Hello, I am looking for recommendations as to the best PAYG data sim (sim only) for use in the EU? We have a Popit sim but are unable to get a response from them to reactivate it. Many thanks in advance.

have a look here........
the 400gb euro sim states roaming with 200gb ....... which equates to 22 euro (£19) for 100gb with no retention fees etc......

Thanks for that! I'll take a look. Things must have changed since I last looked, which was a while ago. Cheers! :)

A couple of questions re the IQ sims......
Would anyone know how effective are they for streaming in Spain (in the deep south) and if they are 'activated' on line then can they be left dormant and activated while abroad with no detriment? Similarly can they be 'topped' up again whilst abroad please?
For six months with 100gb availability (per month) have I got it right that the overall cost would be...£160 as having to use two cards... (£20 x 6 = £120 + £20 +£20) ?
Just remember you would need to activate both IQ SIMs in the UK (as I read their instructions). Then you can buy bolt-on at any time - 3 months max EU roaming with each SIM.

Yes.....so activate both in say October.....then remove one and 'pause' it. Use the other for three months until it stops and then re insert into mifi/ phone the paused one and use for three months....six months in total (or as many as you wish to buy) for £160. Shame they only have 100gb. Is my reasoning there sound?
I'm interested as looking for a standby for our Tiecom sim should its connection be ever iffy in the south of Spain as the other half needs internet for business...... so IQ Go sounds like a contender......!

I previously shared this post on another thread.

Data Sim 400gb EU only - Tiekom, Spain

In 2022/3 I used Tiekom company sims based in Spain. Were excellent with 300gb data only use across Spain and all Eu Zone 1 but sadly they had to pull the product in March last year as they needed to change their carrier.
However I have now bought a different Tiekom monthly deal. This is a data only sim providing 400gb in Spain but also allows 200 gb of that total to be used across Zone 1 EU. It cost €43.90 which is around £37 a month with no contract, and can be ‘parked’ when not needed. Now activated from France and using it whilst travelling down to Spain, following set up as an E Sim on my iPhone. Therefore no need to wait for physical sims to arrive at home. Don’t ask me how it works from the QR code that they send you, but it works!
Anyway all of this has been sorted and set up by contact with Camino Arias at Tiekom who, if you search this and other sites, is regularly mentioned as being excellent as customer service point of contact. I fully support that view. I should add I have since arranged and received physical sims from them for future use by myself and family. I have no contact or other interest with Tiekom, they just do what they advertise and have been an excellent service provider over last 3 years. I am currently on the e sim close to Lyon… PS. My ‘parked’ e sim is easily reactivated by sending an email to Camino.
cheers all

IQ GO. They piggyback on EE in the UK. Using the service currently on the Wild Atlantic Way and never been without a signal so their roaming partners are well sourced here.

£20 a year for the sim…and then buy data when you need it. I bought 100Gb for £20. Been watching Netflix of an evening. Customer service is amazing! WhatsApp messages answered within minutes.

I’ve signed up for a beta data service from Honest Mobile that automatically switches to the strongest signal with roaming in 181 countries. It’s only for data. No calls…no texts as of yet (I think without checking site). Can only be used for certain apps like Google Maps and a few others. They are adding more apps soon. WhatsApp messaging only not voice. Its supposed to be a esim back up to your main physical sim. In Beta it’s only £5 a month unlimited data no roaming charges. Interested how that one develops.

Hi

Do you know if you can use that SIM in a MiFi unit and use it as a hotspot for a couple of devices?
We did this year whilst in France and Spain without a problem.

barryd yes it chooses the best available network in that area.

Orion you can use the full 200gb roaming allowance anywhere in zone 1 which includes the UK
Great thanks. Might be the one to go for next year for the big trip. I think I can get it as an e sim also. Just need to work out how to get two lots of three months for a six month trip.

IQ Go is great. It is an MVNO using EE. We have found it reliable and they respond to questions quickly. BUT you can only use your roaming allowance 90 days in 360. They give additional days if you move your mobile account to them or you could buy a second SIM.

I use ID mobile, I pay £12 a month for 150gb rome like home. Any unused data rolls over and it really is rome the same as home, and I've never had a problem with signal. I tether my smart TV to it.

Only problem is since I took it out I think they've capped new contracts to 12gb, because I took mine out before this they honour the contract.
I think the cap in Europe is 30Gb with the unlimited UK data plan.

I've got free EU roaming on 3 sims with EE. All I had to do was ask. Also unlimited data as I have my broadband with them too. I don't know what the EU usage limit is but I've never reached it and use data as I would in the UK if not more so.

I have EE unlimited data SIM in my mobile. £32 month reduced to £16 for first six months of a 24 month contract. To use "like at home" when roaming is either £2.47 a day, or £25 for a full month. You can start and stop the latter depending on your travel plans. "Like at home" on the £25 monthly extends to USA, Canada, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand. Easy to manage via the app. It works for us anyway.
To add, the coverage is remarkably better than my previous O2 SIM in UK, France and Spain.

O2 do not charge you extra for Europe but cap you 25GB, see their site for their deals

Yes rules keep changing. I’m a recent iD contract and rollover does not apply to EU roaming

I’m surprised your having issues contacting them if you use the chat feature during normal hours they are really helpful, out of hours I email them and get a response within 24 hours. We’ve been with them a year now and always had a good experience

people please take note on hello iq you get cashback on sim purchase and data purchase. I use topcashback and its 42% compare now the pricing with any other service and it trumps them all.

Yes we get 120 days which is probably enough but we do get 30gb on our phones so can use that and up the data if needed.

If you take out the annual Sim contract (£20 I think) it keeps your sim 'live' for the year even though you may not be using it. When you go travelling you purchase a top-up and it automatically activates and gives you the gb you have purchased. Yes, you can top-up again whilst abroad.

I doubt you will have any problems streaming in the south of Spain. It works off the EE network (and it's partners abroad), and I have found that if you automatically get a weaker signal you can search for the best signal within the range of partners. I have occasionally had to do this.

I have been using IQ Go on an annual sim for about 9 moths now, all over Europe, with occasional 'dormant' periods at home. It's been brilliant.

The cost for 6 months for one sim would be 6 x £20 + £20 for annual sim = £140. Double this for 2 cards.
Is there a way of seeing how much data your using?
