Best UK sites within easy walking distance of a City / Town / Large Village?

Stay on the rodi and walk into chester
Second recommendation for Canterbury park and ride
Coach park at winchester

Why not buses? Sorry to presume your age, but a bus pass works all over England or even sans pass, a bus gives you the opportunity not to have to drive into town without the hassle of finding a parking space.

We like the C&C site halfway between Ledbury ( a nice little town) and Hereford, which also has a Carp lake! Hereford for Cathedral and Mappa Mundi, Cider Museum and a generally elegant city, plus the Beefy Boys burger restaurant (award-winning).

Also, the no.9 or 9a bus gets you to Exeter, Sidmouth, Lyme Regis and Honiton, for example, from Grindlebrook Farm site, cheap and basic but lovely kind owner, drove us to next bus stop when we missed one! Has hen, duck, goose eggs and son’s honey.

We really liked this site it’s about 10 mins walk into the village with a few nice pubs and a good selection of independent shops. Really good butcher/baker not to mention the highly skilled candle stick maker!!
Highly recommended 👍

We're staying at Meadow Farm at the moment. Can confirm it's a very nice site and an easy walk into Tenby which is a lovely town. Quite steep haul back up though! Not especially expensive bearing in mind the location.
Taxi £3.50 if you're knackered!

Swiss Farm in Henley, Oxfordshire is a nice well appointed site within pretty easy walking distance (maybe 1/2 mile?) from Henley Centre. Can get fully serviced pitches if you want (I went for that for a bit of luxury last year) and good facilities and swimming pool.

(they also had an automated toilet cassette emptying/cleaning machine which was interesting to try :D )

Could try Hertford C&CC not that far out of town .
Use Google earth to give you some idea of distance from site to town!

Thirsk C&MC site is very handy for the town which is very nice and it has the World of James Herriot museum which is well worth a visit. And across the road is Thirsk Museum. There is also a large Tesco and Lidl just outside the camp site. You do have to move from the camping area on race days to a rally field but the bonus is you get to watch the horse racing. The race dates are on the C&MC website.

Just about next door to the CMC Four Oaks site. Site good, town likewise.

Just to add a few Scottish "urban" sites -
C&MC Melrose Gibson Park (Co-op at entrance, town centre 5 minutes walk, best ever Thai takeaway, 4-5 dog friendly pubs \ restaurants, etc)
C&MC Stonehaven (10-15 minutes walk along a seaside boardwalk to town centre)
C&CC Dingwall
Woodlands Caravan Park, Carnoustie (10 minutes walk downhill to Open golf course but twice that on the way back!)
C&MC Ayr Craigie Gardens (excellent 10-15 minute walk along riverside to town beach \ centre)
C&MC Maragowan (fishing on Club water adjacent to site and 10-15 minutes walk to the Falls of Dochart, pubs \ restaurants, etc)
Fortrose Caravan Park \ C&CC Rosemarkie (10 minutes walk to town and same to dolphin watching, 5 minutes walk to golf course)

Why not buses?
Well seeing as you have the impertinence to ask ...

1. When I was very young my hamster was tragically run over and killed by a T7X Bus and I've yet to forgive them.
2. I'm the one that the talkative drunk always comes and sits beside (or is it the other way around?).
3. We don't like faffing with timetables, routes etc. when we're on holiday.
4. My better half doesn't like, especially under Covid, being sat for any length of time surrounded in an enclosed space by strange people (she's prepared to make the occasional exception for me - if I've got a bottle of wine).
5. I don't like travelling in vehicles that I'm not driving, and no matter how often I ask the bus driver is rarely ready for me to take a spell.

We found Salisbury club site to be perfect for us. Nestled at the foot of old Sarum, just a couple of miles walk into Salisbury along the river. Plenty of interesting walks and plenty to do in town

CMC Steamer quay, Totnes. 5 minutes over the bridge and into town. Smashing.place and great for walks.

I quite like the site in Cheddar but the town isn't very big.

Great Indian restaurant there with a BYO beer policy. Across the road is a Coop that sells large bottles of Cobra.

What more could you want?(y)

Pooley Bridge, nr Penrith. Hillcroft Park plus others on Ullswater itself. Once in the village buses to Penrith and Windemere (via Kirkstone Pass) - some of those buses in summer are open top, but you need a good day (it’s not called the lakes for nothing). Warning, not flat, downhill from the site into the villag, but the site road on the way back up is known as cardiac hill - there are benches half way. Not cheap, but not the super expensive silly prices I have seen on some with similar facilities but not the views.

Pinewoods in Wells Next the Sea. About a mile outside the town and very close to the beach and the coastal path. Electricity, water and waste wate at each pitch. Good amount of space between you and your neighbours. On site facilities were execellent , modern and very clean.

Having fully enjoyed our stay at Oxford C&CC and also at York, we're wondering if there are any other scenic / historic / pleasant places served by a 'local' site? We're not really into long walks / bikes / buses, so it really has to be somewhere on the edge (or centre) of town! Either Club, or Independant so long as they have leccy.

UK Suggestions greatly appreciated 👍
Keswick & bowness both within walking distance of the town
