Because, under the provisions of the customs union and single market, free passage of goods between all member states was allowed, providing the relevant tax was paid in the country of purchase. Hence, only an idiot would buy a van load of beer in Sweden but Estonia was a whole other ball game. Even then, I recall HMRC trying to clip our wings with 'reasonable personal use' argued. Goodness knows what our cash strapped bunch of fraudsters will wish to impose on us in the way of duties.....even assuming we can ever leave our glorious sovereign nation again.I thought “duty free”finished years ago it’s not been duty free for quite a few years now, when duty free ended we were allowed to fetch virtually as much as we liked as long as it was for personal use, I don’t really see why brexit should change that.
