We are heading to france next month for our first time abroad. Van is plated to 3850kg so do we suck it up and stick the angles mortes stickers on the van or do we wing it??
Same question re motorway tolls. As I understand it we can't get any of the toll tags as over 3500kg. We don't intend using motorways much so I assume we just pay as we go by card. What do all you experienced people think?

We are in France at present and are using Angle Mort stickers. We are surprised at how many vans, that must be over 3500kgs, don’t have them on. That includes French vans too.

We have an Emovis toll tag that we got for the car. It has worked perfectly on all occasions.

We are 3850kgs and about to upplate to 4000kgs.

It isn’t to help people see the big vehicle.
It’s to remind people (particularly cyclists) that they can’t be seen in the big vehicle’s blind spots.

(Whether the stickers actually help in that is open to debate …)
I don't need them as 3500kg but if I up my weight to 3800kg the van doesn't get any bigger. If a cyclist doesn't realise that getting that close that he can read the things is dangerous they shouldn't be on the road.

Also bear in mind that parts of the motorway from Calais towards Rouen are now autotoll so if you don’t have a tag you need to pre register a card
Money is taken automatically by ANpR

Hi,

I would put the stupid stickers on as the police do check occasionally.
I've a Carthgo Liner for Two 53L twin axle. We used a Bip and Go tag which worked 80% of the time on the three occasions we've been to France.

Your on the system if you have a Crit'Air sticker.
But you claimed there was an Angles Mort database.
Just considering that when I applied for the Crit’Air, the plated weight was 3500kg,but now in process of updating to 4100kg.

Emovis tag works well.

We have the magnetic ones for the front doors and put a sticker on the rear, which peeled off with no issues at all (it didn't damage the paint in the slightest) and the tiny bit of residue came off in 10 seconds using this, which I also use to get the tar spots off and it works brilliantly.

We are 3,850 and have a Bip & Go tag which works absolutely fine.

There’s a few that do tags for +3.5t, we use Tolltickets.
Second this, I got legal tags from tolltickets.com. Didnt work well on one section of motorway in France. Mostly got charged as though 3.5t

However, have just ordered BipnGo as I want a tag for Italy, and now tolltickets know my weight they won't issue one

I never said there was an Angles Mort database. I said you would be on the French system if you had a Crit'Air sticker.

I have the angle more stickers (suction type) in the side locker, used them once. We are not often in French towns we are always merely transiting via the toll free motorways. I hold my hands up and admit I wing it.
I think you might have trouble passing yourself off as 3500Kg. ;)

I carry a set in an envelope beside the UK stickers.

They will never be fitted to my vehicle unless I happen to run over a cyclist...then I'll stick them on . If he's still conscious I'll run over him again to make sure he can't clipe

Ridiculous looking things .

If a cyclist needs constantly reminded that big vehicles have blindspots they shouldn't be cycling.

Personal responsibility. The world is a dangerous place and shouldn't require this nanny state nonsense.

The world would survive with a few less lycra clad loonies in it.
Many of us on bicycles now run cameras.

I just don’t understand people who don’t have them, for one it’s the law and it’s also a good safety feature….Its a bit like idiots who still don’t wear seatbelts or still use their phones whilst driving…🤬🤬🤬
They should be compulsory on all Motorhomes in all countries.

Blimey. This started a hare running! Thanks for all your thoughts. So we're going to buy the angles morts things, one magnetic for the cab door and a stick on one at the back. As we are over 3m tall we're going for the tolltickets tag. Also swmbo is waiting for a hip replacement and has told me in no uncertain terms that she is not going to do the hokey kokey at every toll booth

It's not though, you can have 2 identical vans one plated at 3.5t and one at 3.85t. One would have a sticker the other not so does that make the 3.85t one safer? It should be done on length to make it meaningful if anything.

If that was aimed at me it wasn't the point, My van is plated at 3200kg so I don't need them, I just don't see how a sticker helps you see the huge thing it is stuck to!
Wasn’t “aimed” at anyone, was just giving my point of view.
I would never make a personal comment on a public forum.

Never understood the AM stickers, if you can see them, surely you can see the great big vehicle they are stuck on and appreciate the dangers, why does everything need warnings and instructions these days?
Far too nuanced a view. Look, it's big. It's probably Foreign. It must be dangerous. In all probability it's being driven by some lager- swilling Rosbif! It needs a big ugly sticker on it so we can all shake our heads and tut at it. Now everyone's happy.

I don't think the word Angles Morts will mean much in other European countries!!

Regarding cyclist can the more militant among you please have a care for those not wearing lycra! Whilst the likes of myself on my Ebike will be alive to blind spots children on bikes may not be.

P.S. My van came with a "Warning Left Hand Drive" sticker on the back. No law requires it and there are only limited situations where my LHD causes problems but I certainly do not intend to remove it.

Aye its that safe that only the French have them .

Its yet another invention to remove common sense and free thinking.

Children shouldn't be on roads in the first place.

Whats the purpose of a " warning left hand drive " sticker?
most of the world is lhd and don't need advised of a lhd vehicle.

In the UK you're just advertising the fact you're not confident driving a lhd vehicle and wish others to make allowances for you

No mention in the regs about displaying them in the glove box.

The French, as all the countries in Europe have access to your vehicle records and your name and address. Brexit did not stop that. Foolish to think otherwise.

What about the pocket behind drivers seat?

Glove box is for important stuff.
