Evening everyone, I've bought a Huawei e5577s router and am wondering what recommendations people have for data only Sims for use in Europe?. I'm planning a three month trip but not expecting to use the internet heavily,
Thank all.

You 're reading it wrong. It says that eu roaming is included and then it has a full stop. THEN it says IF you're roaming outside Europe THEN you need the passport. Sorry for the caps but you're not paying attention :giggle::giggle:
I was paying attention thank you however with it but being under the heating it was and giving details of the standard Passport it was a bit ambiguous ... I'd rather question it so that it gets clarified by those who are interested in it rather than just accepting it and find someone inadvertently falls foul of roaming charges.

That is what they consider to be fair usage - people going on holiday. What we used to get away with was mostly because UK operators let us. They could have still imposed fair usage limitations while we were EU members. There are long termers here from other EU countries who can't use data like we used to.

As I ve already said, we re getting away with Sky Mobile at present, but if this alters we will just buy a local sim card and be a bit more tolerant with wifi as we used to do before the roaming charges changed.
Yes it's a continual pain. The wife and kids have rattled up 80Gb on Sky and my contract with Vodafone runs out just before we next go away (100Gb) so will keep it going for an extra couple of months and see how it all plays out.

Have looked into https://www.wraptel.com/ and £26 for 30 days unlimited data throughout Europe seems good, as no buying different sims, no worries about time spent anywhere, no data limits🧐

But the small print fair usage, states 500mb per day limit then speed is throttled to 384kbs till midnight. So effectively not unlimited 🙁, no use for streaming real shame 👎
I have now requested my money back from Wraptel as there are too many "small prints".
I have now purchased from O2 (i currently have 2 contracts with them) a contract free Big Bundle, i paid £15 for 15gb over one month.
After a month this will auto change to a £30 for 100gb over a month, the previous month's unused data rolls over.

I was assured repeatedly that that bundle is not capped in Europe.

Have same mifi as you. Have been buying local Orange sim in Spain. €20 for 35gb data and they give you another 30gb free so 65 gb in total. Works great and the girls in the orange shop are so helpful
Can I ask where you bought your Orange Sim?

We're heading to Camping Mar Manor in March & unfortunately changed our Vodafone contract to Sim only in October, so fall foul of new roaming charges & data cap. Looking for the best option for our mifi, as my wife is an avid tv watcher & will eat data through the Firestick

I have recently purchased an O2 "Bundle", no contract, not pay as you go either, it is called a Bundle, £30 for 100gb of data for 30 days in Europe, no roaming fees, (O2 owned by Telifonica) and unused data from say March carried over into April, but only April data carried over into May if you see what i mean.
I have yet to use it across the channel so watch this space.

I think O2 have a limit of 25gb in the EU. Tesco mobile do 100gb for £30 PAYG and use all of it but no carry over for unused data, if you use it all you can buy another, you don’t have to wait a month

Edit. Tesco also use the O2 network

O2 limit of 25gb is only for pay monthly contracts not bundles.

I was VERY specific, i was in their shop in person.
I made it very clear to them that it was for DATA only for a mobile router for use in Belgium and the Netherlands, i questioned the 100gb not being capped, no roaming charges (because O2 are owned by Telifonica), and data carried forward.
I was assured that the "Bundle" was different and there was no cap.
There will be trouble if there is, as i say, watch this space.

Just had a look the Bundle appears to come uner there PAYG section on the bundle page it says you can use your data as at home when roaming but under their T&C is says limited to 25gb.

We are going away beginning of April will you have used enough data by towards the end of March to know?
Hope it works.

If you dont want any hassle buying foreign sims or being ripped off by your own UK provider then try "worldsim" it does what it says on the tin, and works in every country.
Might be bit more expensive in terms of user time compared to individual country sims, but comes comes hassle free.

Ok, Update Wed 16th Feb 2022.
As things stood the other day, i had purchased the M2 MR2100 router.
Purchased a 30 day sim "Bundle" from O2 with roll over data, no roaming fees, no cap on the bundle ie £30 for 100gb
So, tried to get the Router up and running, no joy.
Got my tech guy to the house, here all day, on phone to O2 support, on phone to USA Netgear support for over an hour.
Nothing working. Well the WiFi did but nothing from the router onwards.
Sent the router back to where i bought it as "Faulty", still waiting for refund.
Bought another router from different supplier.
Thought i would buy another Sim, so went into town and bought a "Three" sim.
While there i popped into O2 shop and spoke to a guy and explained my problem.
First words out of his mouth were "O2 sims wont work in Routers".
Oh boy are you serious i said, no they wont and the sims are capped in europe too.
Thats not what i was told i said, NO all our staff know that he says.
As i have stated in my previous posts, i was very explicit when i purchased the sim, i got them to confirm it was uncapped in europe.
I kept saying it was for my router.
So you guys that doubted my word, you were right.
I now have it all working fine with the "Three" sim.
In my Carthago on the drive i have NO signal from Three, but connect the router to the antenna and i have a real good speed test.
Connected the VPN and were watching Blocked Australian TV on the laptop.
Were now happy.
Just thought you would like to know.

I thought that was illegal Ofcom put a block on it a couple of years ago.
The block is that you are allowed to use in all your mobile devices with a battery. If your router is wired to a power source 5v, 12v or 240v that is not allowed as you cannot carry it with you.

Ah, i see.
Well we are talking semantics here.
The Device is not what i would call a "MiFi" device, it is a Router in the true sense of the word.
It will not work without a Sim card, it has to be "charged" via usb into the mains, it has a hefty battery.
It has a visual display where you can check all kinds of data.
I took it out in my van with me this afternoon, in my pocket and my service was great.
When in the motorhome and connected to my https://www.google.com/aclk?sa=l&ai=DChcSEwitu6Gq44T2AhWTl-0KHRLPCN0YABAKGgJkZw&sig=AOD64_0g3ljmkRKFD9ZxECyl2FCYuIKA-A&ctype=5&q=&ved=2ahUKEwjY25qq44T2AhWRTsAKHavVBt8Q9aACegQIARBB&adurl=
it is not powered by anything other than its internal battery.
Perhaps the guy in the O2 shop thought i meant a Router for the home, maybe, the girl who sold me the sim (apparently his best girl) was adamant that it was all fine, she knew we were going to Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium for 6 weeks.
When i go back to the shop (in a day or so) i will make sure that he knows the "Router" is a Mobile device and not a home domestic mains powered thing.
I'm very impressed now that it's working.
The little dome antenna (Mobilemark) on the roof works brilliantly, and the router, Netgear Nighthawk M2 MR2100 appears very good.

You can use a phone sim In a mifi, it has a battery. But you can't use a phone sim in a router if your supplier says it is not allowed.
Not heard that before, must be only O2 enforcing it, I tried a router at home and Plusnet (on EE) & Three worked OK.

I have a monthly contract with unlimited data, minutes and texts with O2 (as part of an18 month deal with Virgin Media taken out by my husband !) and it will not work in my Tp Link M7350 mi fi in the Vline. I have been back and forth to O2 shop and online, everyone has been helpful but no-body has been able to make it work! I will just have to take the mobile phone with me and hotspot it in the van and hope I get a signal.... unless anyone can show me another way?

None of these issues are with the routers, just traffic shaping and tariffing restrictions…

When i went into the O2 shop to complain about what they told me WOULD work in my router, the Manager was adamant that O2 SIMS would not work in a Router / MiFi whatever you call them, but i will check again when i go back in to get my money back.

The Routers are manufactured to work in specific regions, Americas, Europe, Asia etc but apart from that i believe your right.

Nothing to do with your O2 sim problem, but what VPN do you use
