C1 renewal at 70

The lady said she was a nurse and that everything was ok because she had an ink stamp from the doctor! I wouldn’t have called it a proper examination.
I guess DVLA know all about the business.
You could ring DVLA and ask for advise about not having a U.K. GP. They must have come across it before.
So from what @nicholsong says I can put the French Doctor's address, it is only necessary if they have to check up on a medical problem except that after March 29th we may not be in the EU so it may have all changed. OH well, we shall see?
Steve

Puddlequack, the current DVLA requirements are that the Doctor has to be qualified in the EU.

I have had my last two D4s done in Poland, with no problems. (Choose one like ours who comes to dinner regularly;))

Even after 29th March I doubt whether the DVLA will change quickly.

The D4 form is valid for 4 months from date of signing, but you cannot submit renewal application more than 3 months before renewal - although I cannot see why one cannot request renewal a month early and just forego a month's entitlement.

Geoff
Hi Geoff,
So do you put your Polish doctors address on the D4 on the last page?
Steve

I am sorry I do not understand your question, as I have just looked at the D4 form and the last page (8) is 'Applicant's Declaration', with name and address, but nothing about the Doctor, other than authorising them to contact the doctor(s)

Obviously elsewhere my doctor has signed and stamped the form with her stamp on it. This is not some back-street surgery - she recently opened a new clinic complex with 6 consulting rooms, physio, several nurses with ECG qualifications, 2 receptionsts, visiting Consultants. She also does research work and travels extensively to conferences.

I used to drive for the NHS moving patients' records around and probably visited 150 surgeries in London and Home Counties and did not see one as well set-up as this clinic complex.

Hi Geoff,
I wasn't questioning the quality of your Polish doctor at all. We use the French Health system as "we" believe it is superior to anything we found in the UK I am sure you find the same in Poland.
But on the back page of the D4 that I have it has a box "About your doctor/group practice" did DVLA accept your overseas doctors address OK, if so then I can obviously use my French one.
I just don't want to get my form rejected which is why I am choosing to get the medical with "Doctors on Wheels" my doctors English I doubt is up to getting the D4 filled in correctly.
Steve

I no longer have a copy of my form but I am pretty sure it had tick boxes for the categories I wanted to retain. It was relatively easy to fill in.

Tthe reason I detailed my Doctor's clinic set-up is because you asked whether her address was declared on the form. Why should it not be? So I supposed you thought we might be hiding something.

Anyway we seem to be talking at cross purposes as regards to which page we are referring to, as the D4 download I have in front of me, on which the last page is page 8, does not to appear to relate to your comment about a box as emboldened above. I do not see that box.

If you look at page 7 of D4 in box 10, the doctor has to sign that he/she is medically registered in the EU if the examination was undertaken outside the UK, and has to affix their stamp below the signature.

As far as I can see the Applicant does not have to give any information about the doctor as the doctor has done that.

Hi Geoff,
Yes we are at cross purposes, I have just downloaded the form and it is completely different to the one sent to me by DVLA last year.
Page 1 is completely different.
Section 3 Psychiatric Illness has become Section 4 and lots of other changes including the omission of the part on my form asking for GP details. So I can see why you were confused.
So I had better get them to send me another D2 form which cannot be downloaded because of the sticky photo part.
Thanks for your help.

I am glad we have got that sorted out - it is not comfortable to have different views on facts. I had been double-checking(twice) in case I was losing (more) of my marbles.;)

Hi Geoff,
I know what you mean, looking at a bit of paper and saying; how much has this guy had to drink? Only to find that you are the idiot looking at an out of date form....... But, the upshot is, things are not as bad as they were, now with the new form.

Letter from DVLA yesterday stating I had 14 days to make an appointment to have a "Field eyesight test" talk about spoiling my day (hardly slept last night with worry) They have a contract with Specsavers and they gave me a list of 3 in my area. Phoned nearest in Hexham and managed to get an appointment this morning. The DVLA pay for the test travelling expenses are at my cost. So a 20 mile drive this morning, peripheral test you get 3 attempts at, managed 99% on my first so off to a good start, Snellen test and managed that no problem, Optician stated I was above minimum standard required. Of course its not her decision test results emailed to the DVLA and I am now at their mercy, worried is an understatement, I am guessing this is the normal when C1 refused because of spectacle lens prescription and not something darker.

I had cataracts, which where removed and I now have implants. At the last renewal the DVLA removed the (code 100? Spectacles required) from my licence. Not bad for a 75 year old who wore glasses from age 10!. So I applied to the RAF, but they say I am too old to fly fast jets (shit!). So long as I can keep my BP down I should get my C1 renewed (fingers crossed). Being OLD is crap!. What we need is crowd funding to sue the Government for raging ageism!

I am glad something fruitful came out of exchange of posts and that it was not some 'argey-bargey'.

I agree it is a pain to have to wait for the D2 form but I understand DVLA's reason re the stick-on photo bit.

Well after 2 weeks of anxiety and stress all caused by the shambolic way the DVLA have handled this yesterday I received my license without the C1 entitlement and horror it was dated 19th January not my birthdate mid February. Straight onto the phone what a performance 4 departments before I could get an answer from someone who seemed to know what they were talking about. My question was as I submitted my V5 filled out as requested to downplate to 3500kgs as it came out of the factory along with all the paperwork, weighbridge certificate etc mid January could I still drive my van, answer was a definite no, not allowed on a public highway, I had half heartedly hoped after submitting all this I would be allowed to drive it. It is not even showing up on their system yet so is in a queue for processing (I sent it signed for next day delivery and have checked and yes it was received 16th Jan at 07.09hrs) I have to call back in two weeks if I don't hear anything.
This morning I get another letter from them informing me "From the information we have received you satisfy the medical standards your license will be sent shortly blah blah"
Its a blow we had booked a non refundable rally from today on a campsite plus a burns supper Saturday returning home Monday. Thats £70 down the pan.
I am now getting paranoid everytime I see a DVLA letter on the door mat, what a way to run a business (that's what it is) Rant over.

just had notification that I will be getting my C1 back - shortly, Yippee! Just had to confirm by letter that I will have regular checks on my pacemaker, which I do anyway, so now I can think about driving the 4 tonne van That I bought recently on the off chance. Took a bit of a risk, but what the hell, you only live once!

So do you have the C1 again or not? If you do I would be tempted to tell them to stuff the downplating :)

I am waiting for the d2 form to come from DVLA and off to get medical fingers crossed:):):)

No C1 Helen and to cap it all after a day at Carlisle came home to find another letter from them containing a new logbook still showing weight at 3850kg no correspondence just a log book. I will be spending another morning on the phone to them tomorrow, looking forward to that.

Grrrrrrrrrrr get your MP involved. Then ask him or her to take it to the Parliamentary Ombudsman.

That’s an option Helen, we are becoming increasingly concerned by all the shenanigans of the DVLA and the delays we have a ferry booked and paid for to Santander in March.

Once my MP was involved my licence was sorted within a couple of weeks. Even the threat of The Ombudsman appears to make them sort out an extra gear.

A bit premature, after the pacemaker letter I get a letter saying that they (DVLA) are still waiting to hear from the consultant who oversees my medical history! They wrote to him on 26th November, so I rang his secretary on Jan 29th, she said he had several of these forms on his desk but was too busy to deal with them. Several more calls, (I wasn't allowed to speak to him personally and he wouldn't give me an appointment she said), with mention of a follow up complaint to the NHS ombudsman, and hey presto, she sent them off on Feb 6th! That's one step further, it's now back in the DVLA's court, fingers crossed.......

Helen did you write to your mp or use email?

Sorry Stewart, I've only just seen your question.

I went to see my MP as he had a local surgery but after that it was an email from me to confirm the information and as he got his teeth into it he phoned me with updates followed by traditional letters confirming the telephone call.

dreading November, you can apply 3 months before due date, John got his 3 years ago after a bit of a faff, rules re sleep apnoea had changed, need a GP check up yearly, consultant one is no longer good enough!!!
My first is due 3 days after his, have controlled hypertension and need glasses for driving. Had my eyetest recently and was told it has barely changed in 4 years and that I passed everything to enable me to keep my licence. But anything could happen between now and then. One funster gave me an email adress for when we were having problems, unfortunatly can't find it and 3 years is a long time person has probably retire.

further update, had letter from DVLA saying they had all reports from consultant etc, now sending info to their own doctors for consideration, and so the saga goes on, might hear something in a month or so..... the thing is, I reckon for my age (74) I am fitter than most, dogs see to that!

Me too, walk the dog, play golf every week (on foot not a buggy and a hilly course), attend Pilates, just spent the day with 2 grandsons 7 and 4 !! (That was worse than any of the above )

I’m still waiting since my application last June, :(

I'm reasonable fit, out swing dancing 2 - 3 times a week, walk daughter's dog a few miles several times a week. But can't get my blood pressure under control won't pass the medical at the moment. If I can't get it down by next year it will be an excuse for a new van.

All I need is a well kitted out decent German van 3500 kg with a payload of 1000 kg, shouldn't be hard to find.

Surely it must be time for intervention from your MP Annie?

Shout when you find it please Lenny, and I'll get shot of our tandem axle job, and will willingly let go of my C1 in 9 x years time. ;)

Cheers,

Jock. :)
