pj

Ours does :D tenner a night and a short walk to the beach and a bit further into the village. The sun is relentless here though, bring sunscreen and hats (y)
All pink curly tailed porcine`s, fuelled and ready to fly -----------Sir!!.:rofl:
We also like a fire pit in the middle, which is also ok.. It's perfect for us !
What happens when the herd of Totanka, followed by the Sioux, come charging through?.
you need a nose job and a trip to spec/savers, to hold them, how dose it go. give me sunshine, ok.pj.

Have some sympathy for those of us for whom it is no longer possible. Getting Medical cover (for Europe), now is virtually impossible, and where available costs the proverbial "arm and Leg".

We dish out the fire water and break out the peace pipe of course !
We used to have a good friend who was Sioux ( from Dakota..)
He was in the USAF and really was great company

Well, we are sitting in some late afternoon sunshine at the CAMC site in Melrose, fully serviced pitch, 5 min walk to town, site is completely full, tenters, caravanners and Motorhomes, we are paying £32 a night. In our view decent value on August Bank holiday weekend.

Reading some comments about CAMC, its a commercial world out there someone has had to buy land, landscape it put electrical posts in some pitches will also be served with water etc all of which will have cost a few £100K at least (I am guessing but its not going to be far off). Then you have staff, cleaners grounds people local business rates and heavenforbid turn a profit to re-invest
