Buying British - Is it being a true patriot or a fool?

I can’t give up my Spanish onions But I do love Kentish strawberries.

i wrote a 2015 (I ordered it when I found out Toyota were stopping importing the V8 Amazon) and wrote it off last Summer

We replaced it with a 2019 Invincible which whilst being under powered, is, technically years beyond the Amazon sadly.

I still think anything less than V10 sadly lacking so it’s immaterial

I have added a tuning box to mine and the performance is like the difference between night and day, this is the box you need (check you NM), go for the bluetooth option and instead of having the choice of 7 hp choices on the unit under the bonnet you will have an App on your phone that you can change remotely even while driving. The fitting takes 5 mins and it can be removed without trace at any time, it is hidden under the engine cover so not on show. Trust me you will be driving a different vehicle! These guys export all around the world, I'm sure you could do a deal with them to try one out ;)

I have heard they totally transform the Ducato 2.3 130 and 150 engines as well!

PG, when they sweep up in Yorkshire tea houses they send that to PG (y) :D
Lol, but on a serious note, products are produced from all corners of the earth to say a product is just British is a nonsense. In this global economy we are all interconnected whether it is designed here and made in China or elsewhere, without JCB having access to products and services from around the world they could not build the products they make. We are all reliant on each other....globally. So your Yorkshire Tea is not possible without foreign components.

To be fair, only a minority of Europeans apply the method you describe: Hymer, Carthago, Eura-Mobil and all the super-expensive ones. Probably one or two I don't know.

But Dethleffs and Bürstner for example, use electric elements to prevent the waste water tank from freezing. Carado does not even offer heating of said waste water tank. Adria is no good either. Hobby goes the electric way for most of its models. Most French are just as laughable on that regard.

My Adria also has heating element inside the waste water tank and fresh water stored inside.

Charity begins at home but what is British these days, Iconic Mini is German, Aston Martin is owned by Ford etc.. Vauxhall is General Motors. Buying an inferior quality product is not doing them any favours, they need to be persuaded to up their game! Buy what suits you best then when travelling you can support the local economy. Travelling here we buy Welsh Lamb, Scottish beef (and whisky!), in France of course cheese, wine and coffee!
From someone old enough to know better, young enough (at heart) not to care.

Just to be pedantic Aston Martin is a British independent manufacturer of luxury sports cars and grand tourers and Vauxhall/ Opel is owned by the French PSA group.

Its Funny Money

2012–present: Investindustrial Stakeholding and The Palmer Era
Italian private equity fund Investindustrial signed a deal on 6 December 2012 to buy a 37.5% stake in Aston Martin, investing £150 million as a capital increase.[75][76][77][78] This was confirmed by Aston Martin in a press release on 7 December 2012.[79] In April 2013, it was reported that Dr, Ulrich Bez would be leaving his role as the Chief Executive Officer to take up a more ambassadorial position[80] widely seen as the first move by the new shareholders in reviewing the leadership and strategy of Aston Martin. On 2 September 2014, Aston Martin announced it had appointed the Nissan executive Andy Palmer as the new CEO[81] with Ulrich Bez retaining a position as non-executive chairman. As sales had been declining from 2015, Aston Martin sought new customers (particularly wealthy female buyers) with introducing concept cars like the DBX SUV along with track focused cars like the Vulcan.[82][83] According to Palmer, the troubles started when sales of the DB9 failed to generate sufficient fund to develop next-generation models which led to a downward spiral of declining sales and profitability.[16]

In 2014, Aston Martin suffered a pre-tax loss of £72 million, almost triple of the amount of 2013 selling 3,500 cars during the year, well below the 7,300 cars sold in 2007 and 4,200 sold in 2013 respectively.[84] In March 2014, Aston Martin issued "payment in kind" notes of US$165 million, at 10.25% interest, in addition to the £304 million of senior secured notes at 9.25% issued in 2011.[84] Aston Martin also had to secure an additional investment of £200 million from its shareholders to fund development of new models.[84] It was reported that Aston Martin's pre-tax losses for 2016 increased by 27% to £162.8 million, the sixth year it continued to suffer a loss.[85]

Aston Martin returned to profit in 2017 after selling over 5,000 cars. The company made a pre-tax profit of £87 million compared with a £163 million loss in 2016.[86] In June 2019, Aston Martin opened its new 90-acre factory in St. Athan for the production of its upcoming SUV, the DBX, and two new models under the Lagonda marque.[87]

Its the same with Caterham cars, its owned by Tony Fernandes,

Lotus is owned by Geely

As I said earlier without Global connections, Global resources none of these would be 'British' so buying these 'British' cars you are buying in to a global supply chain of parts and materials from across the world.

I had an LC5 from new in about 2006 and loved it.

Then I stopped jet skiing and thought I would go back to a car. The wife was disgusted she loved the Land Cruiser.

Now I can’t afford another.

They are fantastic.

.

Double your fee rate and then offer a 25% discount. Works for City Solicitors - except they do not offer the discount. :D2

They were charging my work out at £150 ph - that was in the mid-'80s. So when I was doing self-employed legal work for Financial Services firms in the '90s I charged £50 and told them they were getting a bargain.

I try not to buy anything.Simples. Most of what people buy, they don’t need. It’s just to make them feel good. Retail therapy. People fill their houses, motorhomes, cars, cupboards ...with “stuff” 80% not needed.
About 25% of the food people buy gets wasted, then they complain about the cost of food. Then they wonder why they’re so bloody fat...it’s because they’re buying too much.
Cost of living going up....stop buying so much crap you don’t need.
I feel better now. Thanks.;);):LOL::LOL:

Whilst VanBitz has a very good reputation for fitting alarms etc. if I come to use your services I think I will not be leaving the keys with you, after seeing that pic.

Which means you effectively need EHU to keep the waste water tank from freezing.
On the Swift motorhome the heater ONLY works on the leisure battery, so if you left it on your batteries would go flat, I guess that is why you state EHU to keep batteries charged (y)

Chris wish I knew you on 1988 when I got knicked for speeding on the river Adur. I did represent myself but lossed I cant afford a LC either im still paying my Jet Ski repair bills lol

If the only choice was a British built motorhome then I wouldn’t bother and I’d buy a home in Germany for my breaks.

Thanks you make my point for me. Regardless of the origin of the tea it’s sourcing and blending it that matters. Who cares where JCB steel comes from. The end result is a British product. Be proud yy

We need to import so that we can export. Personally I buy whatever is value for my hard earned cash.

Ok so how many cars are manufactured in the uk now?

You have to hand it to Tata letting the imperial nation believe they still own Jaguar, brilliant marketing, Jaguar has not been a British owned company since 1990.

"In 1990 Ford acquired Jaguar Cars and it remained in their ownership, joined in 2000 by Land Rover, till 2008. Ford then sold both Jaguar and Land Rover to Tata Motors. Tata created Jaguar Land Rover as a subsidiary holding company. At operating company level, in 2013 Jaguar Cars was merged with Land Rover to form Jaguar Land Rover Limited as the single design, manufacture, sales company and brand owner for both Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles".

Its just a cup of tea ! the products come from Africa and India imported (I am told to Yorkshire and mixed) So Does 'making' a cup of tea in France make it French Tea? a Child can make a cup of tea not sure I can be that proud. Taste just like how something is 'made' somewhere is subjective :)

Aren’t cars now assembled in Britain as opposed to manufactured? Component parts and sub assemblies come from all over the world.
Spot on which is why we interdependent on other countries and should be proud of that interworking.

Yes which is why they can put it together anywhere.....hence the after b day threat.

:Eeek:Just a cup of tea!!! you heathen.

We are talking about the special skills of blending teas from all over the world, not pouring tepid water into a cup in a France  :D

That’s correct. Brit manufacturer’s seem to struggle to understand the practicalities of all season [Edit: and off grid] motorhoming.

On that point I have to contest as my hymer truma heating works only on gas and 12v also. No benefit hooking up other than charging batteries ...still uses gas to work

Water heater works independently but that's it

Thanks. Your response has prompted me to edit my post.
