Buying British - Is it being a true patriot or a fool?

Who said I wanted sympathy,
You did in your post #38   .................... Do try to remember what you said a couple of hours ago.
I posted this in order that some people would sympathise with me for being such a fool to buy British,

You are 100% right, but that was tongue in cheek, I made my bed and am now lying it it, its very comfortable but still couple of lumps to sort out!

So full apologies from me for not clarifying (y)

LOL Book us for the next one, we have a waiting list :winky:
And I suspect you will continue to have a long waiting list every time he asks .......................... :D:D

Amazingly I am beginning to have a bit of sympathy for Lowdhams and Swift !!!!!!!!!!!!

I am rapidly coming to the conclusion that all of your posts are ..............................

I have bought a luxury cover for the motorhome and it is now all tucked up for winter, but I may use it at Christmas to give it a run ?‍♂️ ?

Seeing you are in Kent, WHERE have you got it all tucked up for the winter ?
We are looking for somewhere off the A2/M2 to park our new Hymer (6.74m long)

Its tucked up on my drive, my old motorhome was bought by someone who doesn't want it until March next year so he wanted to find a place to put it, he struggled as all had waiting lists but he did strike lucky and got a place in a storage in a place called Westerham, Kent, its right next to the M25, the motorhome is there now, when he called them they had 120 people on the waiting list, I know its unbelievable, someone had just cancelled theirs and they had emailed the full list, it was a week later and they had just had a few replies from people saying they had sold or found somewhere else, others hadn't replied so they accepted him there and then, he paid up front until March 2020. From his experience I think you will struggle but just keep trying you might strike lucky like him.

I guess it’s a bit like being married then having an affair, it’s not until then you realise what you have been missing I guess ?
And the wife gratefully seizes the opportunity to get shot of a tedious hubby.

If it's not Yorkshire tea I won't drink it.
Whilst I was on business having breakfast in a hotel in Florence the waiter asked the American guy on the next table if he wanted tea or coffee. "Tea" he grunted. "You wanna dee Indian or dee China tea?" the waiter enquired. "Dammit" replied the American, "We want English tea".
I nearly choked.

Stop it. The teas are a blend. A blend of teas from around the world. Yorkshire tea, blended by ENGLISH men and women to perfection. It's as English as I am. It's ENGLISH TEA :D .

I try to buy British when I can, I bought a British brand of motorhome and quite frankly after seeing German models it was really an act of charity giving this manufacturer my money for the sake of the industry and country, but how loyal can you be, can you be too loyal and forgiving for lack of quality?

I take all my own BRITISH meat and as much BRITISH food and BRITISH beer and wine to France when I go for 6 weeks in the summer, my plan is to spend as little as possible in France and to eat known food and drink real beer.

How do you support Britain and British industry?
Went to the Wedgewood experience last week and all the Wedgewood in their gift shop was made in China or Indonesia - go figure!! Whats more British than Wedgewood (or so I thought)

When buying something like a Motorhome my first priority would be reliability and quality. You can't tell if something has been made in GB. All the components are generally sourced from abroad.
One thing I wouldn't buy though is something on Fiat, Citroen or Peugeot base. Reliability is rubbish. They are designed to sit on your drive and be used once or twice a year.

Actually they are designed to be thrashed on a daily basis by Bobbet the Builder and Fred the Florist! seven days a week!

You could equally say that Mercs handle like a boat, wobbling around all over the place and Fords are such a security risk as to be a joke!

Well my Bailey is made from a French owned but Italian built cab, it has a Truma heater and a dometic fridge, it’s on alko chassis, the laminate walls and roof are German. Which just about sounds like every other motorhome that you buy.
The difference is mine cost £42k new. Whereas those foreign ones built with exactly the same bits cost another £15k. Obviously that foreign glue is so much better.

Yorkshire does not grow tea
That’s where you are wrong me old fruit.
Yorkshire tea is grown in the Howardian Hills, in secret locations.
We have to keep the locations secret because of greedy southerners and nosey Lancastrians.:D

Who says it has to. So one of our most famous brands say JCB, buys metal from China to make its iconic machines, but according to you..because most every raw material is sourced from outside the country, it's not British. '\ Yorkshire Tea is as British as JCB See this post (y)

Has your opinion taken into account the majority of those vehicle have bee designed to run as commercial vans ans probaly get retired at 150,000 miles?

On the contrary, they are designed to do 150k - 250k miles and the majority do that, some do double that. Looking to buy one for my son not long ago, so many of them well over 100k and still being used daily.

I live in France. You don't see Maurice or Pier the builder or Artisan using them over here. They go for Renaults or Mercs. The companies that do use Citroen, Peugeot or Fiat get them heavily discounted. I spoke with a guy who runs a fleet of 35 Citroens. Not one of his vans made it to fifty thousand kilometers without a major problem. He recently changed the fleet again to the new Citroen Blue engines. Same problems. When I asked him why he didn't change he replied the discounts were to good. We ran a fleet of Merc's we sold one a year ago with 860.000 kilometers on it and its still going strong. We changed rear wheel bearings, Starter motor. Water pump and a couple of sensors. Otherwise it was fine.
In the beginning the Polish drivers were using Fiat. They soon changed to Renault's
