Are you really a FLT...

If we park on an Aire or CP which is free are we FLT that night and not FLT when we park on a paying Aire or farm the next night?

Or maybe for some critics the term applies to anybody who would use a free Aire - so if there is no charge payable at one's chosen destination, should one move on to a paying Aire or campsite to avoid being labelled a 'FLT'?

Tosh and nonsense - or should that be 'Tosser and nonsense'?

reading the original thread shows how the prices of cl/cs have doubled or more in under ten years (fiver then according to munchy)
2003 Camping Cheques were 8 pounds 50p and some sites did 30 for 15.Last time we used them a couple of years ago they were I think 16 pounds.Problem is supply and demand..many more campers are visiting southern Europe now..BUSBY.

How much are the landing & parking fee's for a DC4 these days?

Robert

I was not sure if it is a DC 4 or DC 6. Forward fuselage looks a bit long for a DC 4 but that could be the camera angle.

Now, I am a sensitive soul, I prefer paying on sites and believe there is a cost too somebody if you are away for several weeks, but I do not like the term FLT and that it should not be used on this forum as I would not want to be called a tosser and agree with some that you would not say to someones face but it's easy to do on keyboard

I don't have it in my heart to pay to stay in a campsite. The closest I have got is paying for an hour in a town car park to go shipping, but I can usually find a free spot. I've discovered that I can buy an annual permit for beach parking, and I'm very tempted to get that, especially as it only costs £80. It will be great for the summer. They ban overnight parking for camper vans or conversions. I have stayed overnight several times though, as I haven't really converted my van yet.

I might start a thread about parking fines and penalties. I had an interesting one a few days ago. I was in a lay-bye at 1:30 am, and a guy walked in front of me with a torch. I got out to see if he was the driver of the artic' parked behind me with as constantly running air con. He turned out to be a parking warden, and he had just put a penalty ticked on the truck. He'd been called out because of the noise. I asked him if I was OK for me to sleep there, and he said yes.

The moral is, you can get away with a lot if you are considerate, and you aren't a nuisance.

Aircon? Probably his fridge running for the trailer..He can't switch it off because temp in trailer is monitored to make sure we all get healthy food delivered to our shops.BUSBY.

Well it is a refrigeration unit. I tend to call it an aircon because it is supposed to keep the trailer at a constant temperature, but that's probably incorrect, as I don't think they have a heating element.

What can the driver do? BUSBY.

He can vary the thermostat. I've known other drivers adjust it in the past whilst the driver was asleep. :)

The other thing he can do is to refrain from parking i an area that doesn't allow parking between 8pm and 8am if you are over 5 tonnes. That was the offence that actually got him the ticket. Apparently 3 people had complained about him, so the council sent out a warden.

I live in the wilds of Scotland & in an area which really lends itself to wild camping, we even have the blessing of the forest rangers
Yes and where they do charge a small fee to park in the forest, we do, it's just a ticket machine on the road side on the way in.
We are less likely to use the bigger sites now because we like the size of the CL's......less people, but wild camping is why we changed from caravans.
Whilst I really don't care what anyone calls us and though we are pretty easy going I would like to see you calling me a tosser to my face....go on, it would be entertaining for others......:boxing::moon2:

If I did would it be ok to overnight on your drive xx
Hmm me thinks that was a bit of a dig, not nice.:Eeek:

BUT if you really wanted to park up for the night on our drive you would be welcome.
IF you can get your MH on it, carry on because that I would like to see, I might even sell tickets.:giggler:

In any case we do spend money in local businesses and that can only be a good thing.

Not much riles me but the term FLT gets my goat. :swear:

To those keyboard warriors who feel that its acceptable to call me a tosser, try showing up at my motorhome door & say it to my face, no takers? Thought not.
You'll need a bloody good orthopaedic surgeon. :whistle2::whistle2:

I live in the wilds of Scotland & in an area which really lends itself to wild camping, we even have the blessing of the forest rangers as we know how to behave & what is expected of us, so I have no qualms about wild camping.

Now on actual holidays, I prefer a really good CL or site, especially in in the depths of Englandshire, its the only way we feel relaxed when in highly populated areas.
It's not about money, its about the deep seated feeling of being in remote terrain which many motorhome folks enjoy.

Have a nice day everyone. :sun:

You have made some excellent points.

We have used a mixture of sites, paid aires/Stellplatz, aires where a donation is requested and always given and free parking places. We haven’t parked where it is obvious or likely that we are not wanted and we leave no evidence that we have stayed somewhere.

It was purely a bit of light hearted banter no offense intended to you ???

If you were closer I'd certainly show up at your door and tell you to calm down :D no one is calling you anything.

I agree, in fact it breaks rule 1...…

Calm is me middle name Jim. :snooze::snooze:

Being called a free loader is comical & if the cap fits (in this case it does lol) I'll happily wear it.
It's the T bit of FLT which makes me bristle, some forum members say all of this in total jest & that's the way any decent human being should take a bit of fun however the T bit is said by some with real venom. :drunk:

Lets face it, how many of us would wander into a pub & start calling people a tosser, I wonder how that would end? :drink:?☠?

Now this free loader is off to have a few prozak & a chill out lol. ???

No one has called you a tosser pal, (till now) and stop with the veiled threats of violence, and you mention keyboard warriors, funny as, I bet your sat there in cam cream. T

The term FLT was first coined here by weejocky and he referred to people who outstayed their welcome, in free places really taking the pee, stopping weeks on end abusing facilities and ruining it for everyone.

Some members who like to wildcamp have taken to calling themselves FLT's. But they are not really FLT's they are just wild campers and wild parkers.

Infamous now am I

No wonder he gots some stick he was complaining about a Motorhome parked in a carpark for 4 days not exactly taking the pee like some do for weeks on end.

There were there for about a week in the end. Proper tossers

Why do you feel the need to be offensive?

We don't stay on sites - that's our choice but many folk stay only on sites... their choice. I don't see them in a negative light and certainly wouldn't label them as you have done.

What a lot of hot air and bluster! Free loading tosser (FLT), I take as just words and don’t take anything personally, why would you?

because im not talking about you, im talking about tossers who make camp in busy city car parks for daysweks on end. Where the end result is a height barrier ruining it tfor those of us who would want to stay for a night. if you do that you are a tosser. Do you do that? No, so Im not offending you then.
