Anyone used to be a mod or rocker

I could not agree more
As soon as rice burners became available and affordable I got one
Anyone who sings the praises of old brit iron is either too young to have HAD to put up with the stuff or has REALLY heavily tinted rose coloured glasses !
Never had an oil leak on the Gold Star, but i was taught how to re-build a bike engine by my uncle, a true bike nut, Stripped and re-built every engine i ever had with him, and the only leaker i ever had was a Ducati.
Loved my old Brit bikes, but sadly do not have one now.
Was never allowed a Jap bike as a kid, due to Dad's and uncle's Far East POW experiences, but that's another story.

Once a mod always a mod.

Yamaha T max maxi scooter, leave the burgervan in the shade , Nasher, just take one out for a test ride you will be astonished!

Agree with the T Max. I had one in Spain for awhile, great scoot.

Guys, I'm pleased that you have found a two wheel option that works for you

But I need a proper, modern, sports motorbike in my life - IMV nothing on two wheels compares to riding one of these beauties:

I also have 2 classic race bikes and a Royal Enfield Continental GT535 - all of which are fun to ride - I have been riding motorbikes legally for over fifty years and nothing on two wheels comes even close to these latest and greatest 200+ bhp sweet handling monsters

If/when I get too old to ride one, I may consider getting a smaller, less powerful sportsbike - but I would not consider a sco...... scoo..... scoo...

For completeness, I should say, I have friends who ride Burgmans/Tmax's etc due to their inability to get their leg over a motorbike - I'm glad that they have found a way to prolong their two wheel obsession and whilst there will always be banter - it is just that & we all know biker's banter means you have to take the mickey out of everything 🙂

My son bought a Vespa as his first bike for commuting. I had to ride it 40 miles back to his house as he wasn't confident to ride it in heavy traffic from Portsmouth to Brighton. I felt really insecure with now't for my knees to grip.

I used to ride motor bikes many years ago. Never considered myself as a rocker or greaser. I didn't wear leather, used Belstaff gear.
I rode friend's scooters occasionally, didn't enjoy it, felt unsafe.
Coincidentally we went to the motor museum at Beaulieu yesterday and was really happy seeing some of the old makes again.

I couldn't agree more. My brand new 1967 Triumph Trophy literally fell to pieces around me while travelling between the army camp at Long Marston and London. A colleague had a little Yamaha YDS3 and he regularly commuted to Liverpool on it without a moment's trouble!
As soon as I saw the first Honda CB 450 I realised that British bikes were on their way out...

When I started riding (1964) I loved strokers. My mates at the time pestered me to get one of the leaky, vibrating, and not very quick 'proper' bikes. I started to take an interest in the twins until I learned that both pistons went up and down together. That put me off so completely I would never contemplate owning one. So I stuck mainly with two strokes + the odd 4T single thrown in. The only new bike I bought broke the mould - it was a Honda 750/4. Horrible thing and probably my worst decision ever.

I was affected by the mods'n'rockers thing only once: trying to find digs for one night in Ramsgate in '69. I was turned away from half a dozen "full" bed & breakfasts until I removed all my riding gear and hid the bike round the corner. The next one has plenty of room & made me welcome. Only then, once they could see I wasn't a 'rocker', did I tell them I'd arrived on a bike. The lady explained all the problems they'd had with mods'n'rockers.

There's still a Hell's Angels chapter in the South East, the 'Vikings'
Good blokes the Vikings.. Originally affiliated to the Angels but I think it must have been the early 80's they went independent and as far as I know have remained so.. being one of only a handful of patch clubs who run alone nowadays

Long ago I stopped being active in any club apart from the Gypsy MC in Germany ( good friends with Micky, the ex-president and they welcome me and Mo at meets and on ride outs

I would have been identified as a rocker on my domi and the jacket in the late 60's but never got involved with any clubs.

Anybody remember ACE cafe on a Sunday morning?
ACE - round Hangar Lane - ACE, who could do it quickest
Me on BSA GoldStar Clubman, full Cafe Racer trim, drum brakes front and rear with a 4 inch wide rear tyre
Absolute madness
Wish I still had it.
While mule skinner blues played on the juke box then up to the busy bee and try to dry out in front of the fire in the middle of the cafe it rained a lot then.

I was a South London scooter boy late 60s early 70s
I had a Lambretta TV 175 and spent most of the time causing trouble at football grounds.
Part skinhead, part dickhead.

First ride, Off road, 1940`s Matchless 350 rigid Back end Girder forks and still in WD green!. Been about 13 at the time. First Bike (Legally) 1950 350 B31 single, on which I took my test, day after my 17th birthday. Best ride?. Arguable?. But the AJS 7R, stinking of Castor and making one hell of a racket with the racing can still on, Is memorable. Norton 99, which engine was breathed on and well capable of in excess of the Magic "Ton". Twin carb`s too, courtesy of the Manufacturing excellence of the Tool Room At Hawkers who made me a manifold, polished and ported it and to which I fitted a Cam from an Ex Eric Oliver Engine. (cost me a full weeks money!). Then on to cars via an old Ford Thames van.

We had the nightly Thrash, up the Boothferry Road Hill out of Hull on the A63. (now the 1105) and back down. Unrestricted in those days too.

Many years later I rebuilt a BSA 500cc Shooting Star. whilst on board ship. Sold that for a BMW R100rs. That went a few years back. it had done 40 miles between MOTs`. Sad really but with everything else going. Not to be.

Happy daze eh?l

I hosted a Mods and Rockers evening earlier this year after it became clear to me that at least half of my mates were Mods at heart. Imagine my sense of disgust!

I got Quadrophenia on Amazon (better quality than the dvd) and played it on a big screen combined with a modicum of alcohol, what fun we had, noisy and argumentative, but real good fun.

Just a fabulous film capturing a very special time in U.K. history. Disposable income combined with ideals for young people the first time. Fantastic.

What you see through the window miles from anywhere when you haven’t got a gun 🤪😜🤣
