We are due to travel out of Plymouth on 5th April.

Brittany ferries offered me a transfer or refund. I selected a refund and they have sent me an email.

In the email, attached portion of breakdown there is a cancellation charge. Seems they are not refunding me. I will now have to contact my card company

Dont understand that, if they cancelled it, surely you can choose to either move it, voucher or fefund.
Ours on 24th March was obviously cancelled, we never heard from them direct, but received an email saying as much and attaching a travel voucher!
Ive already logged a web form telling them no, not acceptable, want refund and compo for extra mileage to Calais.
 
I had a similar issue cancelling a booking online. On the screen I accepted there was a cancellation charge, which was the deposit paid, but it said the balance would be refunded. Like you the PDF invoice showed the cancellation charge was 100%. This did not happen for the return journey, booked under their new ticket system.
The difference between the two tickets is they had already taken the balance for the outward journey.
I've sent them an email but am not expecting a quick answer. All their staff are very busy with the fallout from cancelling sailings.

And I know I could have rescheduled the journey for free but I can't see us getting to Europe this year so just wanted to clear the decks so to speak. I wouldn't have cancelled if I'd known I had to pay the full price. Kicking myself for not taking a screenshot!
 
Hi. FWIW, My cancellation invoice from Brittany ferries doesn’t show a cancellation charge- so worth checking to see if clerical error....

that said, no £ received yet, but not quite been a week yet....

If everybody claims compensation as well as refunds i wonder if BF will still be in existence at the end of this!

These cancellations are not the fault of BF, I think airlines would not offer compensation above the cost of the flight under the circumstances but stand to be corrected.

Nor the fault of the individuals. Supposed to just suck it up? Fuel, tolls and tunnel have probably cost over £400. Let alone extra wear and tear, not only on the motorhome either!

I am in exactly the same situation as you, they said I would get a refund not a voucher and yet I have had the same email and no refund. I have emailed them but don’t expect to receive a reply anytime soon. What are you going to say to your card company?
 
I got a full refund from NorthLink ferries earlier this week, no questions and no hint of a cancellation fee. If a small company like that can do it without a fee, I’m sure Brittany could.

Strange that, everybody tells me it is much cheaper driving through France and using the short Channel crossings.

after the refund it hadn’t cost you much at all surely

Sod the wear and tear bit, yes it is time to suck it up ?, move on to something worth get excited about

Well for info, 2 fill ups of the tank @ over €1.50 lt in France, when the current exchange rate is shot is over £150. Ferry, including dog, £157, tolls as took all major routes through France for speed was over £100 ( class 3).
If I was having a leisurely stroll through and avoiding the toll roads and could pick a more cost effective tunnel, then maybe.

How much was the BF crossing?

Presumably you will get a refund!

Don't think they will be going bust anytime soon as they are still carrying freight, unlike the airlines

as I understand it, if you cancel then you lose part or all of the money paid ( their t&c)

if they cancel they offer a voucher to be used on a future crossing

if you amend the crossing (giving them the future times and dates) they refund the whole cost , then recharge the future crossing

this is all assuming you keep to the same ports, if you change ports then obviously you pick up the travel costs

Claim on your travel insurance,,that's what it's for.BUSBY.
 
On a separate thread I've put it to them that they should lengthen
the Club Voyage scheme on a rolling month by month basis for
every month they cannot provide ferries.
At the mo. the ferries are not running until 13th April but I can see that being
extended to the end of April.

I cannot get through to American Express, So I have gone online and disputed the amounts. Trouble is, its complicated as I change bookings a lot and have numerous different crossings booked. All close together with different Vehicles.

So, as an Example, we were driving out on the 5/4/20 in Motorhome, returning in our car 2 weeks later.

All a bit of a mess, lets see.

Means now I have disputed it, BF have until 15/5 to sort it out and I do not have to pay any of the amounts.

Hi TeeMyob we were booked on the same crossing and have exactly the same email implying the cancellation fee matches the total cost. We had a separate email though saying we'd be refunded in full to our card so I'm hoping it's some sort of computer error. If the money is not there in the next few days (they said it can take up to 7 days) I'll be raising a Section 75 claim with the credit card company.

Just had an email from BF saying the invoice was "misleading" and they would be issuing a refund in the form of a voucher.

Does this mean they give you a voucher to use in future and not a cash refund?

May seem a stupid question by my Brother had a Wizz Air flight to Cyprus cancelled and they sent him a voucher but the voucher was 20% more than the cost of the flight.
He could use the voucher for another flight in the next 12 or 18 months (can't remember) or take the refund value which was the cost of the flights.

I've only used BF a couple of times with no issues so never has to have a refund. I have a trip booked to Spain end of July but a voucher for future use is not much use to me as we already have plans for next year which does not included a ferry.
 
Possibly a play on words, but if they offered you a REFUND or a voucher, then is a refund a cancellation??

Dunno.

That's why I wondered what others will get or what other have in the past. They have to cancel quite a lot of ferries due to weather and I hear of people getting a full refund and compo for Fuel/tolls to drive through France.
Hopefully by the end of July it will be under control and we can still go ahead with the trip but my the end of May I have to pay the remainder of the balance and its over £1200. I'd rather biff paying that and the argue the deposit refund with them or Insurance/Credit Card company than have a voucher for the full £1800 which I won't use.
 
Had the same thoughts when my cancellation charge amounted to the total paid.
A couple of emails to BF resulted in vouchers for full amount, spit by deposit & final payment.
Would have preferred a cash refund but vouchers are valid for 2 years & we will be travelling across the channel again as soon as we can.

Hi Thanks for the info. Yes, voucher not much use to me as we have no free time next year to use the voucher. I'll speak to CC company nearer the time if its cancelled to see what they can do.
