Bought a van at the Dusseldorf show, now got to import it..

The ONLY thing you might get away with is the luxury car tax if the MH's list price is below £40,000 and you don't add extras to take it over that figure when you pay for it, hardly likely though.
Then you get them to supply the vehicle at the absolute basic price & all & every extra is shown on a separate vat invoice .That's what we always did , as suggested by the dealers finance guru, & allowed us to reclaim all the vat legally on the 'extras' on every new vehicle.
You'd be surprised how 'low' the basic price is as it used to have to be based on the country with the highest vehicle tax rate ,being 100%in Denmark.

By options I meant those fitted/added by the manufacturer, such a lux pack, media pack, alloys, weight uprate etc, so that wouldn't work for those however for stuff that the dealer fitted after they took delivery, eg awning, solar panel, extra battery etc, there's no reason that shouldn't be separately invoiced, but I doubt if it would be under the £40,000 mark with NO options at all as there are very few MHs that will have such a low basic price tag - remember this is the LIST price from the manufacturer not the price you pay after any discounts or PX etc.

I'm sure this has been covered so happy to be pointed to any relevant thread or external websites which can give me some clarification on what I have to do next.

So I bit the bullet and have ordered a Malibu PVC (Charming GT600) which should be ready for February 2020.This is my first new van and first time of importing so any help will be much appreciated. I've requested all the forms from DVLA to register the van in the UK which I hope is not going to be too complicated. The main things I could do with advice on are.. What is the position with VAT? The dealer I'm buying from (Herrmanns just north of Dusseldorf) seemed to think that if I paid the VAT in the UK and could prove this then he can charge me the net price - but I don't think I can pay the VAT until I've returned with the van home, is this correct or am I missing something here? I'm also unsure about what plates I drive it back on (European side and this side) and ditto for insurance. There's probably other questions I haven't even thought of yet!

I'm at the beginning of this journey and have a few months to get my head around everything but I'm keen to understand the procedure well in advance so all assistance and advice will be very much appreciated ?

Oh.. and I'm very exited ?

Thanks

Hi,

I’m pretty certain that Carlos will charge you the net price of your van on the understanding that when you pay the vat you send him a copy of the invoice straight away.
With the plates, you need to give him your Passport and he will arrange for export plates, this takes 24hrs and can last for 30 days if you choose. These come with 3rd party insurance but I insured on the vin with NFU.
The picture is with the export plates, we stopped just up the road for the night to check everything over.
