Alde 2Kw in cold weather not up to the job

This function is provided by some Hab controllers, eg the Sargent EC600 has a secectable AC Current Limiter (you choose the limit) which switches out the heating elements as you describe.
I agree but the Alde load master gives more flexibility in that it is only controlling and limiting the power directed at the Alde. It depends if your Motorhome is wired in such a way that it has essential and non essential distribution boards in relation to inverter supplies. Morelo do wire this way which makes it easier in that I can select the total load limit on the inverter controller. This limits the supply fed to the essential supplies and any surplus power required is fed from the synchronised inverter. So if I set the current limit at 10 amps and the essential supplies require 15 amps the inverter makes up the additional 5amps. However, given you don’t want to be feeding non essential supplies from batteries they are not contained within the inverter power supply so are not limited or deficit controlled, so the addition of the Alde current controller gives greater flexibility in relation to power limiting a non essential supply.
 
We find that the cold comes from the dash area so we had a curtain made the same as the carpet with insulation we’ve been down to -15 and keptwarm
We use a large fleecy blanket which is big enough to cover the whole area, tucks under the overcab mattress, keeps the cold out in the winter and also keeps the light out in the summer, its a bit of a faff if you've just rigged it up and then remember you need something in the cab! the curtains to the cab in our Burstner are next to useless!
 
2 kW is simply not enough power in cold weather. That is my personal experience and this thread seems to confirm it.
Well it’s fine in ours all we do is put the temp up to 24degs and then I sit in me underpants 😂😂

Always use dual fuel when on hook up in very cold times, if the site is on 16 Amps, then max Electric heater, no gas, after all you paid for it.
 
We have been away for 10 days 50/50 off grid / on site, we both have colds and need MH to be warm

We have been in north east and Scottish Borders daytime temp around freezing most days

On gas for first three nights we were fine, then on hook up, set to 2Kw as other things running (coffee maker) didn’t want to have to remember to reduce, barely holding 20C on constant and feels cold

So I turned gas back on as I understand it assists the electrics and all good again

We used an 11kg bottle in our first 7 nights (4 off grid) and filled up as we left so know we have plenty of gas to see us through

Tonight I used gas to get up to 22C then set back to 2Kw electric only , temp has dropped to 21C despite running constantly

Almost feel sorry for C&MC taking 2Kw 24/7 although we do set to 16C from 10-7

I am presuming we are doing everything correctly , pretty hard to get it wrong really
Ours works fabulous on 2kw even in -10
 
u need a diesel heater as u r ripping threw the gas .u r spending time off grid running round trying to get gas thats pricey .diesel allways easy to get .so would work out moor time off grid and not depending on sites so much...anyway try and stay warm and good luck
 
8.5M Motorhome in the Alps for 3 weeks, regular -18 temperatures, use a diesel heater to get up to temperature quickly and use Alde to maintain. In temperatures around 15 the van will heat up internally to 22 with just us being in it. Dethleffs !

We now know our electric heating has failed completely so suspect it was on its way out last November, booked into Alde first week in April for repair 👍
Hi, I just found your post, is yours the Truma Alde hybrid or all Alde? I have the former and Truma just say it's obsolete and are not interested in repairing it. Did Alde manage to fix yours and if you don’t mind sharing at what cost?

Ours is wholly Alde, turned out it was the control board which thankfully is the much cheaper repair option compared to elements

Cost about £360 from memory, I did have my own thread running will check on there 👍

Sounds like it “works” exactly the same as ours.
