Don't own one yet
We are currently in France with our dog, first time we brought him, cost a small fortune.

We will be heading back in the next few days so need to visit vet and get wormer and certificate signed.

The cost quoted by vet seems a lot 55 euro. But for 10euro more they will supply a passport.

So what will the benefits be of a passport? And I thought you needed a permanent EU address, can they still issue one?.

The vets is highly rated based in Luxembourg

You don’t need to get an AHC every time you cross the channel.

They can, but French vets seem averse to the idea.

No, there were new rules over two years ago (or was it three 🤔) if a dog had not been on the iCad (?) register for 3 months they were not allowed to issue a pet passport. Janie

That’s rather what I was suggesting (that you would have no joy in France (however, others seem to be suggesting otherwise 🤷‍♂️)).👍

Pet passport in Spain 22 Euros, rabies jab (three year one) worming and health check for return trip. 42 Euros.
Returned to UK last weekend.
No more messing about with the AHC
BUT as Minxy said. ensure the date at front of passport is the implant date if relying on previous rabies history or they wont accept it at Calais.
Unless you have a new jab then they can write the reading date.
This happened to us last year so had to have a new rabies injection this year to be any use and travel out on an AHC.

We're heading off to France next week and have just been through the (expensive) AHC process, are there any French vets out there supplying pet passports?
I have just PMed you my list of French vets that have recently issued Pet Passports to Brits. This list is available to any subscribing Funster that needs it - just send me a PM.

There were no new 'rules' just misinterpretations of that 'Brexit statement' on the I-cad website. BTW that notorious statement has now disappeared.

So, do French Vets still require your dog to be on the I-cad register before they issue passport? And does this need the owner to have a French address (or can any address be used)?

You only need worming tablets coming back not going so needs to be done in EU
Obviously you're not reading the thread. If you went to EU say for 2 days you would have to have worming done in UK prior to departure and have it in PP, similarly going to Malta or Norwzy or Ireland! 🤔

French vets are not all singing from the same hymn sheet.

Many, probably most, will want your dog to be registered on I-cad - even though this makes no sense for non-resident dogs. The only actual law is that a dog must be registered on I-cad if it will be staying in France for more than 3 months.

Some vets will insist that I-cad registration has to be done before they will issue a Pet Passport - which can mean a 2-3 week delay before you actually obtain one. This will also require the use of a French address as the vet will want to see the I-cad registration card that arrives in the mail. A few will even demand to see 'proof of residency' such as a utility bill - which is ridiculous as residency has never been a legal requirement for any EU Pet Passport.

Some vets will issue you a Pet Passport at the same time as they fill in the form for I-cad registration. This is obviously much easier and generally means that you can use any old French address eg campsite. You do not need an I-cad registration card to cross borders, just the Pet Passport.

There are still a few sensible French vets who realise that I-cad registration is not necessary for a non-resident dog and will issue a Pet Passport without it and using your UK address. Unfortunately they seem to be few and far between. However, as mentioned earlier, I do have a list of French vets (around 40 of them) known to have recently issued Pet Passports to Brits. They are a good starting point to make enquiries as to their current requirements. Let me know if you would like a copy of the list.

Thanks for the info.
I had a nice diversion to Bruges (Lieve) earlier this year and easily secured our PP, so I should be good for a while.

We went to a vet in Spain on our first trip to the EU (after paying £180 for an animal health certificate in the UK) and easily managed to get an EU passport for all of £10 (12 euros). We gave the address as that of a friend who lives in Spain (but you could give any address you walk past, no one checks). The vet will need to give your K9 a rabies jab (about £35) which lasts 3 years. As previous replies have said, you need to renew this in the EU; if you renew in the UK and have it on a separate document it will cause you grief. We just get it renewed as we leave the EU just before it expires. Having the K9 given a worm tablet is a pain, but you can't get back into the UK without getting it done. I found a vet in Belgium who was from Bradford and just watched me administer my own for free (well, a small donation to his hedgehog rescue fund).

Have you done that ?

No but I haven't been to the moon either but I know you need a rocket to get there.
I have just returned from EU and the vet we always use has advised that for our short stay December visit it would be easier to have worming done before we get to EU, so use our UK vet
