We are heading to france next month for our first time abroad. Van is plated to 3850kg so do we suck it up and stick the angles mortes stickers on the van or do we wing it??
Same question re motorway tolls. As I understand it we can't get any of the toll tags as over 3500kg. We don't intend using motorways much so I assume we just pay as we go by card. What do all you experienced people think?

Bought mine from here. They do magnetic and cling type so you can remove them when not required. Fairly quick delivery as I had them print a custom sign showing the motorhome dimensions too.

My thoughts are what if your involved in an accident, your fault or not, do the police / insurance use the fact you havent met the legal requirements as something else against you.. For a few quid, personally i would put them on.
Your choice as i know many dont..

Though if magnetic, make sure where you're putting them is ferrous metal.

Ours is all aluminium!

(So annoying not to be able to find anywhere to stick a magnetic screw holder! First world problems! 😂👀)

We’re parked up next to a huge 8metre A class at the moment. He has a single Angle mortes on his bike rack cover. I felt like asking him why he bothered but he’s a bit of a plonker. On arrival he asked if I knew where he could fill up with water. I directed him to the Motor home service area. He didn’t want to go there as he only wanted a drop of water from a tap so he blocked the road whilst he filled from an ordinary tap near the pitches.

There’s a one way system at Highlands End. He’s one of the special people.

I don't see a problem with fitting them. They cost pennies.

How would we feel if foreigners came to the the UK and ignored our laws..?
I think one needs to understand the French psyche in all this.

They often make laws so they can then just ignore them. Quite unlike the British.

I'm torn on this one as well. It's not the cost it's the mess they will make when and "if" you can get them off. I hear there are film type ones that have no adhesive that just peel off but I wonder how good they are. I'm leaning towards winging it and not bothering.

I've seen a few stuck onto a piece of plastic with a sucker on each corner, easily removed once out of France.

Yes, I’ve just bought this version: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/18588765...pid=5339023013&customid=&toolid=10001&mkevt=1

The magnetic ones won’t stick on the front of my A-class, and I’m damned if I’m having my van permanently disfigured with ugly stick-on additions, but will wear these while passing through France. I’m yet to make my first journey with them, so am interested to see whether they're still stuck on as head into Spain …

I have fitted magnetic on the doors but it was over a graphic which caused moisture to become trapped and affected the colour of the graphic for months after, the rear is a stick on which is mounted to a piece of plastic with 6 suckers off Ebay to fix it as the rear is not magnetic...it works a treat.

Exactly!

So I have purchased the Angles Mortes idiotic things and stuck them to my very nice van probably ruining the paintwork forever, and will tour France with my head held high while drinking tea! :-)

Meanwhile I will tut at all the overloaded French vans without them. 🤣

I have the angle more stickers (suction type) in the side locker, used them once. We are not often in French towns we are always merely transiting via the toll free motorways. I hold my hands up and admit I wing it.

I saw them before but wondered how good they were having used suction pads for other stuff on the old van in the past and they always fall off. one on each corner though, should be good but I would still worry about them marking the van.

Never understood the AM stickers, if you can see them, surely you can see the great big vehicle they are stuck on and appreciate the dangers, why does everything need warnings and instructions these days?

I ve always borrowed some magnetic ones and the ones with the suctions pads.
The sticky on ones seem difficult to get off of other peoples vans in the middle of the night

But seriously, I ve never had them on.

I shouldn’t think this should be up for debate, it’s the law?
What’s the issue here?
Are people really that precious about a bit of glue on their vehicle?
It peels off for goodness sake, get over your selves!
If that was aimed at me it wasn't the point, My van is plated at 3200kg so I don't need them, I just don't see how a sticker helps you see the huge thing it is stuck to!

It isn’t to help people see the big vehicle.
It’s to remind people (particularly cyclists) that they can’t be seen in the big vehicle’s blind spots.

(Whether the stickers actually help in that is open to debate …)

I carry a set in an envelope beside the UK stickers.

They will never be fitted to my vehicle unless I happen to run over a cyclist...then I'll stick them on . If he's still conscious I'll run over him again to make sure he can't clipe

Ridiculous looking things .

If a cyclist needs constantly reminded that big vehicles have blindspots they shouldn't be cycling.

Personal responsibility. The world is a dangerous place and shouldn't require this nanny state nonsense.

The world would survive with a few less lycra clad loonies in it.

We dont really have a clue about toll roads as we dont tend to use them but each time we have taken a wrong turn the CC has got us out of there
