hi everyone

OK so i’m sick of our motorhome, Rapido Distinction i1090, 2 years old and owned from brand new and it’s been an absolute catalogue of bursts, failures, broken, snapped, poor quality, crap, not fit for purpose, junk, lack of communication.

I know i’m gonna get a lot of various recommendations but what do you guys recommend.

I’m looking at 7-8 mtrs, rear island moveable bed with big garage underneath, silver rather than white, Alde, and Mercedes rather than Fiat

Light interior rather than dark and brand new

And recommended dealers who do what they promise, also time taken to get warranty repairs done 🥲

budget £160/170k

So tell me what you’ve got and why you’d recommend

cheers

Al

Why would they be selling a year old van with 1500 miles????
Lots of reasons,
Tried it wife didn’t like it
Loved it but wanted something else.
In hock and lost job so repo.

Or had loads of issues like yourself lol, sorry al couldn’t resist

When it works it’s a lovely motorhome tbh, hence buying it in the first place but it’s bloody testing me and so is the dealer and Rapido due to lack of communication 😟

So maybe you should be asking yourself “who should we buy from”? Rather than what, or maybe you have already 😉

We have the sonic supreme and shortly changing it for a rapido 8096, the only fault with the adria has been the Reich water fittings which we have now changed the leaking ones for john guest and have had no further problems, ours is a 2019 on a comformatic and runs like a dream but finding it just a bit too big for the 2 of us . Will miss the full air suspension and the self levellers.and it will be a cracking van for the next owner. Did look at the new sonic 700 series but just cant stretch the budget that far.

Just because you’ve got a budget of £170k doesn’t mean you won’t get a load of problems on another new van. It seems that build quality has generally declined over the last few years. You’ve had a load if problems, but surely you must be coming to the end of that phase with your Rapido? Once all the problems are sorted out you’ll be happy with it and have a superb Moho.
When you consider that with a motorhome you’ve got the problems of the base vehicle and the problems of a “house” as well,it’s not surprising it has tested your patience. I’ve just spent a very large sum of money on a newly built house and I could write a book about the problems we’ve had, from boundary fences in the wrong place to electric sockets not working plus a dozen more issues.
You may be better to stick with “ the devil you know”.
Good luck! :giggle:

OK

who should we be buying from bearing in mind we’re in West Yorkshire 👍

PS. do you think travelling to “the best” dealer should even be a consideration

N&B 79f, although you won't get one on a Merc.
But,
I have had 3 mercs, 1 iveco, 6 Fiats 2 of which were on the tag axle including current one. I think the Fiat is a much better van for the motorhome market especially on the new auto box.

you wont get new for your money but a couple of years old.

Only problem is that the only importer is TW who are quite possibly the most difficult people to deal with.

After just returning from the factory to see first hand how they are built , we will be purchasing a Carthago 😊

Hymer 790, we have just bought a T780, on a merc, drives superb, very quiet, and seems to be built like a tank, not as "blingy" as some, but feels like it will last.

The trouble is one man's "fantastic dealer" is another man's "nightmare dealer" I only have experience with one dealer when we bought our Palace and I am very happy with them (now) I say now as it wasn't so good at the start and it was all down to communication or lack of, once I talked to the right people it was completely different. It's all going to be a balance of the van you like, at a dealer you think will support you, and a travelling distance that works for you.

We are very pleased with our new Carthago Tourer C and here’s why

High quality solid build on Mercedes Al-KO chassis
Clever and innovative design features
Top quality components
Easy to drive
Excellent rear view “bus” style mirrors and wide angle reversing camera.
Smooth and quiet on the road, no rattles
Large garage
Comfortable and sizeable bedroom.
Double floor
Large internal and accessible waste and fresh water tanks.
High pressure water flow
Separate shower and toilet areas
Lots of underfloor storage
Excellent locker space
Large gas locker

The only problem is finding one through a dealer or waiting at least a year for delivery.

Yes we’ve considered that as well, once everything is sorted we should have a fantastic motorhome, it’s the time it’s taking to get the problems all sorted that’s driving me nuts.

That said i’m dreading starting all over again with another brand new motorhome and having another long list of issues with a different dealer who’s worse than the one we have 😱😱😱

It’s our 2nd tag axel and we do love the room it gives us but looking at a sub 8mtr van for the next one, we’ve never failed to get on a pitch but some have been tight to say the least

I just want a motorhome we can rely on and be proud to own and not full of faults so it makes us feel like we do 😟

You may be able to have the leveller's and air suspension removed and fitted on new van?

“Best dealer” is very subjective.

Also every new MH will have snags, the further away the dealer is the more hassle…

Some dealers have overnight parks/clubs, maybe thats a really nice touch, or maybe cus they know so many will be back with snags? - aka Chez Newark…..

I think quality of workmanship is questionable in lots of trades, and resign myself to just fixing simple stuff myself, certainly have with a new build house from a “renowned” Loughborough house builder

Is this not another argument (ignoring the financial implications) for buying a used motorhome - or keeping your own?

It seems to be a pattern with new ones that they have annoying issues to get resolved and luck of the draw if it's a few minor things or a load of major problems...!

Glad to hear you are avoiding new Burstner Elegance, despite being Mercedes - we exchanged ours for Hymer B SL704 at 7.9m so able to access most campsites and back to safer option of cassette toilet!

yes but it’s not new (7 years old), 3 owners and another tag so much longer than what i’m after.

It’s also underspecced and a Fiat when i’ve asked for a Merc

And bloody horrible dark interior 😱
Apart from that though 🙊

Geoff Cox is a highly recommended (by me) Adria dealer.

Geoff's son, Gavin, runs the motorhome dealership and they have their own workshop.
