Hi
What are the best makes to search to find a motorhome that has a garage store at the rear to transport a motorbike when touring

Many of the Continental MH manufacturers have models with garages (Hymer, Niesmann&Bischoff, Carthago, Hobby, Rapido and on and on.)

Have you got the m/c or is this just an idea?

You need to match the size of the m/c to the garage size, both internally and the garage door size and if it is a heavy one which needs a ramp to load it you need to allow a bit extra on the door height for when the handlebars/mirrors are at top of ramp(some can be detached/bent down)

Then you need to go into each specification to find out what fits the m/c you have or want to buy. Allow quite a few 10s of hours to do this.

Do not choose the MH just on this criteria, there are lots of other considerations.

First, do you have a C1 licence? If not, you'll struggle to find any motorhome under 3.5t that'll fit a powered two wheeler.

Next, how much motorbike? Quite a few vans can fit small and lightweight scooters (under about 150kg). But larger bikes are often far more than this. You quicky hit limits on the garage floor loading. Or limits on the rear axle load.

I’ve got a Carthago eline for my bike but you can get the same size bike (KTM Duke 890) in a c line.

Yes. There are vans that'll take a 200kg bike. But many won't.

There are a few 6.4m panel vans with "race van" style layouts. The bed is high up and lengthways over the garage.

I'm not out for an argument, the OP asked which vans can take a motorbike, I've told her of a couple that can.

Agree. I'm just pointing out that just because a bike will fit, it doesn't mean you'll be able to carry it. Floor loads in garages are often limited to 150kg. And rear axle loads are often an issue.

Both Carthago's I mentioned are capable of carrying motorbikes.

I have an SV650 that lives in my garage, I have a Hymer S820, the garage weight limit is 350kgs. With regard to mirrors, I used to have to take them off to get the bike in and out however, I have now fitted bar end mirrors which just fold back.

It may be easier to fit a tow bar and put the bike on a trailer.
No limit on size or weight, you could even carry two bikes!
These trailers look good

Good idea but potentially could have a small impact on your travels, especially in Germany where you have to stay in the truck lane with a reduced speed limit, the Polizei don’t like it if you stray out😉👍

We carried first a 690Duke then a 790Duke in our 4 Ton Mizar, had to slightly modify a bit of the garage and move mirrors to get it in. Was regularly taken over the local weighbridge and we were always within limits
We have a rollerteam sport parked next to us in storage, he uses it for motocross, i think.
We niw have a 350 motorhome with an easylifter and a different but very similar weight bike.

With a trailer you are normally allowed in lane one and two on the autobahn.

I don't know about you, but I normally set my max speed to 65mph which means I can overtake the freight.
I spend all my time in lanes one and two anyway.

My van is 3.850kg, but in Europe looks exactly like the 3500kg model.
I'm not supposed to be in lane 3, although I'd defy any cop to read the weight plate at 65mph
In 25,000 miles of travel I doubt I've done even a full mile in lane 3.

Lane one only on a two lane autobahn like the A61 Koblenz for example👍
If you’re over 3.5t then the speed limit is 62mph 100kmh as the same if you’re under 3.5t with a trailer👍

Its an answer if you don't have a C1 or above but the problems are limitations on stays, lower speed limits ( except France) and theft issues.

Hydratrail is a smaller/easier solution but equally not without some compromises

Will depend largely on your budget and the size of MH you want. Generally (although not always) the bigger and/or more expensive you go, the better the garage capacity will be. The key dimension to focus on in my experience is the clear height. If you have 1.20m or more you will be able to fit a wide range of bikes in the garage.

Another option is a rack. This isn't tow bar mounted, I goes onto the chassis rails each side. The Duke 390 is 149kg dry so right on the rack limit. The rear axle is still well under it's maximum capacity because the van has a short overhang👌

Have been tempted by a 390 Duke a few times but struggled to find a wet weight for it - googling seems to say anywhere between 153kg and 175kg. You haven't weighed yours by any chance have you?

Garage height is a limiting factor, I would have preferred an adventure style bike like the vstrom but they are just a bit too tall.

Agreed....all adventure style bikes have higher bars...but surprisingly lots of sports or naked bikes and even lots of scooters are very similar in height if you are happy to change/fold or remove the mirrors to load up.

No, I suppose it depends on how much petrol is in it. Mine has also got rear rack and shad pannier brackets. Can't believe it was only £3099 new in 2017 😏 fantastic bike, I've got the new Hornet 750 but I'm always excited to be jumping on the Duke 🤩 just bought some meaty tyres for it so I can rip the camp site up 🤣
