C and MC opening sites 1st July?

That's stupid, those pitches are pure gold right now, ten times or nothing.
Only tripled will drag the poor gullible punters clientele in, Brian. Where Eddie will make his real money is as per my earlier post with all the on costs including metered essentials, extra charge for walking on the grass, another for walking on the gravel, metered dog walks and also the coin slot on the gate to actually get out of the site.

E up peeps sorry to sound thick but what is C CM and CL
I take its a camp site of some sort.

Pure genius, I prostrate myself before you.

Me too. Easy to distance. Obedient users in the main. Out of busy locations. Good for mental health. I’ll be straight in.

As long as people are not travelling a long way to get to where they have booked.

I'm not sure how it could be done but maybe holidaymakers would need to only travel (say) 50 miles from home to minimise a second peak (which I think we will have anyway).

CMC is the Caravan club ( with the added Motorhome, which they recently added to the name)
CL’s are the small 5 van sites.
The other main club is CCC, camping and caravan club and their 5 van sites are called CS’s

CMC = Caravan & Motrohome Club

CL = Certified location, these sites are affiliated with CMC but have a limit of 5 pitches

So you get to the site, pitch up and then?? No pubs, no restaurants and visitor attractions severely limited in what they can offer. Don’t get me wrong as I’m panting to get away but not just to sit on a pitch and gloat that I managed to be there! The world will have changed when we’re allowed out again.

With car on back with “not illegal” a frame , time to drive and picnic so would not be confined to pitch .

I reckon sites will be one of the first things back, certainly long before bars, restaurants hotels etc

And no reason why not if your S C

No different walking around to going to the supermarket or daily exercise

Thanks manic for clearing that up for me.
Just had a quick look I do find it hard to navigate both of them.
Don't shoot me down a mate told me to use pickup.com
I find it so easy to navigate and have used them three or four times now.

I misread that as "we have a cook onboard to eat".

... Specsavers ...
I suppose I do have, my wife has been having a renaissance in her cooking as a result of the lockdown which I have to say I have found very enjoyable, in fact so much so that it may change our eating out habits. That said when we go away it is as much her holiday as mine hence we go out to eat a lot.

I’m not really sure this matters that much in comparison to using buses trains and planes. Get in van then get out at the site. Zero risk for extra miles unless everyone is calling at motorway services which we wouldn’t anyway. Same distanced dog walking as at home and a few distanced beers on the pitch. Far far less risk than going to work for me and others.

Maybe when you factor in the use campsite facilities one might think again no matter what size or type of campsite it is.
Going to a campsite is hardly an essential journey.

The issue is the travel. The sites could open even with closed facilities but will folk in Cornwall be happy with an influx of visitors? They may go to the site but they will visit local shops.

No one knows of course, it might happen but I'm not holding my breath or planning on it.

In the campsite advert section at the back I am sure one of the Devon sites says it is now taking bookings for arrivals from 1st JUNE onwards...........they obviously have their own crystal ball ?

My shielding letter states 6th June at the earliest for restrictions to be lifted for vulnerable people.

Yes but we’re not talking about now, but a theoretical future when those “essential” restrictions are slackened. I’m not saying I’d go now. Far from it.

It says in the mag subject to gov advice so have to wait and see. The Spanish restrictions that look possible include no travel outside the area which would help control people just heading off into the hills with no pitch booked.

why would somebody heading into the hills be anymore if a risk than lots of people Together on one site
if they are following the same government advice

We did the NC500 last year. Never went in a pub or restaurant. The free visitor attractions were superb.
I don't think any of our motorhomes would be welcome for quite a while yet.

the Scots are the first to moan about traffic on the NC500 as they take your money & they will be the first to moan when you are not there & they ain’t got any money coming in

I think sites will open with either closed toilet blocks or some sort of queing system.

I think CMC will just keep the shower blocks closed. Most caravans and MH's have their own facilities but the tents and VW buses might have a problem.

One issue of concern for CMC is the demographics of those that use them. A lot of people on these sites are older and then you have the families (like me) with a young critter or two... or three.

The reports regarding the inability for children under 10 to transmit the virus is encouranging but last I heard this has not been confirmed as 100% true.

This would be great as my son is 4 and is still cute but once kids get to around 10, they lose all cuteness and just become noisy, ignorant pain in the arses..... so we can have people only with kids under 10.

My son knows all about the virus, knows why we are locked down and why he cannot see his granparents.

He even understands why the 2 metre rule exists and can pace out 2m eaily but he then runs around when we take him out oblivious to it so I think expecting young kids to social distance is going to be almost impossible.

I can see sites opening sooner its just comon sense, take a pair of gloves to shower/toilet blocks minimum amount of people in at one time masks maybe,As for traveling along way shouldn't make any difference if carefull,I had to travel through 2/3 county's this week for work and i guess quite a few people do the same its all about being carefull and mindfull to other's which i think most are doing ! look how far we've come in a month and a bit another month or so i think we will be ok none of the hospitals are overloaded,in the mean time stay safe

Even if sites open and are able to allow people to continue with social distancing there's no way on earth the toilet/shower blocks can be opened without risk ... it's not about distancing in them but the fact that people will be touching the surfaces, doors etc which may spread the virus ... there's no way to avoid this short of cleaning them every time they've been used by someone.

I'm hoping that there is a relaxation so that our lodges can start to have visitors again as they are easy for people to social distance from other units with no need to be in contact with anyone, or touch stuff that hasn't been cleaned between lettings. Fortunately those that use them tend to want a quiet break so other than a drive to the coast etc they are more likely to just enjoy the peace and quiet and go for walks.
In some shower blocks I’ve been to (especially the 2 star French fishing ones) I try not to touch any walls or handles....or even floor....just do that.
