C1 renewal point me in the right direction

Make sure you have D2 and D4 if you want to keep your C1 licence. The standard easily obtainable form is for the standard (B) licence and will not get your C1 renewed.

Don’t know why you’re all worried about renewing or losing a few months on your license I read a while back that some frigin twat of an MP down south wants people over 75 to have there entitled to drive removed . Don’t it just make you proud to live in this country

Very proud ....I'm not 75

Who are you talking about when you say they will get their way? Most of the pressure to limit older drivers seems to come from the public, the politicians are very cautious about upsetting older voters.

Read the post .to clarify it’s a young English MP that wants it but now the same one want drivers over 75 to sit a theory test again I say what a wonderful country we live when all “they” want to do is think up ways of getting money of the man in the street and reduce his quality of life

After being involved in an accident due to an elderly gentleman, I am all for checks being put in place to make sure any of us are fit to drive. After the accident his son phoned me to apologise as they had been aware of his fathers poor driving capabilities and had been trying to get him to stop. I took an accident to persuade to do so.

No one was seriously injured but could have easily been. As we get older none of us are as sharp as we think we are.

I was just wondering who your “sh*ts” were, so it is just the one MP.

Quick question - which FEE applies on the D2 - it isn't clear to me whether it is FREE or not but it does appear to be so?

Thanks

I've renewed 3 times now and not paid a fee, first time I wasn't sure so sent cheque, which was returned.

You might want to nip into Tesco's pharmacy and check your blood pressure beforehand I did and had to cancel my appointment until I got it down low enough to pass.
D4Drivers gave me a 30 day credit so it didn't cost me twice when I re-booked.

The drivers name wasn't Phillip was it...?

I am on a blood pressure tablet. Take BP fairly regularly anyway and will take three measurements on three days before the appointment

What sort of numbers spell trouble for the medical?

Along that same line, the GP I see at my annual HGV/PSV Medical, (65 and over), takes your BP as soon as you enter his surgery, knowing that many suffer from "white coat syndrome", even applicants in their thirties. :Eeek:
As a result, if the initial readings are higher than the pass rate, he advises you so reassuringly, and carries on with the rest of the medical, by the end of which, your BP has usually calmed down enough to be taken again, providing a pass result, which I think is a very reasonable and fair action on his behalf. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

D4Drivers did my eyesight test, however as a precaution I did get them tested at an opticians a few week before my medical

Look at page 5 on the D4 form, it's says it it's 180 or higher systolic or 100 diastolic you have to wait and do 2 more readings 5 mins apart then enter the best of the 3.

My wife's took four months. If you have had any medical condition such as cancer of any form they will want to write to your consultant whether it is likely to affect your ability to drive or not!!
Ninjabob does anyone know why this is the case?My C1 application took 6 months last year and I was eventually only given for a year😱
I rang DVLA worried about renewal due in May after the fiasco last year.Very surprised to get a call back from helpful person ( last year my 2 official complaints went unanswered!) and renewal forms arrived today, sent back today .Was puzzled as they enclosed a form stating I had told them I needed specially adapted vehicle , I had not and I don’t…asking me to confirm which adaptations I had had .
Once again I had to give GPs details although I have not seen GP since2023 when referred onwards for bowel cancer. There is no communication between GP and oncologist 😱, I assumed the delay last year was people working from home, mixing forms up - hoping this year will be less of an ordeal, but mainly feeling unfairly treated if this is true - cancer not on the list of issues they need to know about

Sounds like they have something wrong on their records which needs putting right. Some cancers such as primary lung cancer are on their list of notifiable conditions, particularly for Group 2 vehicles.

Well, had opticians last Thursday and medical Saturday. I had three days low BP readings before attending and then when he took BP it was sky high - like 200 over something! Filled out the form and took it again and it was OK. Thank goodness, I did explain I was stressed about passing.

Rest of medical with d4drivers almost perfunctory. Ticked the boxes and handed it back to me. In and out in less than 15 minutes. Not sure how valuable that is for DVLA if someone simply wanted to lie?

Anyway, will be posting it on Monday and fingers crossed.

I was undergoing prostate cancer treatment but it didn't cause any delay or extra paperwork. In fact the D4D doctor worked in the same local hospital trust area that i was being treated in.

I wish I'd seen this thread/post before I sent mine off 5th Feb my licence not due to expire until 23 March, just got the new one back Friday 20th issue date 14 Feb which meant expiry 14 Feb 2028 losing 1 month 22 days of the 3 year entitlement!

I'm sending it back asking them to date it from when my original one expires, you do what you think is the right thing and send it off in good time only for them to penalise you for it!

I've said to them in the letter if they can only make it valid from the date they issue it then to wait until 23 March before issuing it and sending it back to me I can wait and I'm still covered by my original in the mean time.
Update
Licence returned the woman from DVLA said I can confirm the details are correct.
  1. The dates that appear on the reverse side of your photocard licence relate to your entitlement to drive.
  2. You are required to renew this at the age of 70 and for every 3 years thereafter.
  3. Your application was processed on the 14/2/25 so therefore your licence will expire three years from that date.
1. and 2. Obviously I already knew that.
3. then she goes on to basically say the licence will not be renewed at the age of 70 but on the date they processed it.

But I'm not 70 until 24/3/25.
Therefore because I was conscientious and thought I was doing the right thing by applying in good time so there was no overlap, I'm penalised by losing over a month of my 3 year entitlement!

I thought it would work the same way the MOT works if you're within a certain time window the expiry date is preserved.
So at the moment I'm covered by two valid licences until I'm 70.
I know it's not a lot of time but if they had of dated it from my birthday it would have been easier for me to remember when it was to be renewed again, and I wouldn't have been robbed of some of my 3 year entitlement.

I know what you mean, I have lost a few weeks each time I renewed, as it's a gamble to wait until near the expiry date as DVLA are not known for their speed or efficiency so I always apply in plenty of time, and as you say renewal is from the date they issue. Mind you the first time I renewed was during covid they took a coupleof months to process the application so I gained about 4 wks that time

The DVLA do not think of you being penalised, more like they are doing you a favour by renewing on the date they process your application.
This must be a relatively "new" thing, as I renewed my HGV C+E licence every 5 years from age 45 to 65, as I needed this licence for work, the application always went in in good time and the renewal was always processed in sequence with the expiry of the existing licence.
DVLA - we have to love them🙃

75 days they got off me when I renewed! :swear2:
