Cambelt & Water Pump change quote from local Fiat garage today.

Mine is a 3ltr Ducato Thankfully chain driven (hope nobody proves me wrong)

Yes I did see your post and I will query it when I book it in. I suspect they will be charging full retail for the parts so if I want the job done by them that's the price I'll have to pay.
Years ago I would have shopped around for the absolute best price but I trust this company and have been using them for over 10 years.
Hi Lenny HB . I see you are getting it done in a couple of weeks. Could you make a note of the OEM part numbers they use please? One concern I have is whether the kits (Fiat or aftermarket) generally include a new bolt/bolts for idler pulleys - I seem to recall that reusing an old stretched bolt can result in failure.

I'll try and remember, getting it done by a Fiat Professional dealer. The independant I use couldn't do and Fiat dealer is cheaper.

About a 1/6 that price from my local man.. Around £250
I will pm you the number if you like.. He has looked after several Funsters over the last few years
John, could you pm me the number please, just had a quote from fiat in bury st Edmunds £650.49 for belt and check pump.
thanks.

Most kits do not contain this bolt which is why I always ask for a new one when, these days, I get it done by others!

That’s about what our local Fiat Garage is quoting (not including a service), although ours is not due for a few years. They also say it doesn’t include a water pump change as Fiat say it doesn’t recommend changing it.

I‘m not looking to start the water pump change argument again, just repeating what the Fiat Garage is telling me. (y)

Lenny HB - did you manage to get the part numbers?

This thread always amuses me as people say I got the job done for x amount but never say if a class or not and where they live.
I'm up in the Highlands so have far fewer options for work on my moho. Whereas those who live in the Midlands probably have 8 places to go all within 20 miles of where they live.
So not really comparing apples with apples.

I live in the crowded south east still had to travel over 40 miles to get mine done no one local could do an A Class.

The link states Ipswich but, if you download the link, it's shows they're based in Bury St. Edmunds?????
They are in Bury St Edmunds, and appear to really know their stuff. Was talking to the owner on Friday. Very nice knowledgeable chap.

Has anyone actually had their cambelt changed for £461? This seems a very low price for a Fiat approved specialist?

Had my A Class done a week ago at a Fiat Professional. Their price was £578 & that's an A Class, I actually got a 100 quid off that price because I'd complained about a previous job but this time they were excellant.

Thanks Lenny but it does not answer my question, this price is good and fairly 'Local' too me but a quote is just a 'quote' not the actual price paid for a good job!

You asked if anyone had their belt changed by a Fiat professional for that prix. I did.

A good price for a full genuine FIAT kit. Belt, water pump, seals, new bolt, aux belts is around £380.
Then it's a 4 hour job.

You can get cheaper kits, and without the seals abx bolts. But it's still a 4 hour job.

i always worked on the understanding that a quote is the exact price you would pay, an estimate is a rough guide on the price you would pay ......

Yes, but, a lot of people do not, in my experience, understand the difference! (y)

I love the 'genuine parts' label. There isn't a Fiat factory that knocks out cam belts. Fiat will use/recommend parts produced by an manufacturer that knocks out parts for lots of other motor manufacturers. All the bits are all the same. Fiat / Peugeot / Honda / Toyota / Nissan etc etc you'll find many are interchangeable. Otherwise, the cost of parts would be astronomical, its all 'economy of scale'.
Take body panels for example, once a car goes out of production you won't find a car plant making panels for last years model. They simply sell on the press dies to an external company to press spare parts.

Whilst I sort of agree I think you are wrong. Parts will be made either in the company itself or by a 3rd party but to a standard set by the company, bit like making baked beans for the different supermarkets, essentially the same ingredients but to a different recipe.

That by itself does not mean the standard set by Fiat, Ford et al is better than a pattern part but it upholds warranty etc.

For cars not built anymore i think they have to support by having parts available for a set amount of time and what happens now is like VW they give the presses to the likes of Seat to make a similar model themselves once they move up a model.
