Anyone used to be a mod or rocker

I started with Excelsior 250 and went on to a Triumph 5TA and my local club was the 16/21 in Hemel Hempstead.

Mine was a James (I think 125cc - so long ago) & I used to go to the 59 club in Hackney London, all black leather & macho (although I normally dressed in 3 ply mohair twin vent narrow lapel suits AND green raised seam Cuban heel shoes- (not that that would have fitted in at the club!

A James I had forgotten about them, a mate had one a nice machine as I recall

Always a rocker .. I like to see what's throbbing between my legs!

Last club I belonged was the NDMCC .. North Downs MC Club, used to meet at the old Roebuck Inn, Harrietsham on the A20.
The Memsahib prefers to feel it.......on the rare occasions she mounts me, whoops,,,,, IT!

Cor ! Donkeys years since I’ve seen a pic of it - I remember the good times - and being soaked through & having frozen fingers during the winter rides, later on I changed to a Lambretta scooter 🛵 I bought when I was in the RAF in Cyprus- cost NEW was £160 !! (I really wanted a Harley D but they were (new) £460 . . . The same price as a new VW Beetl, I “graduated“ to a green 1960 Fiat 500 bought from someone who was returning back to the Uk for £35 - I WISH I still had it !

Sure it will be no surprise to find out both Maureen and myself were rockers ( and still are ! )
And yes, I was at Brighton, but not for the big one of 64.. I was there in 66 and 67 ( 67 really kicked off again )

Back in the day i was a pathetic attemp at being a mod , just an old tv175 lambretta , frequented the Caribou cafe at ryde , rockers up at Minghella's cafe /ice cream shop

I used to go to the 59 club
Were you there the night the Kent Hells Angels chapter turned up ( looking for trouble ? I have no idea truth be told, but Angels and Road Rats never did get on )
I was a Road Rat back then and we were at the Ace.. Got a call and about 30 bikes, most which were NOT Road Rats, shot back over to the 59 club to sort it out..
Lots of pushing and shoving but very very little actual fisticuffs :-)
Angels eventually left and all who had turned up were given tea and biscuits !

And me !
I had the dubious pleasure of being at Brighton at a mods & rockers 'friendly' meet up in the very early '60,s

Come on the tell the truth.

Was the so called punch up set up by a news paper bloke for a story.

That’s the story I saw on a tv program 🤔

Anybody remember ACE cafe on a Sunday morning?
ACE - round Hangar Lane - ACE, who could do it quickest
Me on BSA GoldStar Clubman, full Cafe Racer trim, drum brakes front and rear with a 4 inch wide rear tyre
Absolute madness
Wish I still had it.
Been there done that. 1968, Brand new Triumph Trophy and I loved it. Bill Shergold- The Vicar who headed up the 59 Club, organised a trip to Southend one weekend. There were about 1200 of us..
trouble was, I had to hide my Army haircut inside my helmet!

First new bike i bought was in June 1966, a BSA C15, Blue, HBA 106D. If it came up for sale i would buy it, nostalgia and all that poo.

Too young to be a mod but had a Lambretta scooter very early 70s, loved motown and Northern soul, had green parka and denim jacket, wrangler jeans and Ben Sherman shirts and v neck Fair Isle jumper. Thought I was a sort of mod but not skinhead. Skinheads and greasers would clash on Morecambe seafront on a regular basis.

I had many motorbikes as a young man, from an FS1E right up to a Suzuki GS1000, but for the life of me, I have never understood the Mods & Rockers mentality.

It's absurd to say "I'm a biker therefor I hate scooters & Mods" & vikky verky.

Seems to me that its a bunch of numb nuts following the pack like sheep.

The trend for bikers to look like ageing hippies wearing bandana's & sporting long grey goatee beards makes them all look the same & as a result, dull.
They are old now, up 5 times in the night to take a leak, on Statins for cholesterol, & rubbing Deep Heat into arthritic joints just isn't a good look, or smell.:devil::devil::devil:
It might surprise those who go out of the house looking like this, most of the population giggle at the sight.
I always think back to the Clint Eastwood movies, Any Which Way You Can & Every Which Way But Loose.
Que the tune.

I do admire the restorations of these old machines & fortunately the chasing each other up & down a beach are long gone.

The only fish who go with the flow are dead ones.

Has anyone else noticed that the Mods seem to be back in vogue. .

Bikers meeting up en masse always seem to have been around but now the scooter crowds are popping up everywhere with their zillion mirrors, etc..

I knew I’d be back ’en vogue’ ...eventually.😂

I‘ve always had an interest in the ‘ Mod ’ scene both style and music.....But at the same time drawn to motorcycles rather than scooters.

Guess thats just me... a bit mixed up, and a non conformist 😉

I can't say I remember an dustup but I do remember both the mods & rockers blocking in beachfront road and racing toy matchbox dinky cars

I am surprised Brighton sea front Marine Parade, has not been classified as an ecological disaster zone, all that oil leaking out of those bikes! Come on hand on heart they were rubbish and unreliable but all that was available , Rockers/greasers liked turning up covered in oil, I know, first day at Training school eventually rolled up on a Norton Dominator which had broken down three times on the way there, me and the brand new uniform covered in oil! Mods rolled up eventually on their scooters not so dishevelled except for the fly splattered parka and the esso tiger tails and wing mirror collection, I take it Mods were always on the lookout for what was going on behind them instead of in front! Rode bikes for next 50 plus years, Current one has twin radial front brakes, fully adjustable upside down forks, an aluminium trellis frame fully adjustable rear shock rear disc, belt drive and brilliant handling its a Yamaha T max maxi scooter, leave the burgervan in the shade , Nasher, just take one out for a test ride you will be astonished! And I too never got the them and us mentality, Satans Slaves used to drink in our local and were well behaved never any trouble, I just thought of two wheels as us, Not what you wore or rode

Agree with the T Max. I had one in Spain for awhile, great scoot.

they were rubbish and unreliable but all that was available
I could not agree more
As soon as rice burners became available and affordable I got one
Anyone who sings the praises of old brit iron is either too young to have HAD to put up with the stuff or has REALLY heavily tinted rose coloured glasses !

There's still a Hell's Angels chapter in the South East, the 'Vikings' (tasselled jackets, greasy jeans, bandanas, ear rings, beer guts), who turn up at gatherings looking very hard but there's rarely any trouble. One of my very obese pals has had to fit Western 'bars to his Triton as he can no longer reach the clip-ons.
The average age of my bike club is late 60's and we're known as the 'Hell's Anginas'.
