Baltic Wharf redevelopment latest news

Stayed 3 times in the last 15 months and loved it. Summer or winter so would recommend a stay. nice walk into the city along the harbour or a walk to Clifton village and then back into the city centre. Go for it while you can.

It’s not a conspiracy theory - the article you quoted later in the thread makes it clear that the original proposal was for a school:
“The loss to the local economy has been calculated at over £1.2 million but despite this, the Council had earmarked the site for closure and redevelopment into a school.”
We were involved with the petition and action to try to stop the 'school'. It was quite obvious that the 'school' idea was only a smokescreen for what the mayor at that time really wanted i.e apartments. He'd even managed to get everything well under way without anyone, even the local councillors, knowing about it until we turned up the evidence by using the Freedom of Information Act.
The local businesses certainly wanted to keep the caravan site becuse it provided a good income. Particularly in the quieter months.

Bristol Council, sounds a lot like ERCC. Most things seem to happen on a (funny?) handshake here too.

The same in many places I guess, it certainly is in Ipswich.

Last time I went on business , for a delivery in a panel van , at THE COULSTON HALL for all day parking cost £12 in the multi story behind the fine venue . Where in the stair wells were the remnants of drug abuse and toilet facilities

Apologies for being pedantic but it's the Colston Hall

We enjoy Bristol a lot - great theatre and dining experiences plus some of the "local" pubs are brilliant and I have always felt quite safe in town.

Sounds amazing on the Baltic Wharf and its got to be done while its still there. We sent David and Sally on a recce and they've given it the thumbs up so we've booked in for a couple of nights over the weekend. One question. With all the road closures and mentions of don't use your satnav on the club website the thought of driving through Bristol city centre isn't doing it for me so I'm thinking of getting off the M5 at J19 (Gordanno Services) and coming in from the west. Looks more straight forward, avoids the city and according to Google maps is only 18 mins from the M5. Your views would be really appreciated. Cheers all.

J18 is a more direct run in but I don't know where the road closures are.

Or you could get off at the Avonmouth junction and come in on the A4 Portway.

You will have to approach Baltic Wharf from the City Centre side. You won’t have to got into the City Centre, just approach the site from that direction (if you get what I mean?).

Coming from the west, Cliff House Road onto Coronation Road. Get to Bedminster Bridge, first exit Cumberland Road. You’ll be heading back west, but on the other side of the river. Baltic Wharf on your right. (y)

Yes I do. I'll have a look. Your route appears to take me under the suspension bridge. I just then need to get on to the wharf island if thats possible? BTW that route onto the Portway involves J18 / 18A which looks like a plate of spaghetti

You’ll need to go over the swing bridge, filter off left onto Cliff House Road which runs onto Coronation Road. About a mile or so you come to a roundabout (Bedminster Bridge). Then left onto Cumberland Road.

That was the way to go the last time I was up that way.

Got it. Actually its Clift House Road but looks pretty straight forward. Also as I'm coming South from the midlands can I get onto the A4 (Portway) from J18 / 18A. Thanks. (y)

Yes, we use the junction regularly to get home when returning from the Midlands. The A4 is well signposted. (y)

Yes, come off at Avonmouth j18, follow overhead gantry signs to A4 Bristol and the airport sign. At the roundabout is second left.

Excellent article about Bristol in The Times property section today

Just back from 2 nights at Baltic Wharf then one night at Uphill Marina and Camping with David & Sally. As they are only 40 mins apart it would be rude not to do both. What a little gem the Baltic Wharf is and such a shame the developers are going to ruin it. We hope to revisit before the JCBs arrive. Thanks all for your route assistance. J18 is the way to go for us. Piece of cake.
ps.......Can recommend Uphill Marina too for its early morning stunning views over the lake which all pitches get.

I would come down for a walk around if not due to rain tomorrow, that and the small matter of taking the van to Gloucester for cambelt change!
If you are up for another colourful autumn walk, the beech tree avenue in Aston Court is lovely.
Baltic Wharf ringed right, beech walk behind Aston Court Mansion, Ashton Court parkland free to go in.
