Hi I know this is after the horse has bolted. Do mirror guards work? Has anyone here had their mirror hit whilst the mirror guard was on and the did it save any cage to original wing mirror.
Thanks in advance.

Yes they work extremely well. On the previous van the offside mirror got hit and cracked the casing as well as breaking the glass. I replaced the glass, but put Mirrorguards over the cracked casing. The same one got hit again, with no further damage. When we bought the current van I put them on there, and again have been hit (always by white van man on our narrow country lanes!). The glass popped out but, hung on by the heater wires and was undamaged. Make sure you buy the proper Mirrorguard ones though and not the cheap (or in some cases just as expensive but poorer quality) copies.

Yes genuine Mirrorguard had massive offside hit with speeding Discovery slammed the mirror and arm back against the window.
Mirror absolutely fine but small crack in Mirrorguard bur still fine and doing its job. So paid for itself already!

Yes the genuine mirror guards do what they say on the tin.

NO - on our first van they failed dismally in a low speed collision with a French MH.
And the service from the company when we tried to replace the damaged guard was shocking - he said he’d sent it when he hadn’t, and after we cancelled the order (we were about to go away) he sent it anyway! Ended up recharging via the bank.

We ended up getting guards from VanComfort in Retford on our way down the A1, which seemed at least as good quality.

I appreciate this may be a minority view, but I would never buy from Mirror Guard.

Yes, they’re brilliant. Had my drivers side mirror hit very hard, twice now by ladies driving Landrover Discoveries, cornering over the white centre line and both times the impact was so hard, it popped the mirrors from the mounting and they dangled down on the heating element wiring. Not a scratch on the mirror guards, so worth every penny in my opinion.

Yes, original Mirrorguards are brilliant. Mine have been hit several times by White Van Men, resulting in only scuff marks instead of being destroyed.

Yes. Functionally tested mine only yesterday. Small van on my side of the road. Me 20mph, him 30+mph. Dislodged the lower mirror, but no damage. Third time the same side hit. Maybe there not always on my side of the road 🤔🤔

Beware the original Mirrorguard, made in the UK, has now been copied by numerous makers. Don't be fooled, IMO every one of them are seriously inferior to the original product. The cheapo and not so cheap copies are great for hiding damage already done to a mirror, but that's about it.

Had them on our first van and they saved the mirrors a few times.
Hit a scaffold pole pointing forward over a metre on my side the road, it was in a trailer being towed by a tractor by a fisherman, France of course. Another time I hit a metal gatepost going into a field.

As Jim says only buy the genuine Mirrorguards far superior to the copies.

The Milenco mirror protectors saved my passenger mirror in France.

I was doing 50mph and the passenger mirror hit the door mirror of a 4x4 doing a similar speed in the opposite direction. Despite a combined impact of 100mph, the only damage I had was a broken indicator bulb filament, a small crack in the protector (which I fixed) and a cracked indicator lens which was not covered by the protector. I got an E-marked replacement indicator lens off eBay quite cheaply.

The unprotected mirror on the 4x4 was wrecked.

Yes the Milenco ones on our Sunlight withstood a closing speed impact of 60mph on a narrow bridge at Age's Morte in France, with another Sunlight van of all thing's. As most others have found, the mirror popped out of it's click fitting, but no damage to anything else and was easily clicked back in. The arm was swung back against the passengers window by the impact. Whether the other van sustained any damage is unknown. I do carry a full replacement set of mirror glass as they are so light.
Mike.

I had Milenco guards at first, but they discoloured very quickly and didn’t fit that well. I changed them for mirrorgaurds, and they have done the job after hitting a toll booth trying to get close to get a ticket, and another white van man hitting me at speed in the Bay of Roses. Both times im sure would of damaged my mirror.
