Brittany Ferries Refund

Hi There this was written 5 days ago on Trust Pilot.

Further to my last review I contacted ABTA and in the letter it stated - "I can confirm that ABTA is not seeking changes to EU1177/20, and that the current legal position is that where a ferry crossing is cancelled, as in this instance, in accordance with Article 18 of the EU Regulations, the ferry company is obliged to offer you the choice of either rerouting (if available) or a refund of your monies. Vouchers can be used instead of a refund but only where the customer agrees to reimbursement in this form." it goes on further and states "If you have rejected the voucher and they are refusing to provide you with a refund, you can pursue your claim through the small claims track in the County Court or through independent arbitration"

BF customer representative (Fiona) told me yesterday that ONLY holidays are covered by ABTA and not ferries.

0/04/2020, 03:19:18 PM MarkK : Ah OK will the voucher be a full RCN which is backed by ABTA and refundable in the end?

30/04/2020, 03:20:19 PM Fiona : Only inclusive holidays are covered by ABTA not ferry only travel.
30/04/2020, 03:21:40 PM MarkK : Oh. I thought everythihg was covered by ABTA.

30/04/2020, 03:22:23 PM Fiona : No holiday packages only

Abta cover "Packages"

If you booked two elements of a holiday ie travel and accommodation with one organisation. in this case say , ferry and campsite with BF then you would be covered.
If you booked the ferry and campsite separately then you wouldn't be covered.

I'm quite sure that if the ferry/tunnel/airline operators refunded everyone they'd quickly go bust (and all vouchers or credit will become valueless) since they have already spent much of the pre-paid fares or are committed to contracts. At least one ferry company is seeking funding from the Gov't since without leisure customers they say they cannot survive to carry commercial traffic upon which much of our food supply depends.

best we dont buy eu food or goods though.
get fresh food from africa and other places . hopefully soon the ferry to morocco from uk might get working.

Spoke to friends today they had two crossings cancelled back from Spain to Portsmouth, he finally got his refund today, he said it took a lot of discussions and he couldn't believe how nasty they were. ? Bob.
