Arctic circle baby

We're moseying around Scandinavia. Our journey was via Tallin into Helsinki. Up through Finland and then on to Nordkapp. Dropping down the Norwegian Sea coastline, and are now about to explore Lofoten Islands. Plan is to head to Trondheim and then east into Sweden, downwards to Denmark. So far in 5 weeks we've seen 3 other fellow Brits. Couldn't believe the temperatures being so hot in the Arctic Circle. 33°c at Rovaniemi. A bit cooler the last week at 7°c in Troms

Here's a few of our snaps from our journey. With the midnight sun we've not seen darkness for over 2 weeks now. Bodo later this week we get an hour of night!

Well 2.5 weeks and 2500 miles we have reached arctic circle in Norway. I don't know why more Brits are not coming here. Its full of German vans. Only seen 1other British van. The place is like Scotland on steroids, that have been banned l. It's an amazing place to see and great for vans/ mohos. Who you all not planning to come here. And it's just got a little cheaper as some of the ferries within Norway are now FREE. Get planning, you don't know what you are all missing. Even the sun is shining
Looks great. Definitely on our bucket list. I’ve heard the biting insects are awful in summer. How bad are they?

Had a couple of horse fly's. That's it. Apparently it can be bad, but so far nothing.

I was surprised the amount of ‘settled ‘

been there twice , on par with midges in Scotland

I have been going to Sweden on and off for the past 40+yrs. it is a fantastic place and I recommend it to anyone.

The last time I visited was in 2017, before Covid, and the biggest change I saw was to a non-cash society, everything thing was paid for by credit card (much to the annoyance of the local population).

I returned the cheapest way possible which was via the ferry from Ystad to Poland then via Berlin to Dunkirk.

Just remember for the first few daw days that, until fairly recently, their second language was Russian, (East Germany) not American!

This is was actually crossing the Arctic Circle

I am told that the place is not actually the most Northerly point, relayed to us passengers by the Captain as we cruised past this point several years back. It is a rather less significant geographic feature fairly close by. We visited at Midnight in August that year on our way back from Murmansk, in Russia, en route to Bergen via a number of ports. The sea fog kept rolling in and clearing for the best part of tow hours we were there. There is a wonderfull viewing cave in the headland accessed by a tunnel on foot a bit warmer than outdoors. And there is a decent campsite for the intrepid explorers to the region

Tea break and a penguin. This place just keeps on giving. Last night we got a knock on the door, thought oh no we are going to be moved on. But no it was a lady who we had been talking to earlier that afternoon, and she had brought us 6 eggs from " soft hens". People here are so nice.

There was whacking great snowdrift about 3 metres high on one end of the balcony when we were there.

You're absolutely right - but these days, even Nordkapp don't claim it to be the most northerly.
It's really just a tourist attraction & a photo opportunity.

If you want to get a taste of doing it in winter

We were up in the Atlantic highway recently albeit on motorbikes.
Did a tunnel that was 22 MILES long, even gas stop off point where you can take photos as have different coloured lights to keep you awake !!!

It’s the most Northerly point that you can get to by road. Ok a tourist Mecca but to get there is a great road trip that I was please to make

No need to go that far as I posted some time this year. But they are all too expensive for a short tour .

All looks amazing. We are currently in Sweden, via Northern Germany and Denmark. Popped over to Sandefjord and Larvik in Norway for a few days as saving Norway proper for another time. We have seen 1 other UK van since leaving Delft.
the Stromstad to Sandefjord ferry cost 32 Euro for 2 people and a campervan under 6m! Biggest duty free shop ever seen selling fresh food, alcohol etc at bargain prices. Not to mention the fantastic buffet restaurant which gave us a table with a view for the whole 2 1/2 hour crossing for £23 per adult

Ferry from Harwich to hook. Then a ferry from Germany to Norway has begun recently, may explain why so many German vans here.that would cut the time down by 4 days or so, to get here. I guess !
Also a ferry from the Netherlands now too, it's 20hrs or so & expensive, but cuts out lots of miles through Denmark, etc.

Gooday Mate!
That's not a 'Road Train' you have to have at least 2 trailors for a Road Train, that's just a Truck and Drag!
I drove a rig like that in Sweden on a Volvo visit and it was plenty long enough at 56 feet !!
