Hello, I am looking for recommendations as to the best PAYG data sim (sim only) for use in the EU? We have a Popit sim but are unable to get a response from them to reactivate it. Many thanks in advance.

I would suggest IQ GO. Ours works perfectly in our Hauwei WiFi E5577

Another vote for IQ Mobile. Buy what data you want and use it in UK or Europe as you see fit. As it is a UK sim you can play BBC from Europe without needing a VPN.

note if you purchase iq products via cashback website such as topcashback you get 42% back on your purchase.

Can you confirm that it also applies to the IQ GO data subscription and 100gb bolt on? If so do you have a link as I couldn’t locate one.

Thanks, just went via Topcashback and the link to IQ Mobile for a £20 100gb add-on. How long did the discount take to show up in your account?

Depends , I had very good results with Reglo sim in my router on the last trip but we only stayed in France so no problem with roaming limits but did need a vpn to stream uk tv.

A couple of questions re the IQ sims......
Would anyone know how effective are they for streaming in Spain (in the deep south) and if they are 'activated' on line then can they be left dormant and activated while abroad with no detriment? Similarly can they be 'topped' up again whilst abroad please?
For six months with 100gb availability (per month) have I got it right that the overall cost would be...£160 as having to use two cards... (£20 x 6 = £120 + £20 +£20) ?

If you take out the annual Sim contract (£20 I think) it keeps your sim 'live' for the year even though you may not be using it. When you go travelling you purchase a top-up and it automatically activates and gives you the gb you have purchased. Yes, you can top-up again whilst abroad.

I doubt you will have any problems streaming in the south of Spain. It works off the EE network (and it's partners abroad), and I have found that if you automatically get a weaker signal you can search for the best signal within the range of partners. I have occasionally had to do this.

I have been using IQ Go on an annual sim for about 9 moths now, all over Europe, with occasional 'dormant' periods at home. It's been brilliant.

The cost for 6 months for one sim would be 6 x £20 + £20 for annual sim = £140. Double this for 2 cards.

We used our IQGo in Seville with no problems at all. Also in the outskirts of Alcaniz and in Orisoain with no problem at all. We've never had any problem with it at all.

Popit have moved from Doncaster to Hull. I messaged them on Thursday and got a reply on Friday, so they are still active. We used our Popit sims on our inaugural France/Spain/Portugal trip in 2023 and this years trip around France and Spain and never had a problem getting connected.

Sounds good that deal. I was going to ask a similar question. Planning a six month trip to Europe next summer but noticed the three month limit on IQ. I was wondering if you could buy two and use your three months on that one and when it runs out start using the other one. 100gb a month between two of us would have to be rationed but it just seems less faff than having to find local Sims in each country.

Does anyone know if this would be doable? I could just ask them I guess.

Its mentioned by another above that they knew of someone that had used two cards to enable an 'extension' on the three month limit.....hence the costing of two cards in my post.......
We spend 8 months of the year in Spain and usually use Tiecoms euro wide data sim at 43euro a month for 400g. The IQ Go might save us £10 a month or so if we could eke out the 100gb......with the Tiecom we never needed to monitor its consumption as we had plenty so therefore we don't know what we used at all....only that we stream UK TV constantly and use the internet freely day and night.......

Thanks. We currently have two phones with 250gb each on Vodafone via Talkmobile. We generally use between 100-150gb each per month max sometimes less. 50gb each is doable but I think I read you can top it up?

What I'm looking for is least hassle but also importantly good coverage. Vodafone for example was always excellent in France because of the choice of good French telecoms partners. The allowances with Vodafone and more so talkmobile are rubbish though.

Another option would be 1pmobile which is also on the EE network (4 and 5G) also has EU roaming for 46 countries. No annual fee and £15 a month for 100gb without contract.

EU roaming is limited to 14GB per month.

This is the sim I have in my Mobile router there are options lower and higher than 100gb per month and having tried Vodafone and Smarty (3 network) I will say EE out performs all on my travels UK and abroad.
