Anyone have any old Solar Panels? Help Needed.

I have just taken 4 small solars off my van. I am going over today and can get the physical dimensions. Not sure of the output but you can have whatever you need. If they are of use to you I will bring them down. Only managed to get one off with brackets though so you may need some angle ally.

I have two foldable solar panels with a built in regulator on the back, they're 160 or 200w? They'll probably need a bit of wiring but they worked well on our old Tracker. Got a wastehog too if it'll be useful.

Happy to drive them down from Harrogate.

Thanks Malcolm, but all sorted now on the solar (y)
I cannot offer bits and pieces because I’m in Croatia, I can offer some financial support. Is there any way I get money to you? I would prefer bank transfer as sending cash isn’t really an option.

Thanks Claire, but we already have enough to get this van sorted (y)

I've a bit of a problem.

I was at the local burger van on our Industrial Estate a month ago and I notice an old Peugeot camper by the side of the road. Thing is, it was there the week before, so I asked the guy in the burger van what the story was.

It turned out that a guy in his 70's was living in it, where it sat (on the road), after his wife kicked him out in January. The guy in the burger van was worried about him as he had no heat, fridge, water and limited power, so I said I'd say hello and see if I could help.

He popped over the next day and I fixed his water, his fridge and plus added a CO2 alarm. But his power and heat issues are still to solve.

I'd really like to help this guy get himself back on his feet and could do with some help.

The van just has an old 75A LB and no 12v sockets, let alone USB. All he powers is his phone and a small old portable DVD player that he watches all day long. He does this via a little USB hub he plugs into the cab dash, so of course his VB dies. I then have to pop up and jump his van.

I have a couple of reasonable LB's here from when a customer upgraded to Lithium a few weeks ago, plus I have a bunch of 12v sockets, ton of wire etc and I'm happy to install it all (for free of course, this guy has nothing). But I know this will just mean his LB's die every week instead of his VB.

What he needs is a descent amount of solar and a good controller, which I don't have and can't afford to buy for him (new business).

So I'm wondering is anyone has any of the following for what I think is a good cause - to help an old man out that's down on his luck.

1. Solar. A couple of old 100w panels would probably do the job.
2. MPPT. Anything capable of taking a few 100w panels.
3. An old heater maybe? I think his van is petrol, so something that works of gas would be ideal. Not a massive issue for now as it's getting warmer anyway.
4. An old 12v TV? Just so he can watch his stuff. Doesn't take much to keep this guy happy.
5. TV antenna?
6. Anything I'm missing?

I'll fit anything and supply wiring/switches/etc to any of the above.

If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it,
David
Hi David,
I have a solar charge controller with a USB socket Voltage 12v24v Automatic current 10A if that's any good. If so i can post to you please let me know. Well done you. Sometimes in life we could all do with a little help and support.

Jev88 - As your TV has a DVD that would be ideal. Would you mind posting it to me?

Hoovie - The DVD's would be really appreciated if you don't mind?

The gentleman has just popped over and I've told him that I asked for help on his behalf and what a great response there's been. I've told him everything on his van will be sorted so it works - and he'll have a proper TV. He started to get a little teary tbh and is incredibly appreciative.

I can understand this.
DVDs went away today to you. probably arrive by Friday/Saturday.

Hi David,
I've got a new brand new diesel heater which has a separate fuel tank. It has all the accessories, pipes, vents hose clipsř to run it. He could run it on red diesel if he has or can get local access to cut the running cost?
Free to you if you can arrange collection from Redditch?

You know I never even thought of using a diesel heater with a separate tank

Thanks so much for the offer Lemut

Can I get back to you once I've tried fixing his existing heater?

TVs seem to be sorted by the time I saw the thread but I have a couple of old Avtex in the loft which I can check if still wanted.

Thanks for your kind offer Russ (y)

All sorted thanks.

What an amazing post and such generosity. I'm late to read the post so appears you have most of what you need. If however you need anything else I am more than happy to help financially.

just wondering how it's gone with sorting out the gentlemans van, hopefully he's warm, happy, settled and watching his tv or dvd's..

.

Funnily enough I saw him earlier today.

Around 10 days ago, the gentlemen was given a room in a hostel. It isn't ideal as it's noisy all night, but it is warm and he has water and power. So better than before.

As the TV donated also works on 240v, I've passed this and all the DVD's over to him so he has something in his room.

The solar panel is here as are all the donated parts now and I'm having his van on Friday 29th for the weekend to kit it all out and repair other bits. This was the first date we can both do.

On the Monday he will collect and have a fully working van that is pretty good off grid. Hopefully having the hostel as a bolt hole and the (working) van to enjoy his fishing etc will greatly improve his quality of life (y)

Just a quick update on this - now all fitted (y)

I didn't video anything as the gentleman was uncomfortable with the idea, but did take a few images.

The solar panel going up:

And the MPPT fitted:

Not an easy van to work on as there's no room anywhere, but all done.

Thanks so much to everyone for the help and donations (y)
