Boxed wine( Bag in a Box) at Cite Europe and Spain

I wouldn't bother with Carrefour at Citi Europe wine is expensive there.
Lidl's Merlot at about €7 for 3 Lt is pretty good.
A very good one is Led Ormes de Cambras most supermarkets sell it but only seen boxes in SuperU, 5lt €12-€15. Brought it back in bottles for both our daughters weddings, yet to meet anyone who doesn't like it.

The lady owner of one of our local bodegas in Spain told us that the wine is bottled up to their bottling limit and then the rest can be put into boxes. The same wine CAN be bought in bottles at her shop!

5 litres of very drinkable red wine is around €8 (y)
We've had decent very drinkable wine sold & decanted into plastic 5 litre containers from the Bodega at Mazarron as recommended by Jumartoo! ??

We've been pleasantly surprised at how good much of the cheaper wine is in France, Spain, and Portugal. This is going to sound like another of those conspiracy theories, but I'm convinced they send all of their crap to the UK

In my extensive and intensive dedicated research over many years I have come to the conclusion that there is no such thing as a bad wine; it is just that some are better than others ........................

The only exception to that rule is Retsina, which is only fit for putting in engines ...........
Totally disagree now that creosote is no longer legal for fences!!!

Just a matter of being informed
Tend to disagree. We both have a (not very high) qualification in wine and regularly attend a wine club where we taste wines up to £75 a bottle (the most expensive on a special night was £400 a half bottle). The only thing that matters is whether you like it. Quite often the presenter will wax lyrical about a particular posh wine then ask what people think to get a reply of "thin and acidic!!!" or similar. Its a great club with 130 members and a regular attendance of 80 or so but there are few wine snobs and everyone feels free to just say what they think.

I see where your coming but not that sort of informed.
A relative is the financial controller for a premier wine grower and bottler they enlightened me as to how the budget end of the market produce their offerings.

Definitely true Portuguese wine brought locally is superb & Spainish rose not tasted anything like outside of Spain.

In boxes?
Bottles, and bag-in-box. On many vineyards we have visited for tastings, their bag-in-box wine is exactly the same wine that goes into their bottles.

I'm not a wine expert, I just know what I like, and sometimes that is a relatively expensive vintage in a bottle, but for everyday drinking the moderately priced bag-in-box stuff is just fine.

You can be a wine snob or a wine slurper, best advice I would give is look at the supermarket wine bins, (cages) in the morning, then go back in the afternoon the one with the most wine is the one to avoid, pick the almost empty cage.

Only the dregs sold in boxes!
How do you know if it’s out of a bag or not. Have delivered shipping containers with one massive big bag of wine in that they suck out and re bottle.

As a side note, worth sticking a clean empty bottle in if you have limited fridge space (if you get white wine) then can top up the bottle and keep it cold. For red I go cheap and see what its all about. Sometimes horrid other times ok ?‍♂️

Just had to purchase a box of red here in Denmark. (Hung on until out of Sweden). A three litre box of Spanish red was about €14. Double the price of our normal 5 litre boxes, but available NOW!!!

All you need is a collapsible water container and go to the vineyards and get it filled from the pump (y)

If anyone is in carrafour at cite Europe looking for red wine , have a go at the corbieres at about 2 euros a bottle it is worth way more, if you don't like it ,what have you got to lose.
We bring about 60 bottles back every time we go , one a night till the next time(y)(y):)

I am at the moment enjoying a very nice glass of Pujo red from the Gascony area. It is a lovely wine and I buy plenty of boxes every time I visit there (10e 80 for 5 litres). IF not available I am happy to try other boxes of wine, and have very rarely found a dud. Lidl/Aldi is OK too. Dregs indeed! Ah well, we all have prejudices of some kind.

Just buy one and see if you like it.
Then buy some more.
Complete waste of money if you don't enjoy it!

My wine expert friend, an area sales manager for a large wine company, came with us to France once. He was embarrassed to follow me into Lidl to buy some wine. However he did take to a 5 euro Medoc but one night when he wasn't looking I slipped in a 1 euro bottle from Leclerc. We started drinking it and he concluded that "this really is an exceptional wine".

Had a brew and a sandwich on the supermarket car park just outside Guines a few years ago, watching the world go by, and saw quite a few of the French, especially popular amongst older men, coming out with these. If it’s the weight of bottles you are saving I can recommend this .....
