hi everyone

OK so i’m sick of our motorhome, Rapido Distinction i1090, 2 years old and owned from brand new and it’s been an absolute catalogue of bursts, failures, broken, snapped, poor quality, crap, not fit for purpose, junk, lack of communication.

I know i’m gonna get a lot of various recommendations but what do you guys recommend.

I’m looking at 7-8 mtrs, rear island moveable bed with big garage underneath, silver rather than white, Alde, and Mercedes rather than Fiat

Light interior rather than dark and brand new

And recommended dealers who do what they promise, also time taken to get warranty repairs done 🥲

budget £160/170k

So tell me what you’ve got and why you’d recommend

cheers

Al

Geoff Cox is a highly recommended (by me) Adria dealer.

Geoff's son, Gavin, runs the motorhome dealership and they have their own workshop.

Just rang them and they’re not SuperSonic dealers which would be the model i’d go for

thanks anyway

Al

Frankia Platin
I agree if I wanted to spend that sort of money I would consider a Frankia, unless I wanted Lefthand Drive I wouldn't consider buying a Motorhome designed for Europeans and not UK market ,I went to the Dusseldorf show once , full of lovely motorhomes but, not for me ( there again personal choice)

Has anyone recommended Morelo Home 82M to fit the OP's request?
I don't think you would get an island bed layout less than 8 metres, and certainly not in budget or in anything other than white.

Bought an Adria with all the spec you have mentioned few little niggles at first but we’re all sorted by the dealer after sales who I must say have been excellent.
Bought from Wanda homes South Cave

We made some the same decisions as you.

As you have decided you going with a Mercedes below, then it makes sense to go with a German manufacturer above.

Once you have limited it to just the Germans you then need to look at the ones that are popular in the UK and have more than a single UK distributor.

I think you will then find your choices are only a few realistic options.

Al n Val Carthago E Line 51 QB is just under 8 metres on a Fiat and an inch or two over 8 metres on a Mercedes. Rear island bed and a reasonable garage (but not a moveable bed). Available on a tag axle at 5.5 tons, so no payload issues. Most good quality 8 metre vans on a single rear axle will probably struggle for payload.

There’s one in at Go European at the moment (just come in).

I’ve got the twin single version, on a tag axle, which is an E Line 50 LE. The garage is about 200mm taller on the 50. We’re really happy with it. The last van was 8.9 meres and a bit of a problem in some places we go to, whereas 8 metres is just nice and manageable.

Nice van, but op has a budget of £160/£170k and wants new.

I was taking the OP's 7-8m as an approximation - the Home 82M is 8.210m.

I agree new price not within his budget but S/H might be, just.
And the other problem is that they are discontinuing the Home range so better get yours ordered pretty pronto Geoff ;)

yes but it’s not new (7 years old), 3 owners and another tag so much longer than what i’m after.

It’s also underspecced and a Fiat when i’ve asked for a Merc

And bloody horrible dark interior 😱
Yeah, but apart from that, just what you are looking for

Signature Motorhomes at Preston do both these models. We got an Adria Matrix Supreme off them, found them exceptional and like the van very much.

A good friend bought a brand new Supersonic from them and refuse to let them near it as in his opinion they were dire at after sales.

It’s a difficult one choosing a good dealer and you never know until it’s poss too late 😟

Mercedes 2.0ltr 170bhp

or

Fiat 2.3ltr 180bhp

which would you choose, both 9sp auto

Also can you extend the Mercedes warranty like you can the Fiat?

I wasn’t able to extend the Mercedes warranty. I was told by the suppliers that, because it’s an import (?) they won’t sell an extended warranty. I had the conversation about all Sprinters being imported, but to no avail. I think they class anything that wasn’t supplied through a UK Mercedes dealer as an import.

Other warranty options are available but I chose not to bother, given the bad press that most warranty companies have.

Personally, having had Fiat and Mercedes, I prefer the Mercedes. in my opinion it’s smoother and quieter. I’m convinced the 9 speed gearbox is the same in both… there’s a ZF badge on the gearbox in my Mercedes !

I also prefer the Merc. Very smooth and easy to drive. I also prefer the cab layout, the MBUX media system and the MercedesMe app.
The lifetime breakdown cover, so long as you have Mercedes service, is also a comprehensive bonus.
