C1 renewal point me in the right direction

Applied for my license renewal as 70 next month, D4drivers medical, no issues, posted last Monday, arrived back today with C1 and valid to Apr 2028. Whole process from me posting to receiving back took 7 days... Gotta be a record???

They seem to have eliminated the delays on straightforward renewals, so service is now how it should be, but it seems that the Medical Section have not caught up.

Nick’s new licence with C1 added back on arrived today. Thanks Lenny HB and someone else who said it shouldn’t be a problem. I put a covering note in as he isn’t 70 until the end of the month and had only said at the end of Jan/beg Feb that he’d give up the C1! We thought they might be confused. We had completely forgotten about it in the excitement about our 1st visit to see Claire and her husband.

One really daft thing that sums up the DVLA, he had to include a new photo as it wasn’t within the 90-56 window so we also put in a cheque for £17, we weren’t sure. Anyway they cashed the cheque last week but have sent us a cheque for £17 in a separate envelope today!

Now we can get that fancy pants swing out bike rack after our big trip to Iceland.

Update
Licence returned the woman from DVLA said I can confirm the details are correct.
  1. The dates that appear on the reverse side of your photocard licence relate to your entitlement to drive.
  2. You are required to renew this at the age of 70 and for every 3 years thereafter.
  3. Your application was processed on the 14/2/25 so therefore your licence will expire three years from that date.
1. and 2. Obviously I already knew that.
3. then she goes on to basically say the licence will not be renewed at the age of 70 but on the date they processed it.

But I'm not 70 until 24/3/25.
Therefore because I was conscientious and thought I was doing the right thing by applying in good time so there was no overlap, I'm penalised by losing over a month of my 3 year entitlement!

I thought it would work the same way the MOT works if you're within a certain time window the expiry date is preserved.
So at the moment I'm covered by two valid licences until I'm 70.
I know it's not a lot of time but if they had of dated it from my birthday it would have been easier for me to remember when it was to be renewed again, and I wouldn't have been robbed of some of my 3 year entitlement.
Update to my previous posts.
As the reply from the DVLA woman also contained an prepaid addressed envelope I thought it won't do any harm to reply again basically saying what I said above.

I didn't expect it and was considering putting in a complaint but good job I didn't because an updated licence arrived in the post last week expiry one day before my birthday so well pleased, it pays to politely let them know when you have issues!

That’s interesting, Nick did his quite late as he originally gave it up but he’s lost 3 weeks.
I’ve diarised the date but as you say it is a nuisance .
